If you need my domain name and my ftp password again but don't remember it, let me know, I remember it. Hopefully this means the server'll be a bit faster, because the FTP had a tendancy of not working unless I tried the upload like 10 times before it actually initiated, but as it turns out, that may have been a problem on my end.

I have absolutely no need for a database at this moment, but if I ever suddenly want a database in the future, how do I acquire it? Just PM you?

Ok, so on this new host, who do we go to if we want to change our ftp passwords? Is it still you?

Yeah Jesper, actually I do.... about the only exception would be if I'm having sex, or somewhere my cell phone dosen't work...

24 hours a day ... 7 days a week, other than that I will answer the phone....

And my hosting provider does have 24/7 support...

so if the hardware fails I can get it replaced any time of day....

I actually provide a HIGHER level of support than they do...

for example... try asking them to add a PHP Extension for you, I guarantee they won't do it....

I have added 4 PHP Extensions for my customers....

among other custom configurations, that a "big hosting company" would never do for you...

so, if you really think about it... I offer MORE support than that "big company"

I have the same resources available to me to resolve hardware fKitten Yiffers that they do....

If a piece of hardware fails in my server... they will fix it IMMEDIATELY....

and I restore information from the backup from the last sunday

We could discuss this forever but I've already made my decision. Some people are just more comfortable with company hosting, and I happen to be one of them. Let's drop this before we resort to flaming or go wildly offtopic.

Well I guess if you are fine with paying more for less... And more for less customer service, then that is your peroggative like you said....

I am a company though.... I keep records and do everything required of me by law to be a business... Not considering fiftypounds.com a company is just foolish and incorrect..... If you want to say I'm not a large company then you are right... I have a personal relationship with all my customers and provide a great deal of service to them... My customers aren't just whee another few dollars every month... Most people would prefer a higher level of customer service and support and pay more for that.... Not pay more for less customer service and support.... I've not had a single unhappy customer... And half the customers I have now were from word od mouth referrals....

So jesper... I apologize on behalf of my company for being a small personable business who listens to what my customers ask for... Make system configureation changes upon request after evaluating how it would of course affect other customers.. And of course charging less for all of that..... Please forgive the retarted administration of fiftypounds.com for providing affordable high quality hosting with a personal level of support offered to every customer.....

This is why I said "hush" in the first place. I know you would hold some kind of grudge with me for picking something else. I respect people making their own choices; note how I haven't passed judgement on anyone picking Fifty Pounds, while you appearently, with this last post, pass judgement on me for not doing so?

I called your company sometimes by your name, sometimes by its own name. This is not out of disrespect or spite - merely to make it easier to visualize this. You could call your company Fifty Pounds Integrated Corporate Fiber Networking Solutions and Consultation, Inc. if you'd like, but it'd still be run by one person. This is not inherently a bad thing, nor is it inherently a good thing. It all depends on what one's priorities are when picking hosts. Mine was support, because I'm tired of having been my own helpdesk.

I do not doubt for one second that you're good at providing support to your customers; probably better than the 'drones' at bigger companies. However, if even ten or twenty customers at any hosting company wanted support with different things at the same time, as I'm sure will happen, I'm not sure I'd want to be either the sole guy providing support or one of the customers in line. That has been my major point all the time. Just because it's cheaper to have someone you know build you a computer doesn't mean it's treason to go out and buy one. And I ask you once again to call off the fight and just accept that I'm (according to you) throwing money in the lake.

I hold no grudge, but I think your reasons for choosing someone else are somewhat flawed....

that's like saying I was pissed at you for the last 2 almost 3 years I've known you cause you hosted your shit at home.... I don't really care where you buy hosting, I just don't think you, or anyone else, has much of a LEGITIMATE reason for hosting elsewhere, when you get right down to it and think about it...

although you wouldn't like my hosting as I sell single user accounts..... so you are the only person I know.... that has a pseudo valid reason for hosting elsewhere....

I think the fact that you think my level of support is inferior to a big hosting company is just out right wrong.... that's all I'm saying.... I think you have a valid reson for using that other company... so but so far you didn't even list that reason... I sell single user webhosting accounts.... you for some reason find a need to give free webhosting services to a shitload of people... something that I don't really allow my customers to do....

