I found this funny when I was using IE to visit a site:

IE Rejected

I'm curious, have any of have seen such a thing where you were denied access because you were using IE? Luckily, I had mozilla lying around

That's not the only site that does that... I know of a few that reject IE (as well as other-browser rejectors).

I used to block IE users back when I had an actual site. Then, when I was toying with XHTML and CSS I discovered IE doesn't render those things properly anyway (where as all other browsers do, except for Lynx)... so, I put a friendly message at the bottom: "If you don't think this site looks right, you're probably using IE. Get something else like Mozilla or Konqueror."

If I designed a homepage, I would just say made for W3C. Which Mozilla Firefox pretty much follows.

The browser wars all over again, I remember when there was alot of "Designed for Netscape" "Designed for IE" buttons but no "Designed for W3C" one. -.-;

I don't like IE, but I don't believe that you should block access to a site from IE either.

I believe that a good web designer builds their site for all browsers. They can put a "this page designed and tested in {browser}" thing, that I don't mind, (perhaps enough of these will convince other users to try Opera/Firefox/Mozilla/etc/etc/etc) but I would never block access or design a site to the standards of one particular browser.

I wonder how many potential viewers they lost from saying "screw this" instead of finding another browser to use.

Randomly, I presume Microsoft still prevents you from going to the Windows Update page with anything but IE?

No. You can still go to the Windows Update site and download updates with any browser on any operating system. Unless you want the ActiveX one that installs from inside the browser.

Never tried it...but that'd be kinda dumb. :\ So I don't think they'd do that.

I agree with Taryn over there. However, it really pisses me off when IE has all sorts of exceptions that don't comply with the w3c standards. When a page may look nice in a browser like firefox lets say, it could be shitted up in IE. yeah, annoying it is.

For some reason (probably due to this thread), I just downloaded Firefox. It's on my desktop ready to be installed.
