FuSoYa shood add suport for an mw state to be opened by LM as an rom with one level. This way it is easyer to extract the gfx, the map16 and the custom palette, since manualy can take some time!

Firstly, displaying an entire level from a savestate wouldn't be possible. It'd only display a small portion of the area. (Eg, the screen area of when the savestate was recorded)

Secondly, do you really think fusoya would create a feature in LM that allowed newbies and idiots to rip off other people's GFX and backgounds with ease?

...I dont think so, somehow...

Actually, displaying an entire Level from a Save State is very possible. Save States have the ENTIRE Level Layout stored in them.

...ummm... no. I don't think so. This is just another excuse to try and rip graphics. If it is done, then everything will start to look the same or someone will rip from a locked hack and claim the graphics as their own, causing flame wars and half the SMW hackers to be banned as a result.

No, no, no, no, and no. If you want to rip graphics from other's hacks, ask them politely. If they say no, get over it. If they say yes, well...

Do it right. Ask first.

If someone really wanted to, they could rip graphics from anything they can see, but there is no reason why you should make it easier for them, then there'd be a ton of them claiming stolen graphics as their own.

That is the reason why there should not be a utility that does this. Once graphics are stolen and claimed as someone elses, there will be a flame war and the flamers would get banned. Anyone remember when someone stole the Yoshi's Paradise level (I beileve it was before the board crash...)? The people who made these hacks worked hard to make these graphics right and by you stealing them is just pitiful. If you want to have good graphics, try making your own. If you want to use the graphics from another hack, ask first. Simple, easier, and ban-proof.

Um...what?

I don't quite understand that, but if you're trying to copy a level layout from a save state, forget it. Levels in the ROM are stored in an object-based format, whereas levels in RAM/save states are stored as a fully constructed array of Map16 blocks. I suppose you could convert each Map16 block into a Direct Map16 Access object, but you really don't want to do that.

Completely useless and an insult if you'd ask me.
If that was created, it would destroy our motivation to make better hacks; therefore, SMW hackers would die off quickly.

I think you are all being quite alarmist. First off, if someone commits plagiarism, then that person will have to answer to this community and sometimes the law. Second, just about anybody with enough research and cracking abilities can get around FuSoYa's lock. One could simply log the ASM as an emulator executes the hack. Third, there are a lot of honest people on these boards, and they wouldn't rip graphics and try to pass them off as their own. Fourth, one would simply have to make a case that a person is committing plagiarism, and since the pace at which hacks would be developed would be not too much different than now, there would not be a heavy occurence of this. Believe it or not, people do like using their own stuff. Fifth, it would be stupid for someone to refuse to make hacks because of a threat of plagiarism that's existed from the start. Isn't it supposed to be a fun exercise? Sixth, last but not least, how are you guys going to stop something like this from coming out? Are you going to try to get a law passed banning it? Are you going to hack and mess up websites that put these up? The most you guys could do legally is a boycott of the sites that put the program, but that won't stop those who want and like the program from getting it. Of course, if someone plagiarizes a hack, then legal action could be taken.

Actually, ripping from locked hacks can be done already...I don't do it and wont tell how, but it can be done, I've opened locked hacks before.

So, I hacked around MARIOWORLD ZSNES SAVE STATE format for like 20 minutes and came up with this:

- the mw3 level palette it's stored at: 618h - 81Ah
- the BG Image data it's stored at: C513h - C872h
- the BGMAP16 data it's compressed;
- the FG-BG gfx (20C13h - 24C12h):
- FG1: 20C13 - 21C12
- FG2: 21C13 - 22C12
- BG1: 22C13 - 23C12
- FG3: 23C13 - 24C12
- the sprites gfx (2CC13h - 30C12h):
- SP1: 2CC13 - 2DC12
- SP2: 2DC13 - 2EC12
- SP3: 2EC13 - 2FC12
- SP4: 2FC13 - 30C12

Pls. verify if this is corect! If you know more about the MW state pls post
in this thread.