I practically give webhosting away as it is.... if someone else wants hosting, in my opinion they can buy an account too.....

Okay, Erk and I worked out that argument on AIM, but I have something else to say.

1. NO MP3s are being reuploaded to the server, regardless of what's on them. I don't know if the particular MP3 files you have are legal, I don't know if Aletia runs some kind of OMG BAN bot that automatically yells for some guy to check on it, in which case if they could find copyrighted songs on there I'd be toast. I'll be keeping all MP3s harvested from the various folders on my HD and will give them back to those who used to keep them on the condition that you won't reupload it. I can't afford to not enforce something like this.

2. Uploading is taking a lot more time than I anticipated. With databases I hope to have everything setup until friday is over my time; readjustments will be needed though.

3. Thanks again for your cooperation and patience. We'll be there soon.

He's allowed to choose whoever he wants, Erk. I think the single-user/multi-user thing is a pretty valid argument, and I'm also sure he checked out the ToS of the company first to figure out if he could just recreate the wootest.net network there or not.

It would be like if I was the owner of a (online/offline) store. I'd love for all my friends to shop there, of course, but they might not always come. I might not have something they want, or they might be able to find a better deal somewhere else. In the big picture of things, it doesn't matter because you're going to get the business from somewhere, be it from a circle of friends or not.

Jesper: Couldn't people end up getting "around" that with zip files? I don't have any MP3's on my space, but you'll have to make sure that it's enforced somehow.

Then again, *MOST* people shouldn't have MP3 libraries in the first place.

I'm sorry, I DID have mp3s on my account, but they were all just random stuff that I made, like recordings of me, or a song I made in FLStudio or something.

99% of the time, when I upload a sound file, it'll be something that I made, and not an illegal song pirate or whatever everyone's going nuts about.

I can't complain or anything, since this is free hosting, so there we go.

I should go to the site, I want to see exactly what guidelines we have to follow, in terms of content and stuff.

Edit: Nuts, it just says MP3 under the list of non-acceptible content and/or links thing. That's really not specific, but if I need to host a sound file, I'll just use wma or something. None of my stuff is illegal, thankfully.

Jesper, can you find out any details to the mp3? Like, do they say "no mp3s at all period end of sentence", or is it just "no illegal mp3s"?

Colleen, my POINT though was that that was never one of his reasons.... his other reasons for picking that host are invalid in my opinion, and he actually pretty much agreed with me after talking about it on IM for a bit.....

anyway ... as he said we resolved the disagreement, as it were, on IM

The details are these: "I don't know". I will assume a worst case scenario of no mp3s at all because it makes the most sense; anything less and I might get shut down. Not fun. Other than that, I completely understand that they have a right to demand that no illegal mp3s are being kept there, so for people like you, Drag, who create their own music, I'm afraid you're going to have to be able to back most of the copyright up, or find a way to get around it by not storing the actual mp3 - like zipping it or encrypting/encoding it and having a download script decrypt/decode it on the fly. I'll have to remind you that these same people host Rydain, who host her own music on her domain, so as long as you can back your own copyright up, Drag, you should be home free. Either that, or we'll take Rydain down with us.

Unless your idea of restoration of Leg Log was a blank page with nothing but the cryptic word "Neo" on it.

Wow man, you uploading 800 Megs, plus getting it all to work. If I even could do that, I wouldn't, as I'm assuming getting the DB working again would take some time.

Oh, I forgot to mention that. I have to set up every subdomain again. I had 20-30 subdomains, and around 1-3 alias subdomains for each. When you go to a subdomain that's not set up, you're still sent to the correct server ("neo"), but you won't end up in the right folder. And it takes me two page loads in the control panel to set up ONE subdomain.

I spent all of 2PM to 1AM yesterday setting up old databases, transferring files, even correcting code that connects to databases. I still didn't get through everything. So there's a fork in the road here. Either you can bitch about how you're not my absolute top priority, or you can help me out by sending me stuff like your preferred login and password. What did you choose? Bitching.

No love, Leg. No love.

Thank you very much for letting me put stuff on your host (which was your computer), Jesper. It really helped me out, and I appreciated it.

Also, thank you for taking the time to move _EVERYTHING_ to the new server.

There we go, I have to say this because it's free hosting that doesn't require the pages to be raped by ads, and is very decent.
