OOC: Melvin, I like your style. Care to have a duel?

Also OOC: This is actually the opening to a story arc I'd like to make in the SF, with this being a formal invitation to join.

Grey stepped out of a Hovertaxi, his eyes turning upward towards the top of the M-Tek headquarters building. This certainly seemed to be the place. Big, extravagant doors, taller-than-you-could-imagine skyscraper, and somehow he had a feeling if he did a bit of sniffing around, he'd find a great big stash of anime. Downloaded off the internet, no doubt.

It was a cold, cloudless day in Japan; the skies were certainly clear and the sun was shining brightly, but Grey could feel the brisk air flowing through his coat. He walked slowly towards the front door, his hand gradually nearing his gun holster. Somehow he had a feeling he'd need it, regardless of what Melvin said...

Grey: "Well, Melvin, I've got an offer to make you... Let's see if you take it."

Melvin was sitting in his office in his bathrobe, both feet on his desk, enveloped in fuzzy slippers. The TV was showing a rerun of Baka Baka no Smithy-kun. The double doors opened with a swish, as Smithy stepped in.

Smithy: Er, Boss? Someone here to see you.

Melvin: Who? It's Saturday morning. Nobody in their right mind would come and see me. Cartoons are on right now.

Smithy: I dunno. Some guy just came up to the doors and started ranting and raving. Shall I... deal with him?

Melvin: Nah, forget it. It's Saturday morning, so it must be important. I'll be down in a second--

Leaning backwards, Melvin's cushy office chair flipped over, sending him directly out the window behind him. Falling towards the ground, he aimed his fingers towards the ground, and snapped them -- a large flash emitted, followed by billowing amounts of smoke, which he dove out of, in his trademark labcoat outfit.

Melvin flipped over, feet towards the ground now, and opened his arms as his Jet Scrander wings shot out from his back, quickly slowing his decent just in time, as he dropped to the cement in front of Grey, his shoes clacking against the ground.

Melvin: Hey! What can I do for you?

Grey: "Perfect timing, Mr. President."

Looking at his watch, Grey realized that he was the one who was late for this appointment, now that the facts were clear. Though, of course, when one hasn't officially made an appointment, one can't really be late for it, now can he? Grey crossed his arms, turned toward Melvin, and adjusted his hat before he spoke.

"I will not mince words, I'm here for a reason. You see, Mr. President, I've been looking up some background information on you and your family, and you seem perfectly suited for a job that one of my clients has coming up. Indeed, it is not I who asks your employment, but him. He's supposedly raising an army to assist him with an extreme personal feud, and is looking for the best of the best; the strongest, the fastest, and in your case...."

Grey casts a sidelong glance at Melvin's attire...

"....the most well-equipped. As such, I was asked to find him several of these above-average individuals, and your name magically appeared on my list of interesting people to check out."

At this, Grey stepped back a bit and placed his hands in his pockets.

"So, I'm here to check you out. Are you really as heroic as my information suggests?"

Melvin grinned and nodded, hands at his sides.

Melvin: Why, yes, yes I am. So what might this 'extreme personal feud' be that you speak of?

Grey: "Well, I don't know all the details myself, but apparently my client is quite insane. He claims to be "Immortal" or something like that. I can't see how it's at all possible, nobody's immortal, everyone dies. Problem with this guy is he says he can't die, and he wants them to pay for that."

At this, Grey shifted uneasily between his feet and loosened his coat a bit. He didn't have a good feeling about this job. Jobs like this tended to turn out weird, and usually very painful for him.

"Anyway, he hired me to investigate the best the world has to offer, and, as I said, your name was on the list. I guess in order to see just how powerful you are, I'll need a demonstration."

Grey kept fidgeting. He had a really bad feeling about this...

"And I'll level with you, good sir. I'm not particularly interested in his personal matters, he's paying me a lot of money for this job. So then, will you please oblige me?"

Melvin: One obliging, coming up!

