I thought of a cool idea for a Gamecube accessory. (No, I'm not telling. ) What do I do with it? Nintendo won't accept ideas from users (or if they do, they claim them as their own ) so that idea's kinda out. Could I just submit my idea/sketch to a company or should I design a prototype of some sort first? Who would I submit it to exactly? (I'm Canadian BTW. As if you didn't know. )

You make it yourself, and market it yourself. It'll be third party, nothing you can do about it. Then you have to hope it succeeds. Simple as that...as if anything can be simple anymore.

There's some company out there that will let you register a patent for your idea. I would suggest looking on google and from there, read up on several companies.

I wish I could remember the name of the company that I see on TV late at night.

"Invention Submission Corporation" or something to that effect. At least that's what I think I remember.

My mother is a sales rep for the Nova Scotia/Newfoundland area for NOC. You could send your sketches and ideas to me and ill pass it on to the current president of Nintendo of Canada.

Well I could make and market it sure, but what about mass production? (Any that I made myself would be horrible quality and very, very expensive. Alright for a prototype, not an actual product. )

I bought a third party GC -> PC adapter. It's a huge business, you could make a lotta money.

Er, I'm not entirely sure what a GC -> PC adapter is, nor how that really relates to this...

1: Patent the idea (in case the nerd in step 2 or the company in step 3 would like to steal it).
2: (Not neccesary) Talk to a GC nerd who knows everything about every single piece of the GC and ask him about making a prototype.
3: Talk to a company like Joytech (LIKE Joytech, not Joytech itself, since their products suck) about your idea.
4: Get rich.

By the way... Could you PM the idea to me? I'm curious... (No, I won't steal it. )

Hm, does it cost money to file a patent? Might have to wait. I can probably make a simple prototype myself, it's not that complicated of an idea really. (I'll tell you this: It's a wacky new approach to a common idea. )
Also once I've got it built, how exactly do I get someone interested in it? (Even if I knew who to talk to, I doubt I'm going to have much in the way of credibility. ) I was actually thinking about the possibility of having it licensed by Nintendo. (Unlikely, but it could happen. It's not exactly some kinda crazy thing that Nintendo would hate, like a Gameshark. And no, it's not a cheat device.)

It is either a new controller, or a new gameboy adapter thing, and possibly a new approach to online gaming.

Getting a patent is not cheap, in the US the filing fee is currently 790 USD. After a patent has been examined there is a issue fee of 1370 USD. There are also maintenance fees that are required to in order to prevent the patent from expiring.

Getting a patent is probably not even worth it.

Ouch! Maybe I'll just send a copy to myself via registered mail, so that I at least have dated proof of it.

actually they are alot more expensive, cause you have to get a patent attorney:
Get a registered patent agent.
Look in your telephone directory under 'Patent Attorneys and Agents

Sending a copy to yourself by registered mail is not considered strong enough proof of prior art to hold up in court because it is possible to tamper with it after seding it to yourself.

1. It links a GC controller up to the PC.
2. It's a third party game accessory.
3. I just said that third party gaming accessories make lotsa money.

I'd think past lawsuits would have convinced you that that's irrelivant.
