This thread may have a weird topic, but...

1168 users. 19 countries. One board (and one main language). I'm pretty sure not many of you think about this in deep terms, and you may think I'm stupid now but... Imagine this board: Everytime you post a message, you're in front of a computer. After five minutes or so, an answer has been posted by another user. But... Do you sometimes think about that many of your boardmates live on the other side of the earth? I live in Norway, and with a couple of hours with a car ride, I could get to members from Sweden or other parts in Norway... But, you in America or wherever it should be are thousands of miles away... Before the plane was invented, you had to stay on a ship in over a month to cross the Atlantic Ocean. With today's technology, we can talk to each other just in one or two seconds! Just click on some buttons and... Yeah, there it is! If you think hard, it's a little bit strange, isn't it?

I made this (not the map itself) to show you all the parts of the world where Acmlm has active users...

The countries I know are:

- Canada
- United States

- Brazil
- Chile

- U.K.
- Ireland
- Norway
- Sweden
- Finland
- Denmark
- Germany
- Switzerland
- France
- Spain
- The Netherlands

- Japan
- South Korea

- Australia
- New Zealand
....

So, what do you think?

that's pretty cool.... kinda shows how only certain parts of the world are really online.... but, still really cool to see where people are from.....

although, there are huge gaps in places where there probably should be some people

Heh, this is funny.

We don't have members in some of the most wired countries in the world. I think that our board is an inaccurate cross-section of the internet. Maybe 5 years ago it was accurate, but people have changed the internet's demographic.

Oh, and I've thought of the vast distances, and it is staggering.

Well it looks to me like the developed countries of the world. We don't have any of those award winning communist states. Russia still counts boys...

Yes some other places may be wired but wired doesn't necessarily equate to having lesiure time to find a place like this and chat at it. China has a large number of web resources but I doubt you'll ever find one of them posting here.

For me it also looks like the developed world. And yes, the board, or more likely: the world's most developed areas look inaccurate on the map. The developed world are America and Western Europe, and Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and some other countries I just couldn't remember...

If people come here for gaming (emulation) reasons: I don't believe they have consoles in Africa or the rest of the world. At least not in Eastern Europe before 1990... I think this explains that there are no member from other parts of the world... Maybe Singapore or South Africa should have members here...

Dcahrakos: You're right, there aren't people from Alaska and North Canada here (I think). But I marked the whole countries, just in case someone come from these areas. But I don't even KNOW how I could mark Greenland. I'm really stupid... But anyway, if I only marked the spots or areas where people are, Brazil and Chile would almost be gone, since there are only two members or so from these countries... That would look more right, but I don't know where they are from...

Well, but then it's maybe the countries where the emulation scene is evloved?

Still... I would expect korea being green. Hell, wasn't there some Korean on this board?

I think the three most active countries are UK Canada and Sweden. Not so sure about Sweden but I don't have access to any Acmlm board stats. If not Sweden it's England... :/

Yes, that's what I mean, emulation countries, or gaming countries, which is developed countries

There is a Korean member on the board: Plout ( http://amber.stormbirds.org/board/profile.php?id=972 ). South Korea is... uh... green

Compared to the inhabitants, I think Canada is highest... However, most of the people seem to be from the United States... But they are much more people there...

For some reason, Belgium and the Netherlands are merged into one country on your map.
Both Coby and I are from Belgium, so you can change it into 20 countries

Off the top of my head...

- Mexico and Argentina have representatives on the board.
- If we wanted to be REALLY picky in Great Britain, I think only England, Scotland and Wales would be colored in. Don't think we have any Irish.
- Would Reini still count? If so, shade in Malaysia.

Ah, kinda makes me proud that Australia is getting noticed.
Sure, most people think we're annoying, but that''s just becase of the damn media. Look at that freak'n Croc Hunter. He's an embarrasment to our country. Typical stereo-type. Our accent isn't half that bad.

But anyway, Kool!

Oh, by the way. Australia isn't really crowded... Our entire population is around 20 million I think.

If it's no trouble, could everyone post their country's population?

That's an interesting demographic, but I think it's more representative of the English (Western Culture) Speaking Internet rather than the internet as a whole, and yes Colleen it would be interesting to see component states representation, especially in the US and UK. Do we actually have any Irish?

I know for sure we have Irish here, I don't remember who, and I can't remember whether it's Eire or Ulster, but we do have Irish people.

And as for Greenland being, *cough*, green (), it's a part of Denmark, and we have Danes, so coloring it should be ok.

I'm fairly sure the reason you don't find any Chinese here is because of the language.