Melvin slid back into a defensive stance, before pulling back his sleeve with a single tug, holding his watch to his face -- and as he spoke, the clock face began to blink green...

Melvin: Fumetsu no Mashin, Melvin Robo!

A giant, gloved, mechanical robot hand plowed through the cement at Melvin's feet, lifting him high into the air upon it's fist, as a towering giant robot in Melvin's image began to rise. Sliding himself down the hand and into the ear, he landed square in the cockpit seat, settling his hands on the two control sticks inside.

Melvin: Melvin Robo! Let's... IGNITION!

Melvin pulled on the control sticks, one foot pressing into the left pedal, and the gigantic Melvin Robo stepped one foot back, striking a generic henshin pose as the area behind it turned black, green thunderbolts striking down just behind him all badass-like.

Grey: "You're fucking kidding me...."

His coat flaps behind him as Grey darts out of the way of the giant, rising robot...

"There's no way in hell he's paying me enough money to deal with this kind of thing!"

Grey slams a cartridge of A.P. ammunition into his Magnum, knowing full well the absurdity of using normal armor-piercing bullets against a gargantuan behemoth such as that crazed, coated contraption. The sleeve of his trenchcoat flares outward, as a small grappling hook extends from it, which Grey fires upward to the top of the M-Tek HQ building!

"Here's to hoping he doesn't start smashing things!"

OOC: About how tall is the M-Tek building anyway?

(It's been completely blown apart various times and rebuilt at different heights. This IS Tokyo, after all. All the buildings are extremely volatile. At the moment, it's seventy stories tall.)

Melvin crossed his arms and leaned back in his cockpit, putting his feet up on the console.

Melvin: Yeah. I rock. So, are you impressed or what?

The speaker for the radio system off to the side begins to crackle.

Smithy: Er, Boss... I think he wants to fight you. o.o

Melvin: Er... Seriously?

Smithy: Yeah, I think so.

Grey's coat billowed in the wind as he hit the top floor of the building. A glint of metal showed beneath it, revealing a large amount of strange gadgets and devices. He pushed his hat further down on his head, casting a shadow over his eyes. Grey grinned a little, and drew his gun.

Grey: "Well, how else would I find out how good you are? After all, if you can't beat an average human, there's no way you can stand against what my client has described to me..."

Armor-piercing bullets.... But Grey's not aiming for the cockpit, for some reason...

Melvin: Well, it's-- Hey, wait. I'm not telling you!

Melvin pulled the left control stick back a bit, then shoved it forward--

Melvin: Rokketo Panchi!

Melvin Robo pointed it's left arm in Grey's direction, it's fist seperating from the rest of the arm, and flying towards him as the boosters in the wrist ignited, sending it along at a fairly fast speed.

Pistol in one hand, the other free, Grey extends his arm toward the Melvin-Robo's head, firing a grappling hook out of his coat sleeve that carries him out of the way of the Melvin-Robo's fist!

Grey: "Relax, where I am, I'll have plenty of time to figure it out."

Lo and behold, Grey lands neatly on the Melvin-Robo's shoulder and begins rapelling down the gargantuan mechanical being, looking for any openings he can...

Grey is immediately faced with a very large mechanical finger, which promptly moves to flick him off the arm of Melvin Robo in a Team Rocket-esque manner.

Grey's coat billows outward as he immediately drops towards the ground, only to have his grappling hook catch on one of the M-Tek HQ windows as the Melvin-Robo finger flicks empty air. This leaves Grey hanging from a windowledge by a steel cable attached to a polyester trenchcoat. Deciding to take more sufficient cover than open air, he scrambles to the closest open window that he can and climbs inside.

Grey: "Sheesh, it's gonna be tough to take that thing out. And here I was, trying to be some kind of badass David style character."

Peering out the window at the fearsome 1980s mecha throwback towering above him, Grey holds his gun in his hands, loads a specialized putty bullet into it, and fires a tiny plastic explosive at the Melvin-Robo's..... Well, actually, he decides to take his aim a few feet upward and fires at the midsection! Yeah... the midsection... Better idea.

