the courses/paths will always exist. There are an infinite amount of static paths. The walker's decisions deligate which paths are open and closed, and which path will be the one upon which he or she treads.

the walker choses the path.

and also for clarification (might effect my answer) are "path and walker" synonyms for "Fate and Freewill" in the philosophical sense?

The path can choose the walker, but ultimately the walker chooses the path if he wishes to do so.

That's how it is in my book anyway.

Hmmm, I wonder what Anya has to say about this. I know she spends a lot of time thinking about subjects like this. It's always interested me.

"There are an infinite amount of static paths."

Ohhhh yeah. I often wonder what would have happened it I went a completly different path. It's not like I want a better outcome in my life, or want to change anything that happened, I just want to know out of sheer curiosity. It bugs me a lot that I'll never know.

I went ahead and selected the path chooses the walker. I did not take it in the sense of fate vs. freewill though, but in the context of one of my favorite poems. To me, yes a walker "chooses" the path in the literal sense, but something about that path calls to the walker. Whether it is which side it's on, the scenery, uphill/downhill...the path chooses the walker in that it speaks to something in the walker's heart or mind, perhaps even soul. Without literally speaking, it says, "Hey that guy right there looks like he'd enjoy this one, come on down here." At least, in my opinion that's how it works.

Fate and/or Freewill is the main point of the metaphor.

Let see, is free will a illusion or not? I don't really belive in fate, more like in the chaos theory. *votes for the walker*

...the "path" would only decide if the walker was competly clueless.

I always thought the walker chose the path.

Every action you take always closes many paths, but opens up room for new ones

As said before, while the content of the path may allure, the ultimate choice, I believe, lies with the walker itself.

That is, if this implies what I think it does.

Not really sure if my two bits count. I personally think that the walker chooses the path. When someone makes a decision in life, the path may split, so the theory of infinite paths could be somewhat accurate. But in the end, the path, is the one that you choose, and make through your decisions, and choices.

While society may tell people what to think, how to act, and what is generally acceptable, it is up to the "single" person, nobody else, to make the choice of path, not the path the choice of its walker.

Oh boy, philosophy, the never ending discussion that always brings about 100 more questions than answers. Anyways, i'd say that neither chooses the other. It is determined through physics, brain states, and mental states that the walker will go down the path he does. In fact, there really is no choice because there is no way to have done differently than you would have done. If you really think about that, it is quite impossible, because there is no way to to this and there is no reason to do otherwise. If everything is predetermined by the mental orientation and physical orientation of everything in the world, then even if you truly had free will, you would still go the same way because it is what you desire to do. Therefore, i go with fate, or more determinism, because you are determined to do what you do, but this is still free because it allows you to do what you would do if you actually had the choice, because there is no logic in choosing the choice that you do not desire.

I know, confusing, but isn't all philosophy confusing. Philosophy has got to be the best class i have in college right now, it's crazy interesting, and crazy confusing.

Nice poll. The two things may happen. The walker can choose the path of course. If he want to go home and he must to be quickly, he will choose an shortcut, or no if the street have bandits or somethings like that. In this case, this "walker" should prioritize his security, but he can get tired, so there is two options.

The path can choose a walker because an worker have created it, like an father and son. This path can choose who will cross it, because, in this case, it is an creature that lives. If it lives the people should respect it, like a friend, because without it, no one will can cross easily to the home or any place."
