You have just turned me to the light of RSS. It is the way.

Great job with the latest updates. Now, I'm off to add more feeds.

Feedy feedy feed.

Some of the rss feeds aren't valid in Thunderbird. Don't they have to have a .rdf?
Uh, nevermind that. rss and everything else seems to work nicely

I like the version history, I'm still a little confused about the RSS feed, but Ill learn.

I'm looking forward to the next update as well, sounds interesting.

I really would like one thing, though... An update to the colour schemes! The board is becoming more up to date, and
it looks exactly the same as it did three years ago.
We need a fresh lick of paint!

One other thing... I'm getting page render times of up to 70secs... Anyone else getting that?

Well, it was about ten minutes ago. If it was still happening I wouldn't be able to post

Also, the links aren't working for me in the RSS feed. They point to
http://board.acmlm.org/%22http://board.acmlm.org/thread.php?id=7243&ppp=20&page=0%22

for me.

I'm using Thunderbird.

Yeah, Erk's going to upload my fix to a related error later on. Hopefully it'll be fixed by then.

Yeah that happened. That just means you cant view the page in Thunderbird. you have to open the browser. Which sucks because thats the beuty of thunderbird. Well, looks like Jesper's posting. He'll likely sort this.

Edit: link. to avoid table stretch.

Edit again: well, Jesper got around to his post before me.

no DarkSlaya thanks for noticing all you did, we needed to fix that stuff....

as far as the RSS Feeds....

they will change drastically....

the RSS Feeds should be used as an alternitive method of subscription besides e-mails....

they should not allow you to be reading forums and threads in your news reader instead of online.....

based simply on the fact, most people will use them for notification only, and it will be a useless waste of bandwidth and resources.

Also, the forum feed in it's current state doesn't work quite right....

once a thread appears in your news reader it doesn't get "bumped" if the feed moves it to the top, so we will have to put a unique identifier on each thread like thread (# of posts) or something like that or maybe Thread Name Posts / Views

that would always be unique....

but yeah.....

No offense, Erk, but this is why I coded this feature.

The unique identifier thing is way off. The reader will just add a new item, so after fifty reloads of the feed, you'll have 50*number of threads per feed items.

We talked about notification vs reading the other night. My take is that eventually we should offer an RSS 2.0 feed with only the information needed for correct notification - most likely thread name and number of posts, and an Atom feed with full posts. After all, users use feeds for either notification or some kind of big information database - even Gmail has feeds for the mail you recieve! - and I think it's possible to accomodate both crowds.

The ones wanting notification will get that and only that - disabling the "useless waste of bandwidth and resources". With that taken care of, do you have any other arguments as to why there should be no "full content" feeds other than personal taste?

I've tried a number of RSS, RDF, and Atom readers. None of them can parse your RSS feed. All of them worked with things like Slashdot.

Try using SharpReader. It's what I use, and it works fine with /., this, and Leo Laporte's blog.

This new version should've been called 1.93SP3.

I'm still enjoying PMs, and already have a good use of locking some layouts.

Hm. Forum feeds are valid, however thread feeds fail because I accidently made the code use the htmlentities function, which translates some characters such as

Ugh... Do *NOT* use SP in any build name for any piece of software. The current "beta" system is so classic.

Nice that there is a list of people you have blocked in the Edit profile. Otherwise I would be clueless about which ones I have blocked.

RSS feed is a intresting feature that I probably won't use... for this board. It's useful for people who aren't visiting this board as frequently. At least when it comes to threads. (one reason, i'm not using Thunderbird as main e-mail reader yet... if I got a few more mails then maybe :/)
