I use 800x600

I'm just used to it more. That, and other people who use the PC start whining if I change it

I use 1024x768. I can use 800x600, but it looks like crap on my laptop.

Thank you, Eds, for posting that for me. Yes, I said, "The one you use most often" for a REASON .

It's very sad that people MUST use 800x600 still, I thought monitor technology had progressed in the last 10 years

That's the thing I like(d) about Win 98... it saved the resolution with the logon so they don't whine when you use a diffrent one... XP doesn't seem to do that

I use 1024x768 here, but the 300+ RM computers at the school all run 800x600.

I still think 800x600 should be the standard, though, because not everyone has the cash to afford a larger monitor (in terms of 1024x768 looking reasonable, that is - 17" seems to be the best for that)

What about using both equally, or such?

I use 1024x768, since my graphics card only supports that and 800x600, and 800x600 is waaay too big,

1024x768, since to me anything larger is too small, and anything smaller is too large.

I use 1024x768... I would use higher to tell you the truth... But my monitor doesn't have a high enough frequency setting, and just screws up...

Avardo: Hardware limitation is the reason most people only run 1024x768 or 1152x864 (if you get a real video card, opposed to onboard shit, you can set it to not hide modes it cannot display, most 15" that can do 1024x768 @ 60Hz do 1152x864).

My current res. is (non-standard) 1152x864 32-bit color at 85Hz, I can go up to 1600x1200 32-bit color 60Hz if I wanted to, but for some strange reason my Gateway VX700 monitor also can use 1920x1080 32-bit color, seriously.

But I'll probably switch to 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 as my main res. if I start to lack more screen space for all of my windows.

I always use 1024x768x32. I can do higher, but I'm most confortable there.

Is an MSI Nvidia Geforce FX5200 128mb graphics card good enough for yeh?...

It's my monitor that's the problem... It's a pre-1995 model :-/...

I mostly use 800x600, but only, ONLY because the other members of my family are either used to it, or in my dad's case, just have a hard time reading everything at a higher resolution. (Icon labels, web pages, etc.)

But it takes me a grand total of two seconds to switch between that one and 1024x768, which is what I prefer. I do a lot of work on webages and in Adobe Photoshop - that resolution gives me more room to move menus and files around.

So basically - either one of the two resolutions I mentioned would be fine.

Hm, what should I answer?

I use a resolution of 2048 x 768 (2 monitors)... But my IE windows are in only 1 screen, so I could answer 1024 x 768, but I could also answer 1600 x 1200 or higher

This only really deals with the width if your IE screen. Since you're going to end up vertically scrolling to read 99% of the threads anyways, there's no reason to put a really strict limit on your layout's vertical size. (Obvious exceptions for jerkoffs who make thier layouts ridiculously long)

1024x768 @ 60Hz - I have a 19" monitor but I'm comfortable with this for now. Plus on higher frequencies my monitor tends to buzz.

1024x768 @72 hz (60 tend to buzz for me and it's annoying) on a 15" monitor

although i can change the resolution to higher with the video card (all those weird 2000s), but the monitor just doesn't like it (nothing comes up, blank black screen, wait 15 secs, change back to before.)
