As the title implies, I am currently 17 years old and haven't had a job yet. For the past 3 years I could have tried to get a job, but I really haven't. This past summer I attempted it and applied to maybe 20 places or so, many of them promising "I would get the job". In fact I got several interviews, and then nothing back. I was very productive about this too, I took notes about places, I called people back, and kept in touch with places, and got nothing but a waste of effort back.

Now I haven't really tried to apply anywhere. For one, I've gotten lazy about it, Two I'm already busy as it is with school and other things, Three I don't see it as a big deal.

Sure, I'd like to have the extra cash to spend on whatever and probably get my own car. But my parents always give me access to one of their vehicles, and I already have a fair amount of money from mowing neighbors yards, and recently it was my birthday. (Hint, hint)

So what do you think about this? Am I way behind schedule and should really look out for a job? Or is it really that big of a deal right now in my life as a Junior in High School?

Eh, not everyone have a job at 17. Here in Sweden it's not very common.

I have no job, and i'm 18. I won't consider searching for jobs until my graduation, and well I find myself busy with my hobbies.

I'm going to be 22 and still haven't had a job.

But regardless, it's not a big deal. When I was graduating from high school... I'd guess only 50% of the class (13-14 out of 26) had part-time jobs. Depends more on the "need" for a job in most cases at that time.

I've had four since age 14...you aren't missing much unless you really need the cash, and only one of those instances I really needed it.

Look for one when you know you'll need the money for something. That way, even if the job sucks balls, you'll know why you're there.
Most of all, getting a job needs a great deal of luck and no better candidates than you going for it. Since you have no jobinterviews, don't be picky, and apply for anything you might be capable of.
Were you trying to get a summerjob during summer, or did I misread that? Because if you were (and summer in general is a bad time to look for a job because of summerjobs), it's kinda normal no one hired you.

Yeah I was looking for a job around mostly May a few months ago, and was possibly hoping that it would continue on and become more of a weekend / part time job for the weekends during the school year.

But so far, it looks like I'm not alone... so it feels good to get this off my chest. And no, I'm not really in need of any money for myself other than "Oh if I did I could buy a lot of games and stuff I want" so it's not really a big deal to me personally right now.

But yeah I was "summerworking" myself, mowing lawns and stuff for neighbors, and now some neighbors have asked if I'd be able to shovel their driveways for this winter whenever it snows.

You don't have a job? So? As long as you don't need money, it's not like it's that important.

Lots of students work during the summer exclusively (if they don't need to pay rent/other expenses) or just work full-time during the summer and 10-15 hours a week the rest of the year.

As a side note, if you're going to get a part-time job, try to limit yourself to 15 hours a week at most during school. Studies done in Canada have shown that anything about that = harm to grades and the like.

get a job at whatever college you go to.

that's usually a decent first job, i think. Better than fast food.

It doesn't really matter much, really. Sure, its great having your own money. But trust me on this one, it doesn't really matter when you get one, so long as you get one.

you can work as many hours you want for as long as you grades do not suffer. For almost the past year, I've worked about 20 hrs per week and averaged ~20 units in college.

but anyways, getting a job at your school is one of the best jobs you can get since you can get paid to study if you get the right one (i.e. work at the university library)

If anyone's serious about finding a studentjob, apply for it in feb-march. That's when most places start accepting applications, and the best time to land one. April's pushing it, and may is nearly impossible
In the 3 years I've had summerjobs, I always started preparing it in january (where would I like to work? what would be practical, considering I only have public transport and no own car, etc), made a resume, and then hit every place I wanted during february and march.
I've always had one, so I'd say it'll be a working method

I've wanted to get a job for a while, but I've not been able to because of circumstances beyond my control.

You're busy with other things, so you're not "lazy" or anything like that. I'm almost done with school, so if I didn't get one soon or go to college, that'd be lazy. If you were easily flying through all your classes and never needed to bring work home to do, I'd say you should get a job. But if you have to work at your classes - I don't doubt that you get good grades - then you should focus on that. A job would only add stress.

I've never actually had a job, per say, but I have had work experence, which is working at a business for high school credits. I mowed laws and shoveled driveways when I lived in town. I'm 18, and taking courses through corispondance. I have no job, and I'm fine.

I probably won't get a job until I can actually get enough money to move to Edmonton. Living in the country can suck that way. Small towns nearby don't help any.
