I beat Emerald without even having KOTR. Think of the possibilites.

I beat Ruby with Cloud alone (basically have to beat it with one person). He wasn't that hard.

I beat them both.

Killed Emerald Weapon by double summoning KotR and then Miming it with my two other characters. Such an annoying fight because I had to watch the KotR animation over and over again..

I can't remember how I beat Ruby Weapon. I did it with just Cloud only because a FAQ had told me to use just one character. I can't remember what he was attacking with though.

Both Emerald and Ruby are not very hard to defeat. With strong magic and a good stratagy, anyone can do it. All it does it take a while, besides the time required, they are easy.

KotR + HP Absorb (Mastered)
Mime (Mastered) + Command Counter (Mastered)

Put a Ribbon on Cloud and you're set. Go into battle, cast KotR once, and go get a sandwich. Come back in half an hour and he's dead. Works for Emerald, too.

You know, instead of having to use KOTR + HP absorb, just equip 2 mastered Magic Plus Materia.

9999 everytime.

Pop Ruby with Hades. Then it gets oh-so-much eaiser.

My ticket was W-Summon Hades, the KOTR with HP-Abosrb paired to it, equipped with a ribbon, and just Mime from then on in.

n00b. Through some testing, I managed to figure out for myself a good strategy that doesn't use KotR.

First, build some stats up. Strength in the ruined reactor in Gongaga, and agility and luck in the small hallfway in Gelnika. Yuffie works best with the Conformer, Mega-All and Morph/Master Command. That's all you need really. Strength should take 1 hour per person, speed and luck about 1-2 hours per person. Now that stats are up...

Ruby: This is a somewhat evil strategy, and you'll never die, unless you make a mistake. Now not as high of damage as DLS's strategy, it's just as good. Equip as follows:
8 slotted weapons or ultimate weapon: 7x Counter Attack (yeah, the purple ones) and HP plus. (not really needed, but just to max HP out)
Imperial Guard, Mystile, or Wizard Bangle: Magic Counter - Hades, Master Summon, Double Cut, Restore and Time or Master Magic. Equip a Ribbon. Enter battle with the other two dead, cast Haste. Now let him hit you. If his attack was HP based, cast Regen, if MP based, use a Turbo Ether. You have 4 free rounds to beat him down. I used physical attacks, cause KotR is lame. After four rounds (or until he starts moving again) stop attacking. Repeat until Ruby is dead.

Emerald: Ultimate Weapons or really high strength (200 range is good). You only need 5 materia: Double Cut, Long Range, Enemy Skill, Master Magic - All. Start by using Big Guard. Whoever he hits with Emerald Beam, cast Curaga (Cure3). Hopefully he didn't do 7000+ damage. Otherwise use White Wind. He can be killed very quickly. My fastest time was 4:45. (That's time spent, not left.)

Sorry about the initial response, but I hope this helps.

Not bad at all, even though I used KOTR to beat Ruby, I admit it is a very cheap tactic, and get's very old very fast. Although I didn't even have KOTR during the fight with Emerald. Saying you beat him under 5 minutes, well that tells me my strategy was obviousily not very good. I had Fury over Cloud, and mainly relied on Omnislash in place of not having KOTR. I aslo did the Quadra Magic + Gravity trick to nail 9,999 damage 4 times to him. Really having 4x cut with 230 or so plus stats for attack is good too, you'll usually hit anyone with 9,999 damage 4 times, also what I had.

another nifty trick is to start the battle with 7777 hp with full limit brak and use ominslash, you will do 7777 all 13 times, that knocks a crap load of hp out of him, then use the notr tand mine tec

Lucky 7's. Isn't it basically impossible to correctly get someones HP at that though? (7,777)

And Omnislash attacks a lot more than 13 times.
And I've heard when you have Lucky 7's, you don't stop attacking until whoever your attacking is no more.

Keep each of your people with 2 pieces of Materia against Emerald, and maxed-out HP. That Aire Tam Storm does 1,111 for each piece of materia equipped (Aire Tam -> maT eriA -> materia).

I've beaten Emerald. It's weird, people say Emerald is the hardest of the two, yet I thought Ruby was way harder, since I never beat him.
