Greetings, all. I, as should be somewhat plainly displayed at left, am Blue Antoid, whom you may or may not know from the PK Hack forum over at starmen.net. I come here on behalf of our little community as a whole; For those of you who aren't aware, we specialize in the SNES game EarthBound, and for most purposes, we've hit bedrock in terms of digging up hackable data in the game. However, as is often the case, we've saved the fun stuff for last.

Of course, I speak to you of the wonders of the game's music. Oh, sure, we can mix and match tracks to be played in battles, in different areas and scenes, but the data itself remains a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped in a vest. And of course, the few people we had around with both the knowlege and the drive to even attempt cracking the music compression left us some time ago... Which leaves us in a somewhat difficult position, to say the least.

Now, occasionally, some of us have lurked our way over here in the past, and I've got to say, we've been impressed with a lot of what we've seen. It's obvious that talent exists here in scads... So, what it really boils down to is we're looking for someone to help us in cracking EarthBound's music, both the compression and the formatting. I hate to leave it at that; as a forum mod myself, I know how annoying topics like this can be ("Oh plz help meh I don knwo wha I's doin lololololo1~" ), not to mention ones that advertise fairly heavily. The last thing I want to do is lame up somebody else's board... But simply put, without securing outside talent, we're pretty much at a loss. I totally understand if there's no interest (though I can't imagine it'd keep you all up at night... ); however, any assistance whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. If nothing else, thanks for slogging through this giant rambling post as far as you have.

If someone happens to be interested, however, please feel free to join us in our IRC channel, #pkhax, on DynastyNet, or just reply here, whichever's easier for you...

*Kawa-oneechan bows for Blue Antoid.

Might I suggest sticking around a bit until Bouche arrives? He got a knack for music formats

Ah, old memories from my days in starmen.net forum. I was there in the PK hack forum as gamefreak19 for one year ago.

Yeah, he is the master at music hacking, thought he did say that SNES music hacking is tricky. And it's not sure if he have the time/intrest in doing it.

It's sad that there is so few music hackers...

Yeah, there should be more people like Bouche, that would seriously help the music hacking industry, because, come on, how many people actually know how to edit SPCs in a hex editor, how to find them, how to switch them around et cetera? Not many if I recall correctly.

I can't seem to find the page with the millions of docs of offsets and findings on Starmen about Earthbound. Is it still there Blue Antoid? Or am I remembering something from another site...

From what I remember of them, the music was just about the only thing I didn't see listed in detail.
I hope someone can help you, music hacking seems to be the bane of many a rom hacker.

Welcome to Acmlm's Board!

Anyway, I've also had some questions about Earthbound's music (like, in the battle songs, are those 'glitchy' parts really supposed to be there? )

I used to love Earthbound, and then I beat it, and then I had nothing to do.

I'm interested in editing Earthbound's music too. It seems like it'd be really fun!

Anyway, I suggest hanging around until Bouche sees this thread and replies. He hacked Nintendo's spc format, so Earthbound may be a nice challange for him.
