Or am I the only one on the planet, not wetting themselves with anticipation for Halo 2. Same goes for Half life 2 for that matter. All FPS' bore me to death. I've played them all, and the only ones I remotely liked were Goldeneye and Doom.

Please say I'm not alone...

For what it's worth, I *gasp* have never played Halo. Ever.

What can I say, nobody I know has an Xbox in this friggin town. And if they do, all they play are football games.

Though I do admit, I want to play it pretty badly now... For your sake at least, I hope my expectations are too high.

I never did like Halo as a game but the story line is pretty good, the books are alright also.

Elmo: Definitely. Not everyone is a huge fan of FPS games, so it's naive to think that 95% of Xbox owners will pick up the game. It'll still be a hell of a lot of people, though.

I don't mind FPS games but I'll pick a few other genres (sports, sim, action, RPG, etc.) over them.

i borrowed my teachers husband's copy of halo since he was getting halo 2 later that day, and so far, its alright, it might be worth a purchase at 19.99, but not the 29.99 asking price now, maybe i'll trade in some stuff to get it for cheap..

I have no X-Box.

BUT, I realise Halo-2 is big news. You know a game is big news when Walmart puts the soundtrack to the game on the stands at the front of the electronics' section with the CDs of various popular well-selling artists.

I don't dislike it. *picks up a shield to soften the incoming blows*

I'll gladly admit it's not as perfect as many people say it is (those interior levels are annoying as hell). But I don't think it's a bad game.

Of course, I plan to get Tony Hawk's Underground 2 before I get Halo 2. And I also plan to get a Playstation 2 before I get Halo 2. (Sadly, current Playstation's not doing so well...)

Oh... It's VERY easy to come up with a bad review of Halo 2.

Shocking.

Hell...I rented the first one, when it was a week rental here...and played it for a few hours....then returned....I dont see whats so good about it...and I dont even think I will rent the second one...I dunno why, I just didnt like it, and I like the odd FPS(Goldeneye, stuff like that) just not halo....its weird, I just guess I didnt think it was the greatest out there...although, im the RPG fan, so I like rpg's better, I do like challenging games more, and most FPS just dont have that, and they are really short.....

Meh, the Halo story was quite good, the gameplay was average, and it was HORRIBLY OVERRATED.

People worshiped that game like it was the only game out there, just because it was popular.

Yes windwaker, indeed. I know about hundreds of people (note: exaggeration) who have little to no care about any other game, genre, system, etc. all because of OMG HALO IT ARE SOOOOOO KEWL +10! It irks the hell out of me, that they can be total asses and so bloody closed-minded.

Just like Nintendo fanboys running around never shutting up anger me.

Colleen, that review is unfair, because if that is the case, I can take a completely sweet game, like GTA: San Andreas and make it look like shit. In fact you can do that for any game.

Shocking.

Halo is overrated. Halo is not revolutionary, just as Final Fantasy 7 was not revolutionary, just as Grand Theft Auto III was not revolutionary.

Halo changed little about the genre. I own Halo for the PC. On the PC, it's a generic FPS that looks very nice. I can drive vehicles, follow along with an amusing storyline, shoot things, snipe things, rocket launcher things, and if I feel up to it, I can throw a few grenades at my foes. I can do all of this, with the exception of the plot part, in a game such as Unreal Tournament 2004, and I can do literally all of it in Half Life.

I didn't say Halo was a bad game. I just don't think it's worth getting an Xbox for. Similarly, while the ability to punch people off of vehicles is certainly alluring, I doubt I will jump out of my computer chair, buy an Xbox, and get Halo 2 and join the many fanboys that think it's the greatest game ever because they haven't picked up an RPG in their lifetime.

To me, Halo belongs where all good first person shooters belong. On the PC.

Ziff: Yes but I only posted that link for fun. Although there's a few games that I don't think you could do that trick with... Ocarina of Time strikes me as possibly one.

I don't think people are being idiots or anything if they like Halo 2 - it's a game in a genre. If you like the genre, odds are you'll probably like the game. Now, whether the game's a status symbol or something in the Xbox world, I can't say.

GTA3 and Halo were sort of revolutionary in the simple aspect that they took alot of great elements from games in those genres, added new elements, and focused on the gameplay aspects. These days, that seems rare.

If you only played Halo on PC, then you're missing out. the port to PC turned halo into a generic FPS, like you said. on the xbox, its alot more.
Im sort of tired of the Halo is overrated thing. Granted, theres alot of dipshit fanboys like there are with FF7.

On the Xbox, the game really is alot different. Theres alot more strategy and subtleties about it. Ive posted all those in another thread, so im not oging to go into it here. One major thing tho, is that one the xbox, everyone is equal. Halo on the xbox is more about the GAME. FPS on PC is more about mastering the controlls, getting a badass mouse, and mastering the ENGINE. not the GAME. I wish i could explain this easier, but the concept is so intangible to me that i cant.

Theres just alot about Halo that I would like to see on other FPS games. When i play most FPS now, i feel those elements i came to appreciate in Halo are missing. For example, Medal of Honor. Its such a shitty game. the AI blows, the engine blows, the scripts blow..

If you're not really into First Person Shooters, then i could imagine why you woudlnt care for Halo. Personally, Ive played a ton of FPS and i noticed alot of the same elements being repeated over and over and the cliche taking over the genre. Halo was a nice breath of fresh air.

Also, FPS no longer belong to the PC. If done right, an FPS is very playable on a console. I think the Xbox is the best right now, because of its contoller. The PSX's analog sticks are too sensative and annoying, and the Gamecube.. well... the GCN controller is best for first party Nintendo games and arcade fighters.

In anycase, Id like to see more Xbox FPS games done as well as Halo was done. The Fragfest genre needs to die. We've played Doom3, serious sam, heritic, hexen, quake, etc etc over and over and over. Im done with the run and gun and blow shit up with the BFG. I need strategy in my FPS, and Halo delivered.

Halo 2, however.. meh. They turned it into a generic run and gun, and im not impressed. If thats your thing, I suggest you play Halo 2 as a game, and not as a Halo sequel. Its a good Fragfest game. Its just not my style.

Speaking of HL2, some *stores* managed to leak it today, which is likely going to get them in a ton of trouble.

Smart move though - online play won't be enabled until the official launch date. So the current owners can play through the game, but they're shut out of online fragging for a while.
