Yes! It's true! Final Fantasy encourages alcoholism. Is it any coincidence that Final Fantasy has lots of fans in Wisconsin? Let's review the points.

1) To gain MP (that which allows characters to cast magical spells), the characters use Ether, as in ether ALCOHOL! In game images of the item show it as coming in a vessel for drinking out of. Sure, you don't SEE them drinking it, but it doesn't take much of a leap. Why, it's barely a step.

Now, what about this encourages binge drinking? Why clearly, if you drink, you gain MP. If you can't cast the spell of your choice it must be due to lack of MP, meaning that the solution is to drink more and more and more until you CAN summon magical beasts to do your bidding, throw fireballs, bring forth ice from the earth and cause others to spin around and attack themselves. While research has shown that this agrees with the real world, it almost always requires excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages.

2) There has been a transition in notation from the earlier Final Fantasy games, using GP to newer Final Fantasy games and rereleases of older Final Fantasy games, using Gil. Now, as we all know, gill is a liquid volume measure. Specifically, there are four gill to the pint. But a pint of what?

Well, it certainly isn't liquid gold (well, maybe with inflation, but...
no). Clearly, due to the usefulness of magic, the transition is due to a shift to an alcohol-based economy.

3) Is the alcohol-based economy really right? Well, there are several supporting details. For one, the people in town nearly always say the same thing and even chracters that have multiple lines don't have very many.

This no doubt comes from brain damage from a lifetime of excessive drinking, yet they are presented as respectable members of a community. Characters wander around seemingly aimlessly, as though they cannot remember what they were going somewhere for, no doubt due to the tremendous hangover they are experiencing, but this pain is not shown so as to advance the hidden Final Fantasy agenda of the glorification of binge drinking.

This is obvious when it is considered that a constant in the series is that the main characters (who after all, ought to be cool) are continually getting more gill, and what do you suppose they'll do with all of that after they've saved the world? They'll drink booze.

4) Still more blatent is when drinking is shown. In Final Fantasy VI, for example, there is drinking on the train, but this does not impair combat readiness. Indeed, boozing up restores HP and MP.

So there you have it. Final Fantasy glorifies binge drinking and anybody who plays Final Fantasy games will become a drunkard and kill people in driving accidents.

But at least they'll get the EXP before going to prison.

I gotta say thats ridiculous....I love FF and ive never even noticed it promotes binge drinking...and im sure not many people actually think of that either....
