Hey! I made a cool game! It's called "I poisoned half the food, so if you eat you might die!" Have a taco.

99% of the time, it would be far more accurate to say "you're wrong" or "even though you clearly have some knowledge in the area, you lack the knowledge of details required to make accurate statements in the area." Not terribly often does someone go in to an argument with no idea what they're arguing or why they're arguing...

I hate it when people say, "Oh, that band sucks" or "That painting sucks!"
Ok, junior. Make a band better than them and paint a better painting. THEN you can say they suck because you did better yourself. If you can't do better, you can say "I don't like it." Something simple. Just don't go around saying "It sucks" for everything.

I call logical fallacy. Just because the worst comedian in the world is worse than the second-worst comedian in the world doesn't mean that the second-worst comedian doesn't suck.

Also: movie critics probably couldn't make very good movies. Maybe you don't like movie critics (I don't), but since movies are made for the public in general, and not just better movie-makers, the public is perfectly free to judge them as sucky. That was just an example. The same goes for paintings and music.

1 days ago, my friend said I sucked at playing music in band (BTW, when you're the only trombone, you get no breaks from playing high...).

I told him to come back here and play it better... That shut him up pretty quickly.

So yeah, theres an example of whatever you call it.

My response to that is along the lines of "Maybe I'm not any better at the trombone, but that's why I'm not trying to play in a band in front of a crowd."

Not that you should always shy away from doing things in public if you don't think you're good at them. But don't expect everyone to like it just because they can't do it better.

I don't mind movie critics, but what I hate is when someone says that something suck, but without having a good reason to say so.

I get what your saying, but you totally misinterpreted it. I think. If you ARE the worst comedian in the world, you can't say to the second-worst comedian in the world that he sucks because you can't do better yourself. People say "You Suck" far too much.

By that same logic, the best comedian in the world can say that the second best comedian in the world sucks?

I just got back from a debate thing and I have to ask some things:

What is the signicance of this?

What would this possibly solve?

Oh, and I need to see some evidence.

Ok so if you can supply these three things I guess you win at least part of your argument. (Anyone that knows debate could BS their way through that and make themselves look intelligent...)

Well it's the same as saying 5\3=1.67. It's not quite accurate, but it's a lot easier to say than a slightly more accurate statement, and gets the same message across.

Jesus, I bet this whole thing is actually a rant about a comment BMF made in SMW hacking.

Yes, that certainly explains why I would wait awhile and post it elsewhere instead of simply telling him I think his choice of words is poor. And I bet that's the only time I've seen it use inappropriately, too. In fact, everything BMF does is exactly why I do what I do, and he never ever reminds me of things I was already planning on saying. I am utterly stunned by how you were so very correct about this.

Perhaps that is the case, or perhaps after being proven utterly wrong you make an additional pathetic attempt to anger the person you're talking with to make yourself seem more rational in comparison, thus making you seem to be correct in the eyes of others. In any case, you fail, again.

So... you think it is a good use of your time trying to seem more rational on this board? Right... And of course I'm correct. You wouldn't be complaining about this if you knew what you were talking about most of the time.

Hmmm... No. Attempting to make oneself seem more rational on a message board through one or two posts is a fruitless endeavor; I believe I was saying that to you earlier. As for the second one, truthfully, the only time I can actually recall someone seriously saying I don't know what I'm talking about is then... Well, knuck says it from time to time, but various things have prevented me from ever really taking knuck seriously. Take now, she somehow manages to mistake sarcasm for wit. You don't have to be witty to be sarcastic. Anyway... More to the point... As I previously stated you are wrong on the statement that I don't know what I'm talking about most of the time, however I will not deny that BMF saying that was one of the reasons for me posting that here. I hear it from time to time and it has bugged me, and him saying it to me reminded me that I was going to post it here. The other main reason was that I was in something of a mood for ranting anyway.
