This part isnt the brainteaser, but a fun part of it. Think of a number between 1 and 10. Double it and add 5. Multiply the result by 50, then add 1754. If you havent had your birthday this year, add one. Now subtract the four-digit year you were born. If you've done it all correctly, you should have a 3-digit number; the first digit was your original number, and the other two are your age.

Now this is the calculation: what is the formula to get this right for almost any case, and why? And in which cases will it not be correct?

X
2X + 5
100X + 250
100X + 2004
100X + 16

That's too simple... By the way... In 2005, you have to add 1755 instead of 1754.

That was amazing... my math teacher has just played that trick on us! Heres another one (I hope you dont mind me posting it here)

1) Think of any number (this means ANY number. Me and my mate checked about 700 different numbers including negatives, decimals, whole numbers, the lot... they all worked!)
2) Add 7
3) Double the answer
4) Minus 4
5) Half the answer
6) Take away the number you started with

The answer is always 5! Here are some examples:::

Start number= 3
3+7=10
10x2=20
20-4=16
16/2=8
8-3=5!

Start number= -6
(-6)+7=1
1x2=2
2-4=-2
(-2)/2=-1
(-1)+(-6)=(-1)+6=5!

Start number= 2.294
2.294+7=9.294
9.294x2=18.588
18.588-4=14.588
14.588/2=7.294
7.294-2.294=5!

See? It always works!!!

X
X+7
2X+14
2X+10
X+5
5
Not very complicated either.

edit: Dang it Smallhacker, I spent too much time making this darn gif and you beat me to answering! Well, I'll post it anyway, since I took the time to make it and everything...

Let x = any number

As you can see, the reason you always get 5 is because you always subtract the number you started with at the end.

Reshaper, how the heck did you make a transparent GIF? That's as good a brain teaser as anything else in these threads!

May drawing programs can do that. (Older versions of Paint could as well, but not the newer ones for some reason...)

Smallhacker, I feel like I'm following you around or something -- I've posted after you the last three times I think. It's not on purpose, I promise.

Actually I just googled transparent gif and found http://www.gifworks.com/. It's a webpage that'll fix your gifs anyway you want. I wish I had a program on my own computer that would do it though, that would be less of a hassle.
