Ive seen in some cases that people just edit thier posts to change a few typos. Thus creating more text to change a few letters. So can there be a little checkbox in editpost.php to change the edit thing to on or off. Example. When it's on. When you edit a post. Nothing comes up at the bottom. When Silent Edit is off. It puts in the user and time of the edit at the bottom. Good or bad idea?

Hmmm, interesting, but I like that it does the edit thing.

That way, I also see if somebody else edits my post, and I really do like to know when that happens, and hopefully why...

Silent edit for the user who's post it is only. That's what i'd go with.

In phpBBs, there is silent editing available for a certain time after submission (and also only as long you still have the last reply in that thread) - in one I'm a mod and I noticed there is NO entry when a staff member edits something (for the most of the time - like when there are ROM links etc.)
But I _always_ put my "Edited by Surli" into that post in italics - honesty ist self-explanatory since it might be abused.
If here silent editing is enabled for everyone, for example a staff member in Board Moderator status could abuse that to kick out a hated user (although that never must happen, of course).

I edit my posts often to remove small grammar mistakes or to add forgotten letters - I don't care if someone might think "Omfg, that ass edits his posts again, omgsucklol", since I'm no native English citizen

I doubt any moderator would resort to that.

I know that option has pissed me off a few times on an Invision board I go to. I respond without quoting the original post, and then they edit their post without using the edit line. It's frustrating.

There aren't any problems with seeing the edit line when someone fixes their typos.

Syntax: I know this is offtopic but i think you should search for the "," key in your keyboard.

One thing _can_ be improved, although it is an optical aspect only

Instead of
(edited by Surlent on 11-13-04 12:21 PM)
(edited by Surlent on 11-13-04 12:22 PM)
(edited by Jesper on 11-13-04 12:22 PM) etc.

it might simply contain the last editor, date and maybe the number of times the post was edited.

so the last line might change to

(edited 3 times, last by Jesper on 11-13-04 12:22 PM)

But there are other things more important than that *cough editpoll.php cough*

I prefer the way it is now. Silent editing seems like an extremely stupid idea (hehe, i'll edit out the flame silently) and not being able to tell who edited it before you did kind of ruins it (No, Jesper never edited it, I did. I just fixed some errors and noticed more)

I think not recording edits could easily lead to abuse and confusion...

I'm almost postive Jesper, and most people with common sense will agree

but speaking of new features... I will use Jesper's new Close after posting check box..... right now.....
