The plan is to leave. On the date in quesiton, I'm going to be packing my bags; everything will fit into a backpack and a duffel bag. Anything that isn't necessary to carry will not be carried, as the extra weight would only slow me down.
I am then walking out of town. Not driving, not taking a train or a bus or anything fancy like that. Walking. I'm going to go northeast, to Montreal, spend a week or two there, and then head out west, to the praries and then Vancouver. Walking.
You probably think I'm crazy. Yeah, well, so do I.
But in any case, I believe that this is an experience that will teach my more than any school could ever offer me. I'm pretty much going to be doing away with money, getting by through bartering, services, and foraging.
This isn't a joke. I'm dead serious.
Before leaving, I'm going to be discarding all my identification, my cell phone, any timepeices, and stepping completely out of the system, like I've dreamed of for years. I had never thought it possible but the past few days living either homeless or off of the kindness of others has really opened my eyes.
It's gonna require a fuckload of planning, but hey, I have plenty of time.

A secondary objective which I don't intend on meeting, but would be fairly impressed if I did, is starting a nomadic tribe. Gathering enough people on the journey to form a whole social order.
I don't actually intend on accomplishing this.
But it would be nice if I did.

I think it would be funny to arrive in a town, completely lost.

"No, like... What city am I in?"

I like your plan, because it's something I've thought of doing many times. I've just wanted to almost the same thing as you, save for the throwing away all id and such. I don't really see why I would need it though.

It would be an interesting life to say the least, a very nice adventure. The only thing I worry about is food. Not so much shelter, you can get that anywhere. I don't really fancy myself eating out of garbage cans.

So do you plan on never using money, or....?

You should carry some form of I.D., though, cause they might need it to identify your body.

You'll still keep in contact with everyone here, right? I'm sure there's internet cafes around.

Anyway, dropping off the grid sounds like fun. Before you do it, though, prove the Matrix is real. That'll make it all worth it.

What I really want to know is what you intend to learn or prove by going on said journey.

I like that idea, I like it a lot. It's very Thoreau-ish in attitude. I want to do the same thing when I graduate from college, or at least something similar to it. I intend on going to Montana, or Wyoming, or someplace like that that has a lot of isolated, open space. I'm going to learn about solar power, about water power, and basically provide for myself everything that I can; my own electricity, my own heating, water supply, plants to live off of, anything I can. It's for a couple of reasons, mainly to prove to my mother that I CAN be a modern-day Thoreau and live on my own without society, and also to just see if I can do it.

You've got a good idea, and I definitely think it's possible. Foolhardy, maybe. Challenging? Yeah. But impossible? Not at all.

I still don't quite understand the logic behind this. From what you posted, it just sounds like you are just doing this for the hell of it.

Well, yeah. Thats pretty much it. Isn't it? Some people have their ambitions. I know I want to do it just for the hell of it. People don't explain why they do stuff because some stuff just has no explanation. Doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

I'd love to see someone actually pull it off. I know I don't want to or can do it, but nonetheless, it'd be nice to see someone pull it off.
It does seem awfully much like running away from something though.

Just because the explanation isn't known to us doesn't mean there's no explanation, which is why I keep digging in this thread. I don't think she's crazy or anything, I just don't think I have heard enough to understand her reasoning, that's all.

As for you, Grey, it seems like you have a lot of things to prove. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Thoreau live the way he did because he truly wanted to, and not to prove anyone wrong?

Ok sure, first: if there was a matrix would the movie Matrix have ever come to be? That movie would cause some wierdos to be paranoid and that could compromise the system. (Ironic that one of the ways to disprove the matrix is with the movie) Second: Why would they keep us in thought if they just needed our body heat, or whatever, couldn't they just empty us of all thought? It seems much smarter to do it this way...

Jarukoth I think Krestappechyeske is just doing this to get away from society. I have wanted to do this several times and have actually considered it. I couldn't do that now, but I might some day just so I can get away from hell that is this world.

The movie's explanation - that everyone's activity can be harvested to provide power - is actually a dumbed down explanation and maybe impossible as well. If we're immobile in those tubes, we don't generate enough power for the system to harvest. They originally wanted the Matrix to use the human brains as a neural network, basically lots of brains connected to eachother like a super computer, to work for the machines.

They couldn't empty us of all thought because in the movie (with the human = battery explanation), the neural activity (= thoughts) is what's generating the energy. We'd need to have something to think about all the time, something to parlay off, or we wouldn't be as effective. Thus the simulation of "the pinnacle of human civilization".

Hmmm..... I don't know what to say really. Well for starts you are one can short of a six pack, But then again a lot of people are. Well I do have to admit you are brave but even people who are brave wouldn't do this. Also must have a strong will to even SAY that and then do it. Well lets see what we got here Nuts, Brave, and the will. I do have to admit not many people even think of this, I mean sure people all the time go from one end of a country to the other but thats really only to say that they did. But you are gonna live on the open road for what it seems years. Well as i always say, if you have a plan then go do it and it looks like you have one.

An admirable and romantic idea...But talk to a homeless man named Port Perry Bill around Oshawa, Ontario. He'll tell you life alone on the streets is a lot harder than you'd like to think.

I would never do that, since i'm too attached to friends and family. The idea thrilled me a few times but, no.

And I guess I would be bored most of the time.

Cool. I've always wanted to do something like that.
But I'm only thirteen and it wouldn't be a smart idea.
