Two part thread.

What are your feelings on the Shroud of Turin? If you don't know, then google it. It's pretty interesting stuff. And the possibilities....

Some say that is the real cloth that was wrapped around the bloody body of Jesus when he was buried in the tomb. (You know, the one with the rock.)

And others, myself included, believe what other scientists have said. That it is a medieval forgery created in the 14th or 15th century (I think) and that the blood on it was pigment. Basically, just art work meant to decieve people. You'll always have people who say carbon dating is inaccurate though. I think it was maybe 50 years ago, but not in todays world.

But let's just assume it is real. What if it was the real blood of Christ? (Doesn't matter if he really was the son of god or just an ordinary guy who people thought was a prophet.) What that means is that we could eventually clone Jesus Christ because we would have his DNA.

Wouldn't that be freaky? Imagine if we went through with it. There would be a RAGE coming from certain people. It would be very very interesting to say th every least.

Fake or not, the pictures are interesting.

The full shroud.
A negative of the shroud.
Facial close-up.
Negative of the same facial close up.

I remember reading about this last year when I was on home during vacation. Then I forgot about it when I came back here. I'm going to study it some more because it's pretty fascinating stuff. Even more so if it isn't fake.

Now I said I believe it's fake, but I haven't done a whole lot of research on it. Just basic stuff. If anyone has any good points or facts to proove my view wrong, then go right ahead and try to do so. It would be pretty awesome if it was real.

Doesn't really matter if there is a God or not or if Jesus was what Christians make him out to be or not. Chances are that a man named Jesus Christ did exist during that time period and had a huge impact on people and the world to this very day. And if something like this was in fact real, then cool.

Almost forgot the sub topic. Assuming we had the dna of Jesus Christ, would you be for or against trying to make a clone of him? (Assuming we could do that.) And explain what you think of the whole concept.

Your answer is due by Friday. No double space and spell checked. looool

The clone: I wouldn't care either way. The environment today is so different that Mr. Christ wouldn't turn out the same at all as he may have been back in the day. Maybe if we let his hair grow out we could see how accurate the various paintings are. That's probably about it.

Unless there is something to the whole "son of god" theory, in which case his clone would have awesome holy powers, or be an abomination that would bring forth great wrath. Either one of those would at least clear up a lot of questions. =o

I was wondering about the powers and all. If the Christians are indeed right about their beliefs, would cloning Jesus make it so that he retains the same powers he had before or would he just be a shell of what Jesus once was? Basically, a human who is him, but not really. That is to say, no powers. I'm going to have to say the latter because in cloning, we'd just be cloning the shell and what it was, flesh and bone. We can't actually clone spiritual powers.

Yeah. So either way, it would just leave most questions unanswered. Though it would make well-known the actual color of his skin, which is a topic much discussed among various rap artists.

I say a Jesus clone for every house. Why you ask? Because he's fucking metal!

Seriously though, if the shroud turned out to be genuine, you probably wouldn't need to clone the big guy - there'd be enough holy wars going on that we would all be blown back to the stone age.

I'm not going to delve too deep into this, but I hope some of you know how I feel about this.

However, I will say that the whole cloning issue seemed a bit iffy to me (around people), and cloning Jesus would be a major league no no.

Heck, I'm a bit iffy around the whole Shroud thing to begin with. Not that it really matters anyway...

As per the cloning issue, I don't like it. Not only does it not register as "right" with me, it really doesn't "bring dead people back" like many people seem to think it does. If I understand this correctly, all cloning does is recreate all or most physical traits to a new body.

The trouble is, by this logic, the personality traits wouldn't cross over.

So, just imagine having a guy walking around who looks like Jesus, and he turns out to be a madman who nukes half the country. Not fun.

The point is, just because we have a guy who looks like him, doesn't make it him.

EDIT: I realized I more or less repeated what you just said, Legion.

It's interesting. You would see people who are devout Christians/Catholics complaining or against cloning Jesus, but for odd reasons, like it wasn't supposed to happen, but as all people know, Jesus wasn't born exactly on year 0. Now here it is, 4 years after 2000, the year that Jesus was supposed to come back.

Huh, so maybe we could have the second coming of Jesus and have, technically, a 'Virgin mother'. I'd like to watch what happens.

If you cloned him, I don't think that he would have all the powers the biblical Christ did have.

Like let's just say that the person we're cloning is JC, and he really could....damn. That wouldn't make sense, because you're just making a copy of him, so he would.

That would be pretty cool.

DITTO ON THAT ONE!

..yes, I said ditto. The concept of a second comming wouldn't necessarily be untrue at that point because Jesus (or his DNA equivalent) would in fact be alive. But I am more interested in the Demolition Man prophecy. the one that states Arnold Schwartzenegger will one day become president of the USA regaurdless of his non-american born origins. He's made it to govenor of California so far. small steps!

If you cloned him and it turned out his "powers" were not spiritual and were something that he could do with his body, you'd have some Akira-esque shit going on. Jesus2 would either be really nice or killing people left and right. I don't know if you could contain him as a child.

Alright, forgive me for the lame Star Wars reference here, but...

As I recall, in the most recently believed Star Wars mythology, the clones used in the Clone Wars were an abomination to the Force, artificial humans created outside the boundaries of the Force itself. Thus the force didn't really align with them, since they were created life. I guess we could think of Jesus being cloned, if you place any stock in religion at all, as the Clone Wars clones not having anything to do with the Force. Jesus wouldn't be THE son of God, just sorta a different one, so I'm going with the great wrath thing.

...but really, was Jesus powers Genitical?

Wait, wasn't it six years or eight years they got "year 0" wrong on? And who said that Jesus would come back in year 2000?
