Whoa! He's on again! I 'reverted' back to first party AIM with DeadAIM... Trillian never kept me on AIM for more than five minutes, and didn't support file transfers at all. I got rid of it... Then I used Gaim for quite a while. I supported some AIM 5.5 features when that was still in beta. And file transfers were better... at least it works for incoming files (but not for outgoing). Then somebody showed me a download and crack of DeadAIM 4.5... and I like it! It is first party AIM, after all. I know I shouldn't crack it, but why should I pay, anyway? |

Originally posted by Colleen That's nothing when you have Linux. Do that with Win 98/95, and then i'm amazed. I have actually been succeful having the computer on for severeal days, but some programs always acts up wierd in the end. (like I stated earlier... mIRC ) I have tested GAIM, works very nicely as an AIM clone. I did test it under Knoppix. (I hadn't been bothering with Linux since FIPS trashed my boot partition on the other computer... ) |

Hibernate does count in the uptime, but it's not real uptime since the computer is turned off I mean, if you put the computer on hibernate, leave it like that for a whole year, then turn it back on, you can't really call it a 1 year uptime My record uptime is just a little over a month, and I usually get to a few weeks ... |

I hadn't tested the hibernating feature, first time I saw it was on a laptop. Dunno if it works with my newer computer, but I should test it someday... I have turned off sleep mode mainly becuse it tends to shut off while i'm downloading a few things. And I like leaving my IRC client overnight. In early versions of Win98 it would crash after 28 days, Microsoft fixed it later thought. (I rembember when I patched my computer back then, I was like 12-13 years old ) I think I can break that 120 day record, I just turn on my 486. And don't use it... while it's being in DOS. |

As Acmlm said the first (what Iggy does) is cheating, so is the second. A PC MUST be used at least 50% of its uptime and physically ON for 100% of it for the uptime to truly count. |

You can get years of uptime with use with either plain DOS or Linux.

According to most Catholics during the Renaissance the final ring of Hell was a frozen lake with the worse sinners of all frozen beneath it (Traitors of Benefactors). Just an interesting tidbit, makes me laugh when someone says,
