Right now I have this killer artifact deck. It revolves around charge counters and modular cards. I got a forge and a reactor in there, also 4 coretappers and 2 energy chambers. I got an arcbound reclaimer which I use to bring back artifacts and is a deadly combination with my arcbound reclaimer (I once was putting 5 counters a turn on my reactor). It's got 2 of every color of mana producing Myr (Still stuck in elf-deck land(by the way my elf deck owns too)). It's got a couple of Banshee's Blades. It's got Suncrusher. It's got that card that destroys one of every basic land + is a 7/10. Does anyone recommend any additional cards and/or strategies for the deck? EDIT: Here's a decklist: Artifacts x1 Darksteel Forge x1 Darksteel Reactor x1 Myr Incubator x1 Tower Of Fortunes x2 Energy Chamber x1 Lightning Coils x2 Spawning Pit x1 Darksteel Pendant x1 Nuisance Engine x1 Serum Tank x1 Darksteel Ingot x1 Ur-Golem's Eye x1 Tigereye Cameo Equipment x2 Banshee's Blade Creatures x1 Arcbound Reclaimer x1 Sundering Titan x1 Suncrusher x2 Arcbound Crusher x1 Arcbound Worker x1 Arcbound Slith x1 Arcbound Hybrid x4 Arcbound Bruiser x1 Arcbound Wanderer x1 Myr Enforcer x1 Coretapper x2 Iron Myr x2 Copper Myr x2 Silver Myr x2 Gold Myr x2 Leaden Myr Lands x1 Great Furnace x4 Tree of Tales x4 Seat of the Synod x4 Ancient Den x4 Vault of Whispers x4 Darksteel Citadel x2 Cloudpost x1 Stalking Stones x1 Mirroden's Core (edited by Nebetsu on 10-30-04 04:22 PM) (edited by Nebetsu on 10-30-04 04:23 PM) |

There is these modular creature that adds more counters during your upkeep to all modular creatures, don't know its name, but it is worth having one. Watch out though, it is expensive to play. I'll look up the name later.

Alright, I know a good bit about modern artifacts, and I can say that arcbound really isn't the way to go nowadays, you're better off switching it to an affinity deck or at least hybridizing it, since there are a lot of cards that have been made to get rid of counters on creatures, and also because the release of Kamigawa has made weenie decks much easier to do (soulshift and bushido). Big creature decks are starting to be outdone, and unless you have a real whopper of a card to take your foes on with (I.E. Phyrexian Processor or Memnarch) that allows you to create creatures at will, you're going to be stomped down by new decks. The mana drop myrs are a good thing, but you're going to need a lot of them to really be effective. Also, if you really insist on going for Modular, I'd suggest putting in some Power Conduits (lets you switch counters between artifact creatures) and maybe a Triskelion (comes into play with 3 1/1 counters on it, remove any amount of coutners, deal that much damage to a creature) or two, to help wipe out those tiny defenses. If you have some Myr Prototypes in there as well (every upkeep put a 1/1 counter on it) as counter harvesters, you'll have a constant supply of indirect damage dealing power to counter new-age white weenie decks and shadow decks alike, which seem to be your biggest enemy right now. Also, I'd watch out for permission decks, they're probably the biggest enemy you have right now. If you're up against a blue deck, it'd be best to throw in some counterspells of your own (seeing as how you appear to be running a rainbow deck). When up against a blue deck, keep in mind that everything, EVERYTHING YOU DO, could be countered, so you need to play tactically. And if you ever see a deck with any card with the word "Time" in its title, just run. |

The only good modular creatures are ravager and worker. An actual deck list would really help. but i can say, go for affinity. Frogmites, ornithopters, Enforcers, Ravagers, and disciples of the vault are the way to go. Shrapnel Blast, too. You'd be better off taking the suncrusher and sundering titan too. Those are definite targets for blue control decks, especially if they use stuff like bribery and acquire. I should know because i play a blue control deck myself and green stompy's still good... especially with Kodama of the North Tree. What does ravager do again? Also, I'll post a decklist soon. EDIT: Looked up Ravager and it's a disappointment in comparison to Arcbound Crusher which gets a +1/+1 counter whenever an artifact comes into play plus has trample. (edited by Nebetsu on 10-30-04 03:42 PM) |

Ravager's really efficient...combined with disciple of the vault, you can easily get third or even second turn kills with it. 1st turn, Vault, thopter, thopter, tooth, frogmite, disciple second turn: Furnace, ravager, pump thopter/frogmite with tooth, sac everything except whatever you pumped to ravager, with them losing life for each artifact sac'd. That's easily if they're still not dead and you still have land, shrapnel blast them or swing again. Play against a good ravager affinity deck and you'll be singing a different tune. EDIT: Well, its not as fast as it used to be, so there's next to no chance of a turn two kill.... but turn three/four is most likely. Tweaked it a bit.. err.. a lot rather...Most of the cards i put on there aren't hard to come by at all. Win Condition: Sac the retriever to the iron-works (With another in the graveyard.. if not, sac two), player loses 1 life from disciple. Repeat. You also have broodstars for backup. Artifacts x4 Krak-Clan Ironworks/Ashnod's altar. Whatever works. Creatures x4 Myr Retriever x4 Disciple of The Vault x4 Broodstar (they're not hard to get at all) x4 Ornithopter x4 Frogmite Spells x4 Night's Whispers x4 Thirst for Knowledge x4 Echoing Truth x4 Mana Leak Lands x4 Vault of Whispers x4 Seat of the Synod x8 Island x4 Swamp Just a suggestion, don't run just one of any card unless its restricted in tournaments. Or if it's a legend. Can't forget about those crazy legends, especially with the new Kamigawa Legend policy. However, Val's forgetting about the other kind of Blue deck you have to watch out for, the mind taking kind. Cards like Vedalken Engineer, Desertion, Memnarch, and even Grab the Reins (even though it's a red card I've seen some deadly red/blue combination decks) can take all of the power you amass and turn it against you. You might think it'd take some time to do, but most of the Mirrodin Block Vedalkens can get artifact decks rolling along really quickly, it's best to watch yourself. |

you can't really build an artifact deck without disciple of the vault.

Except replace "Targeting everything on the board" with "KA-COUNTERED!!!!" See, cause I run a blue artifact deck so everything gets coun--- it's a joke. But I do have to admit, when I saw that combo in action I was pretty impressed. Here's an interesting one though; I've seen a black weenie deck, except it wasn't really so much a black weenie deck as it was "four consecutive dark rituals" and a sinkhole per turn. Took out Rob in four moves. |
