I didn't read the whole post so sorry if this was already mentioned but,
the house doesn't looked "it snowed"-ish enough. Know what I'm saying? There isn't any sign of snow or frost.

The working theory that I just thought up is that the surface of the house was recently scraped clean by something. Or it's made of some super slippery material.

Ya know what? Fine! I'll put snow on the roof. It would probably look cooler, anyway.

Hey if you did decide to make a pipe version of the chimney then you could have the level that the chimney went to be inside the house. I think that would be really cool!

Alrighty then, here we go.

You can choose between a snow covered roof or regular roof, both will be included with the set.

This set looks great. Your awesome at making 2-d graphics look 3-d!! Just a few things:

1. At the point where each roof curve meets (on the left) , its missing a pixel. You should probably include that, if you have space. Hopefully you know what I mean (just compare the right slope to the left and you will see).

2. Maby a snow covered tree would be good?

3. Possibly a snow covered BG (treetops and maby limbs)?

4. Snow covered top of door and window?

So including any of these, if you have space would, IMO, be a great addition to an already great looking set. Good job.

The snow covered tree idea wasn't half bad, so I ran with it. There aren't any tiles at all left in the set for any added objects, so you'll have to work with what you've seen. I also made the night palette.

Keikonium: There isn't a pixel missing there, it just looks like it because of the filter I'm using.

That looks awsome! The tree turned out great! Just one thing about the palette of the BG: The tree stumps are pinkish red!! Im sure just an error (I hope) but they should be dark brown.

BTW, are you going to be submitting this to the workshop when its completed?

Yeah, it'll be submitted to the workshop. Those treetrunks in the background have always been giving me a headache. I'll have their palette fixed before I submit.

It looks a whole lot better with the snow on the roof. Possibly could make a whole world with this tileset. Start off on the base of a mountain, climb your way up (which is when the snow on the house could be useful) and reach the top which a castle rests with... holiday Renzors?

...ok, sounds weird, but the tileset is very good.

The night palette rocks. Better than a simple background color change.

Very nice. The only thing missing is a custom palette animation that makes the tree's lamps change color and such.

That seems unnecessary. What would be cool, though, is if some of the lights had animation that makes them flicker on and off due to improper wiring.

Everything in the night time palette has a blue tinge. It makes the night time effect more convincing than just making all the colors darker. And the lights on the tree already cycle. Compare all the different shots and you'll see.

I have an even better idea (really the same basic thing) that would also be easier to do. (You might be able to do it with palette animation, even.) Make the lights blink on and off in sequence like you often see done in decorations!

And I agree about the blue. Just looking darker would either look like it was cloudy or everything would just look bad.

I also like the idea of going inside the chimney and having the actual level take place inside the house. The problem being that the house is really small. Solution? Mario somehow gets shrunk down to the size he looks! (As in, 1/16 inch per pixel. ) A giant house would make an awesome level.

[edit] Hey, I didn't even notice the changing lights. Cool!

I have been considering making the snow on the ground less bulbous and more in line with how the snow on the roof looks. Any thoughts? I'll post a screenshot when I get home if you're unsure of how it will look.

I personally like the snow the way it is

And to go along with hyperhackers post:

JJ, aren't you including a giant present and stuff like that in the set? It would be awesome to make an indoor christmas theme using huge presents a giant tree etc etc.

Sounds good JJ. Yeah, changing the layout of the snow would be good, but you don't have to get rid of those lumps entirely. Would be cool to have them periodically.

Things changed in the picture: The snow is now less like round globs stuck together and more like a cohesive flow of snow. The blue of the snow in the night time palette has been toned down a little. And the tree trunks in the background are now longer pinkish. The set is nearing completion. I want all the kinks worked out before I make the test hack.
