That's pretty money, but it goes a little too fast. Edit: Since I can't double post: Marlins / Dodgers exchange players Mets acquire 2 pitchers Giambi on DL (edited by Toxic on 07-31-04 10:31 AM) |

That mushroom cloud you just saw was my head exploding. Twins get: minor-leaguers. Expos get: SS Alex Gonzalez Red Sox get: SS Orlando Cabrera, 1B Doug Mientkiewicz Cubs get: SS Nomar Garciaparra Also, Yankees send Jose Contreras to the White Sox for Esteban Loaiza. (Free unsolicited advice for White Sox fans: Don't start Contreras against the Red Sox.) In other news, Steve Finley is going to the Dodgers (haven't seen who they're giving up), Randy Johnson isn't going anywhere, the Rockies released the pride of Quinnipiac University (uhm, Turk Wendell), and somehow, Scott Erickson got traded to the Rangers (though he'd been released already, knew he was DFA'd). Oh, and Abraham Nunez got traded, but I don't know where to. I love July 31. |

In our defense, we also got two prospects including one of Chicago's best. We kinda got raped in the deal (GONZALEZ? Come on...) but not as bad as... well... You know why that mushroom cloud went off. |

Well, it's not as much of a disaster, for we have DAVE ROBERTS! Really, though, there's not much in the way of pitching available (like we'd EVER trade with Pittsburgh again, and RJ's turned into Superdouche) so what're we going to do? Cabrera and Dougie M WILL improve the defense, which'll make Lowe better, and he's been better too. I think it'll pan out, but not the way anyone thought. |

Cabrera hasn't exactly been Mr. Reliable for us this year... then again, thanks to the crazy logistics of a 4-way deal, we got a fair amount for him considering he's going to be a FA. ...Although I still stand by my thought that Cabrera > Gonzalez. |

The Sox got rid of Nomar, who to me, didn't really want to be there anymore... (How can you blame him, really?) No, the Twins are the losers in this deal, getting only a minor league pitcher. This kid better be good, that's all I can say. |

I'm looking at Minnesota's deal as making room for Morneau. He's destroyed AAA pitching all season, gets called up, still hitting... It was a matter of time for him and he needed to get AB's. Although just one pitching prospect seems like too little for him. He's certainly a viable player (why do you think we wanted him?).

Originally posted by drjayphd You got a point there, and I do suppose that the Twins have been playing way too many this year. Too many to list, though I could get 8 or 9. Morneau has been producing pretty well too. Guess I shouldn't gripe... Bring on October! |

Um, can someone explain to me wtf was Theo thinking? No offense to Doug here, but we have an MVP type first basemen in David Ortiz. Where are we going to stick him? Is Ortiz just going to DH now, or what? |

That would seem to be the way they're leaning, yeah. Apparently all the guys who are there will fit in somehow...how is the question. |

I love the fact they're making room for Morneau... but way to yank him off our OLYMPIC TEAM, Minnesota.

I'm ecstatic that the Cubs got Nomar. And, as a bonus, we don't have to suffer through two more months of A-Gonz! Beltran wasn't exactly a star with Chicago, but I think Harris has the potential to be good. Still, losing those two is a lot better than losing Clement! |

Yeah, but the problem for the Cubs is what to do after this year, since Nomar's gonna be a free agent and all... You think he'll sign a deal before the season's out? |

I think Hendry will come up with the money, and that Nomar will be so excited about playing in Chicago that he won't make an exorbitant demand. The talk was that the Cubs wouldn't even have the money to keep Clement after 2004. Hopefully some playoff money can roll in this year as well. |

Any Cubs fan knows that the Cubs win when they get home runs. Nomar brings RBI's into the equation, therefore they win more with Nomar. Realisitically, I can see Nomar re-signing after this year. Hope he does. Let's review this situation in October if the Cubs don't make the playoffs. Cubs at the All Star break were 10 games out of 1st place. Cubs at the end of the season..........? Meanwhile, my other team continues to run away with the AL Central... |

Um, not to say anything, but RBI's is just a product of the lineup. Anyone with a bat in the right lineup can have a 100 RBI year |

But the Cubs have over-focused on hitting home runs, though it's not as bad as it was years ago. When the Cubs won four pennants and two world series in five years, their team was all about pitching and speed.

i wonder why they didn't go back to that formula...its been almost 100 years since their last world series? anyways, my beloved giants aren't going anywhere because pitching (which was their core) has been failing as of late |

The giants didn't have a core, other than Bonds. There was Schmidt, but then who? |
