So I'm looking for some new anime to watch. I'm getting tired of fighting anime. The only really non fighting anime I've seen so far that isn't mecha is Fruits Basket, and I thought that was excellent.

I'm looking for a good love story, basically. I don't mind mecha, either. I like mecha. But preferably, I'd like to see a decent love story that doesn't really involve fighting or anything like that. I mean, understandably some of them will have a lot of fighting alongside the story, like Full Metal Panic, but that's alright.

Actually, I think I'll use FMP for the basis of my search. It's a good love story, and it doesn't really bog itself down with repetitive action or anything like that. Any suggestions along those lines? I've heard Saikano is like that, and that it's really really depressing, too. Other than that, not much else.

Fruits Basket you've already mentioned, but it's one of my favorites.

Kareshi Kanojo No Jiyou is a romance anime, and it is very very good. It ends a little strangely, but it is a very enjoyable anime (IMHO). It's by Gainax, and by the guy who did Evangelion, but as long as you expect Anno weirdness you'll love it.

Any Studio Ghibli anime, although romance isn't stressed in there, there is a bit in some (Princess Mononoke, for example).

While not romance, Azumanga Daioh is good, but a little quirky and silly. The only romance I've seen in it I'm not sure... if it's romantic love, or infatuation... but it's of the yuri variety....

Kaorin <3 Sakaki-san. The only extreme taken was the infatuation level or just a really really deep respect for it.

But heck, if you haven't seen Azumanga Daioh, I'd get that. Only a season long, but it's well worth it, IMO. I couldn't vouch for the romance ones. The only thing close I get out of that is the comedic attempt type ones that you'd see from Rumiko Takahashi and Inuyasha or Ranma

Well, Love Hina is a pretty good one, IMO. But then again, there's some violence (beating the crap out of the main guy), but all in all, it's a pretty good anime. I think, anyways.

Nah, nah, now you're getting into yuri, which isn't really what I'm looking for, and fanservice, which is pretty much the opposite of what I'm going for. I looked into Azumanga Daioh, have a few episodes of it. I think it's great, and really quirky, like you said, Tarale. Trouble is I need to find more than about 6 episodes of it.

I've sworn I'll never see Love Hina. As for Ranma 1/2, I've read the first manga volume of it, and I like it a lot, but aren't there almost as many episodes of Ranma 1/2 as there are of Dragon Ball Z or something? I don't really want something repetitive.

And what's Rumiko Takahashi?

EDIT: Heh, I just looked this post over a second time, and damn, I'm picky...

I'd highly recommend ... Rahxephon, if you haven't seen it.

Dubbed or not, it doesn't really matter. The dub is nicely done. To this day Rah stands as probably, overall my most favorite anime.

In short Ayato Kamina was growing up in his small little bubble world of Neo Japan, in belief that only 17 million people survived from this major attack on Earth, and the rest of the world was destroyed basically. It turns out he is the intrumentalist to the mech Rahxephon, that will destroy the villians of Neo Japan. He then finds himself, in regular Tokyo, when he meets a very familar face, but can't grasp at who this person may be. She finally convinces him that he had been living a lie, and that there are actually 44 billion people alive in the world, and that he must awaken the Rahxephon.

That's a very crappy synapsis of the first DVD basically.

It revolves around a deep love story, and the anime is very musically played and involved. (orchestra) There is a good amount of action, but not always. And usually the action is actually dramatic, and not just repetitve and worthless.

If you like plot twists that'll have you viewing the anime over more than once, with a good dose of mech action, but with something deeper than that, then Rahxephon is a nice choice. It truly is incredible, but you have to look deep to see the love connection.

But if you want a quick and good non-action love story, go for Oh! My Goddess. Made me tear.

I really don't like Love Hina myself. , instead go for Ayiori Aoshi? (horrible spelling). A good high school love story with a lot of chibby goofy junk. (quirky, but serious at most)

All in all Rahxephon is a 10 out of 10 anime. Regardless if you're interested in something specific right now, I'd recommend you watch it sometime ... and no it's not a copy off of Eva, I'd favor it over Eva anyday.

I actually did like Love Hina, but you have to not take a lot of it seriously. Personally, I tended to dislike Ai Yori Aoshi, except for the first five episodes, which are stunningly gorgeous -- then I found the humor/fanservice to be more low brow than Love Hina from there on.

Love Hina is kinda cute. I ignored most the fan service, and instead focused on the story, which was kinda sweet.

Course, I found it harder to ignore the fanservice in Ai Yori Aoshi -- I think I stopped liking it when the blonde woman started feeling up all the other characters' breasts.

Read the Love Hina manga, it does better work on portraying a love story than the anime.

And yes, the fan service in Love Hina bogs it down. But it has one of those adorable stories that is aimed perfectly at the mid-teens to early-twenties category.

Yeah, the Love Hina manga is very good.

Oh, speaking of manga -- the Fruits Basket manga is excellent. Starts off the same as the anime series, but then there are BIG changes, and things are MUCH darker... very very much worth reading
