I am starting on a new theme, and that is custom design and mushrooms. I have a few levels done, but am having trouble with some layer 1 and 2 scrolling. Here are the shots:



The boat is on layer 2 and the rest of the level is on layer 1. I need the boat to scroll across the top of the water like its floating. What options do I need to set up?



I am having the same problem with the lifts, but I want them to scroll up and down the ropes. Hopefully this doesn't involve ASM.

So if anyone could help me out with these two problems, that would be great. Thanks.

Also, is it possible to make an ASM hack that will make all colours fade to black when you pass the goal tape?

If you want the lifts to move up and down together using the layer 2 scroll that they use in the underground level in Donut Land should do the trick. If you need them to move at different rates I don't think that can be done without an ASM hack. I'll probably add that to my list of things to code though.

For the fade to black at the end of the level, do you really want all the colors to fade to black, like so you can't see the status bar or the points you're getting at the end, or just the colors in the objects and such?

The reason some objects don't fade to black when you pass the goal tape is that they have animated colors in them. I think if you temporarily paused the animated frames before the goal tape did its fade it would fade them out as well.

I wasn't thinking at that time. I want EVERYTHING except the status bar palette and mario (yoshi) to fade out. And I dont think its because of animated colours, I heard that the last 8 colours in each palette row were never used (or not used after the goal tape) so they weren't programmed to fade out.

That's exactly right. I always make sure to restrict at least a couple of objects to the first 8 palette colors so the end of the level doesn't look like crap.

With the exception of a few backgrounds, everything I use is only 8 colors so it's never been a problem

This would be a pretty useful hack(the fading of all colors)... as I use quite a few SMAS rips. (No, I'm not switching to other game rips YET.) These levels look like utter SHIT in some cases.

Keikonium, you've REALLY improved since the first SSW demo. These GFX are amazing
