I guess comics count as entertainment... anyways: does anyone else love Johnny? I love the craziness of the whole thing. I also like Fillerbunny and Happy Noodle Boy. Man those are genious!

I have the "best of" book (or whatever it's called) and I enjoyed it a bit. But I can't understand why everyone makes such a big deal about it. I mean, I've seen much better. To me, it was just slightly amusing.

But then again, the people who are die-hard fans are normally goths. So what does that tell ya?

But Jhonen Vasquez fucking rules either way.

Johnny the Crap Eating manian more like.

The art was repitive, and Johannenwhatever's attempts at self-depreciating humour fall far short. If I wanted to hear humour like that, I'd listen to Woody Allen, at least that man can stimulate the imagination and not draw annoying goths from all corners of the world. Did I tell you about the art? Oh wait, I never elaborated on how the art doesn't need to be dull and drab for EVERY panel. It is okay every now and then, that is called emphasis. But EVERY GOD DAMNED PANEL. This man has taken the beauty of sequential art and desecrated it. When Will Eisner dies, Assquez is going to dig up his fresh-dead body and fill his coffin up with shit. And just for spite, he'll invite Stan Lee.

Don't like it. Could explain somewhat but why?

In fact everything I have seen that had anything to do with Jhonen Vasquez I didn't like.

Except Invader Zim.

Well I'm a die-hard fan and I'm not a goth. I'm a nerd.

It reminded you of Invader Zim because they're both done by Jhonen Vasquez... Also: If I had JTHM: Directors Cut, I'd read it all day and all night again and again and again!

Legion: I believe you're talking about the Director's Cut; that's the one I have.

Johnny the Homicidal Maniac was essentially what it needed to be when it needed it. At the beginning, there's not really too much of a story to it, and Johnny as a character is a little flat. But at that point, all the reader really needs to be caught is a glimpse of the violence and the oddity.

Eventually, though, the series starts to actually take a form and a storyline. Johnny's reveled to be a part of some universal mechanism and the story takes on a sort of... mythology? Okay, maybe that's a bit extreme, but I do like how the story develops away from the mindless mindlessness as it progresses.

I got into JtHM when I was a bit younger, and I loved the series at the time. These days, I can see a certain degree of cheeze in some of it. I might not be quite so overwhelmed with adoration as I once was, but I still think it's pretty awesome.

I think that Jhonen Vasquez's grasp of his own style of humor certainly grew by leaps and bounds as the years pass. Same thing for his imagination. I Feel Sick can be abso-fucking-tively hillarious at points, and Invader Zim maintains a pretty much constant state of funny. It's strange that no matter how many times I see him, Old Kid still gets me evey time.