The bullets simply plinked off of Melvin Robo's stomach. Inside, Melvin simply shook his head, pushing the left control lever forward--

Melvin: Mach Boomerang!

Melvin Robo proceeded to grab at it's belt, pulling it off. The belt then went stiff as a board, bending at 90 degrees in the center to become - well, a giant boomerang. Melvin Robo leaned back, and pitched the giant metal boomerang at Grey --

And totally missed. The boomerang went right over his opponent, and cleaved a random buisness office in half.

Melvin: This is getting us nowhere...

Grey: "Of course it's not. Your giant robot is configured for fighting targets that are large enough for you to hit."

Grey loads another clip of ammunition into his gun.

"I, on the other hand, can't possibly defeat something so big that my shots don't do any proportionate damage to it. We're at a stalemate, unless someone changes the conditions."

Grey looks around the destroyed office, knowing Melvin is, of course, a munitions expert. There's gotta be something he can use...

"I'm not exactly..... equipped to do that, myself."

Melvin Robo idly scratches at it's chin in thought.

Melvin: Well, I guess I've demonstrated the fact that I've got a giant robot to kick ass with. Just so you know, I've got plenty of other tricks than just rocket fists, but I'd rather not destroy my city any more than neccesary, y'know? And with that being said -- OPEN GATE!

Melvin slams the left control stick forward, and the towering Super Robot breaks into three, smaller planes, one red, one white, one yellow, each resembling a certain 70's Super Robot by an unnamed Japanese mangaka. Anyways, the small white plane and the yellow one flew off around the building, presumably to a Super Robot dock in the back. The red one, however, continues to hover about at the fifty-story level, while Melvin still sat snugly in the cockpit.

Melvin: Let's see if I can't hit you with this, ne?

Red cursors in the tactical display huddled around Grey's figure, and Melvin pressed down on a red button on his right control stick. A pair of missles fired out from the wings of the small plane-ish craft, hurtling straight towards his opponent.

Grey leaps out the window he's in, and as he falls, fires a bullet upward at one of the missiles, to detonate it before it hits the building! Assuming the missiles are impact-detonated, that should probably cause one of those fancy massive explosions you see in most generic animes...

Grey: "But.... there's still the falling issue...."

And indeed there is! A fifty-story fall is going to hurt just about anyone, and Grey's no exception. To slow his descent, Grey twists one of the buttons on his coat, triggering a small parachute from within his coat. While not exactly enough to keep him perfectly safe, it's still gonna make sure he's not a puddle of goo when he hits the ground, which he does -- hard.

The red Get Machine streaked into the air, into the direct of the path of the sun towards Grey's position, causing a blinding glare if he looked up towards his opponent. The Get Machine spiraled off, circling around the building, then firing another volley of missles towards him as he sailed for the ground.

From the bright glare of the sun, Grey sees the missiles coming, and barely manages a shounen "jump out of the way of the massive explosion while for some reason taking very little damage" maneuver before pointing his gun at the sky-flying Get Machine and firing! However, rather than empty an entire clip, Grey fires one. Single. Bullet. Standard Issue "Whitelight" Armor Piercing bullet, straight at the Get Machine's rear engine. Rolling along the ground from the impact of his leap, Grey brings himself to a standing position and attempts to admire his handiwork, however it may have fared.

The bullet travels straight through the left engine of the red Get Machine, and it spirals for a minute, then straggles off into the distance, a large plume of smoke billowing from it's rear.

And as Grey admires his handiwork, a figure drops from the sky, labcoat flaring behind him - with his foot poised to slam into the back of his unsuspecting opponent's head.

Assuming it hit, it probably would send Grey stumbling forward. Melvin would then have plenty of time to perform a well-executed backflip off his opponent's head, drawing his gun as he spiraled through the air, then land and shift into a badass pose, and think up a witty one-liner.
