Search.php is definitely in the upper end of the list and will appear if not in the next release (b4), then in b5. In the meantime, use Google and tack on site:board.acmlm.org for all searches you do.

Quick Reply has been proposed as one of many existing 'hacks' to be migrated into the code base. We still have to make up our mind about which hacks are the most important to transfer.

I may have spotted a bug,I always have it so its set to my time(-2 from server) and after the update, I noticed that the time is always a few (20 or 30 seconds) ahead, for example, I posted something a couple of minutes ago and it said it was posted at 1:50 and when I posted my computer clock said 1:49, so I look at my computer clock until it changes to 1:50 and it was about 25 seconds, this has never happened before the update....but it might just be this computer(weird coincidence if it is.)...if so disregard this post...

edit: actually, it did it for this post too, and its 1 minute behind, give or take a few seconds

It's exactly the same minute for me. Maybe Erk synced the time to a time server recently. I suggest you do the same if you have Windows XP - double click the clock in the lower right and look into the options in the Internet Time tab.

edit: nope, I synced with time.windows.com, and now its worse...it was almost 2 minutes off this time...oh well, its nothing major, I was just posting about it to see if there was something wrong, its not gonna hurt anyone.

I know! Best feature ever!

How about we link to the acs page?
Okay, I had another suggestion but the one above is worthwhile too

The suggestion is.... be able to put ACS on the postradar! Like, how far are you from the lead and how far are you (if you're in the lead) from the second place
Great huh? Yeah I know, I rule.

I love quickreply too, I've always liked that cuz I'm so lazy. BUT IT MIGHT PROMOTE SPAMMING SINCE YOU CAN POST SO QUICKLY!!11

the answer to posting so quickly and spamming would be to make it so you have to wait a certain amount of time before being able post again...15 or so seconds maybe...or whatever time works.

Dcahrakos, the time on your posts depends on the server's time, not your computer's. Otherwise, there'll probably be people making it look like they're posting from 1970 or 2032 all the time.

No posting limits will be added, and in fact one that we did have but noone never hit has already been removed at the development board. Erk described it as 'babysitting our users' which is correct, If you do, say, 20 or 30 posts in the same thread with no content, you're going to be banned or atleast warned either way.

yeah Dhrackos your clock is just wrong.....

And we definitely need to make Searching so it doesn't uber rape.....

I played around with my search.php for a bit....

doing stuff like putting time limits on search and whatnot.....

so like by default a search only pulls the last 2 months of post data...

but if you NEED to you can increase it to like 6 months or something.....

and then Full Mods and up can do a full DB Search or something like that

the RSS Feeds are likely to be the only feature that will get hotfixed along the way, or before we do an actual new release.....

the content spit out by the RSS feeds is going to be greatly reduced and used more as a reporting system, for you people that are too retarted to just use a friggin e-mail and the shiny NEW Icons the board puts everywhere.....

I use it to notify me when I'm, you know, NOT HERE. You see, a little indicator pops up when there's a new addition to the feed, so I know what's going on.

I would, however, like to see the obituary of your parents. Obviously, an RSS feed killing them has taken an effect on you.

Well, given that we're not ON the old server anymore, we should look into search.php. After all, Erk can figure out easily how much bandwidth can be saved.

We talked about notification vs reading the other night. My take is that eventually we should offer an RSS 2.0 feed with only the information needed for correct notification - most likely thread name and number of posts, and an Atom feed with full posts. After all, users use feeds for either notification or some kind of big information database - even Gmail has feeds for the mail you recieve! - and I think it's possible to accomodate both crowds.

The ones wanting notification will get that and only that - disabling the "useless waste of bandwidth and resources". With that taken care of, do you have any other arguments as to why there should be no "full content" feeds other than personal taste?
I'd like to add to this: For all I see, the thread feeds are lighter than their the thread pages both in size and with database access. We don't have any ads of some sort on the actual page, and so all the full thread feeds will do is make it easier for the users that want them and saving you bandwidth overall.

You pretty much just confirmed that you're having a problem with the way most people use RSS by repeating your stated position without a change of argument. That doesn't mean they should all change their ways. That means we should change our system to accomodate their wishes - atleast it means that I should, because I want to. If there's dogma between you and full content feeds being available, or betwen you and some people not wanting to use the email notification we'll be offering them - which is in their full right - that's not my problem, nor is it the members' problems, and as such it shouldn't affect them. Calling people retards because you think we should use a different way isn't going to solve anything.

Search.php wasted CPU time not bandwidth.

The best thing would be buying Google's search system which they actually sells, but that one is so expensive. And sure searching site:board.acmlm.org works but it wields so few results...

I'm waiting eagerly for the next release becuse it's finally time for profit and editpoll.php. xP
