And apparently, Apple probably thought it would look nice with an waste basket on the desktop than a big ugly trash cans. Trash cans are seldom beuties.

Sure, it makes sense if you think about what you're technically doing... But to a normal person it just looks like you're throwing a disk in the trash. Which is especially bad given that that's also how you delete a file.

Well, but honestly. Unmounting an using disc is better than the Macintosh equilant of rm -rf / or del /F /S /Q (format C: is the most overated command ever, it only work if you boot dos from a boot disc. while del /F /S /Q is alot more dangerous even in windows... )

Neither have I...maybe part of the reason why we haven't heard it is because it should be spelled "waste receptacle".

Well, I figure it's only still there because it's just how you do it on a Mac. And as soon as you start dragging a CD on OS X, the Trash will change into an Eject symbol. Very helpful, but yes, worth nothing if you don't know that you should drag it. Although it's still in the Finder sidebar and in the menus.

But when you pull whatever it is you want ejected towards the trash can, the symbol changes to an eject-symbol, so you're not throwing it in the trash anymore...

Not with MacOS 7 like on my old Macintosh, where I trashed floppy disks (had no CD drive ) without any hint that it was going to eject them ... but yeah, there were at least 2 other ways to do it (keyboard shortcut, menu), and one of them even left the floppy on the desktop (trash to remove, or open and be asked to insert the floppy)

The trash on my computer eats the files I give it, and burps when I empty it

But if you think about that his theory, it couldn't work. How the heck would it go to a big computer, if some people don't have an internet connection?
