Linksys Cisco RV042 10/100Mbps 4-Port VPN Cable / DSL Router

http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?grid=34&scid=29&prid=624

This is hands down the most godly router a person can own, that's affordable

It was 380 bucks.

I can create 50 VPN Tunnels.

SNMP Reporting

I can put 7 Cable modems on it if I want and have it load balance 7 internet connections for my personal use.

It of course will work with only 1 Cable modem...

it has an SPI Firewall... all kinds of other crazy stuff...

read the Product Spec Sheet if you wanna know the full details.

This being said, If any of you have VPN Capable Routers we could setup VPN Tunnels. Or if you only have 1 PC in your house and it's running Windows 2000 or XP it will support a VPN Tunnel Natively.

This basically allows us to use windows networking between our houses, and play network games and stuff like that.

Yaaay!!

I have no funky network equipment... well, unless you count a large antenna on my roof, and a Linux box on the floor.

I wish we could start using decent routers at schools around here, a few of them have been weirding out lately.

Do you think it supports OpenVPN (it's on sourceforge)? Or does it just support everything? I've used VPN before, it's great for playing network games when you don't have a cdkey

I would imagine it probably does I know it supports all standard IPSev VPN Connections

is Open VPN a standard IPSec VPN Connection ??

as far as Windows 2000 and Windows XP

they support VPN Connections natively

Odd thing is, I actually understand 1/4 of what is being said in this thread

Well, my router, although ancient, still works after my connection was knocked out by a lightning bolt. For that reason, it shall never be thrown away.

...i'm quite sure that my router is not supporting VPN, however I probably could set my router so one computer will work with VPN. (two of my computers works with VPN, becuse one is 2000 and the other one XP)

My router is crap, randomly stops working sometimes. Maybe gotta buy a new one someday...

My network consists of three computers, we had four connected before my sister moved. I do have two other computers that is currently monitorless and is not connected at all.

Anyone here who would like to apply to join the VPN Network is welcome to. The requirements are as follows.

If you have more than one PC you want on the VPN you must own a VPN Router capable of at least 10 VPN Tunnels for future expansion....

If you only have one PC, then you can simply create a VPN Tunnel to each VPN Site and then you will be connected to each VPN.

Jizuko, would you be up for doing some experimenting with me later ??

I want to see how the network reacts to a single client being connected to two VPNs.... because in theory....

If I'm VPN Site A... and my friend is VPN Site B

If you connect to VPN Site A .. you can communicate with VPN Site B and vice versa...

but if you are connected to VPN Site A... to communicate with VPN Site B you have to use my bandwidth and resources. And likewise if VPN Site B wants to communicate with You it uses my bandwidth and resources.

In the case of a full VPN Site, I know it should work fine to just link A to B an C ... B to C and A... and C to A and B....

but I'm not sure what might happen if you link a single client to more than one VPN. So I'd like to test that out if you don't mind.

Because basically what you are doing in that case is putting your computer on the VPN Twice.

You would have an IP Address from Site A and an address from Site B.

Technically all broadcast traffic is forwarded between Site A and B over the VPN, that's what makes it a VPN...

so if you were connected to us for example on Site A and Site B.... and I created a network game.... in theory you would want your computer to connect directly to me over that VPN Tunnel. HOWEVER.... in practice since you can essentially see my computer on BOTH the VPN Tunnels you have established.... it may turn out that you actually would need a full VPN Site in order to achieve the desired operability.

I welcome anyone else familiar with VPNs at all to help me test things too.
