I thought it would be great if we all could link to any on-site downloads or name what we have to possibly share with others via AIM or Soulseek and such like that. I say this because I've recently been taking video game soundtracks and ripping them to MP3s on my hard drive, and am finding it very convenient to listen to them all in iTunes. Video game music is a VERY legit and non-nerdy form of music, and there's so much of it I want to hear.

If any admins find it appropriate to put this in the Movies/TV/Entertainment forum, please, I urge you not to. More eyes will see it if it's posted here! This is where the board's video game fans collect. It's only appropriate to stay here.

Right! So some sites that may be interesting to some are listed below:

- Doom Depot
A site maintained by a guy I know, Elbryan42. Go to the Doom Music section and you'll be able to download his excellent quality rips of Aubrey Hodges' scores for DOOM 64 and the PlayStation version of DOOM. Hodges does a very ambient score (as opposed to Bobby Prince's original musical score - by the way, you can download those as MP3s too, originally available from Doomworld), and does a damn fine job of it. There are other downloads of other DOOM games on other platforms, so check it out.

- Kong in Concert
An OverClocked ReMix project of reinterpretations of music from the first Donkey Kong Country. I haven't heard it yet, but I'm downloading the torrent right now. (The torrent consists of WAVs. If you don't want WAVs, I'd suggest downloading the OGGs, which you can play in Winamp. OGGs are higher in sound quality but also take up less hard drive space than MP3s. [You can have OGGs the same file size as MP3s but of superior quality, or you can have the same quality but take up lesser space.] DOOM 3 uses the OGG format for all its audio, so if the revolutionary id Software is using it, then it must be good!) My buddy SnappleMan did a remix for this project, and he said it's a great album, so I'm downloading it for sure.

- Metroid Metal
Hell yeah! NES Metroid's music done in timeless metal fashion, all performed by my online acquaintance Stemage. Totally rad stuff, and I believe he intends to do the same with Metroid II and Super Metroid.

- The Castlevania Dungeon
Download all of the Castlevania soundtracks in the Media section.

- Contra HQ
Same as above, but of the Contra series. I suggest the Contra: Shattered Soldier OST (which I own the CD to), as well as the extended versions of select tracks. (The OST cut back on some of the songs.)

I can't think of anything else, but that's where the help of other people comes in.

As far as MP3s I have, I have the following soundtracks (albums with "redbook audio" by them in parantheses means the PC CD-ROM has just that and that's what I ripped from ):

- Actraiser Symphonic Suite (Yuzo Koshiro's score, symphony style!)
- American McGee's Alice (not just the game's files, but the superior rearranged soundtrack CD by Chris Vrenna )
- Castlevania: Lament of Innocence Limited Edition Music Sampler (CD that came with pre-order of the game, contains tracks from the game as well as arranged versions of some of the GBA tunes, as well as rehashed tracks from SOTN; whole CD by Michiru Yamane; I also have the extra tracks from the Japanese version of the CD, labeled "Another Story", though I think those are available from The CV Dungeon [linked above])
- Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun Soundtrack (actual CD that came with the game)
- Descent II (redbook audio)
- Descent II: The Infinite Abyss; or, The Definitive Collection [disc 2] (redbook audio) - Windows Media Player labels this as The Moonblower EP, which is weird... I wonder where that came from. Anyway, I'm missing the very last track because my CD is scratched to hell.
- Descent II: Vertigo Series; or, The Definitive Collection [disc 3] (redbook audio) - One of the tracks on my CD skips, not sure which one... It'd be nice if someone who has these CDs could contact me.
- Diablo (Matt Uelmen's freakish score; I have it as WAVs)
- Diablo II + Bonus Tracks + Expansion: Lord of Destruction (Matt Uelmen's score, released as MP3s from Blizzard)
- Final Fantasy VII Sound Track (Nobuo Uematsu's score, across 4 CDs!)
- Hexen (redbook audio) - Kevin Schilder's MIDI score.
- James Bond: Tomorrow Never Dies OST (not a very interesting one, but maybe some are interested. Sonic Mayhem's rendition of the Bond theme is REAL KILLER!)
- Killer Instinct: Killer Cuts (the CD that came with the game soooo many years ago)
- The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Soundtrack (Koji Kondo's score, 2 CDs, came with a purchase of the game + subscription to Nintendo Power if I remember)
- MechWarrior 2 + Expansion: Ghost Bear's Legacy + MW2: Mercenaries (redbook audio) - Can't remember the name of the guy who did these scores... Can anyone help?
- Quake (redbook audio) - The ambient score by Nine Inch Nails.
- Quake II (redbook audio) - The metal score, mostly by Sonic Mayhem.
- Quake 3 Arena: Noise (soundtrack CD release, techno/metal music by Sonic Mayhem, music from and inspired by QIIIA; this CD does not contain any of the material Front Line Assembly did for the game)
- Silent Hill 3 Official Soundtrack (CD that came with SH3 of Akira Yamaoka's score)
- Silent Hill 4: The Room Limited Edition Soundtrack (US-exclusive CD that came with pre-order of the game)

Right! Things I am currently LOOKING for are THESE (and I'd like all MP3s at preferrably 160 kbps, though 128 works too; send OGG files if you like):

- Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2 OSTs (the CDs released by Nintendo, I believe the DKC1 one is called DK Jamz! or something.)
- Conker's Bad Fur Day (Rare's website had MP3s for download long ago, and I downloaded them all...but erased most of them! Please send them )
- Eternal Darkness OST (Nintendo Power was selling a CD a while ago THAT I STUPIDLY NEVER GOT AROUND TO ORDERING! I want it.)
- Perfect Dark OST (there was a 2-CD set released years back, anyone got it?)
- Silent Hill 1 and 2 OSTs (the actual CD releases, please)
- Super Smash Bros. Melee (hopefully there are files recorded from the sound test in the game)

By the way, if you don't have the complete albums, don't bother. (Unless, say, you're only missing a couple tracks.)

Now, this whole business has potential to get real crazy real fast... Possibly, maybe? I don't want tons of people flooding me with requests for downloads, so I'll deny people if I see fit. I hope that's not a stupid, jerk-off thing to do or say, but please understand. Hopefully it won't get maddening though.

Right! So there ya 'ave it.

Meh. I prefer owning original copies of albums, having the CD cases and insert covers, for instance with my FF OST's you get nice artwork from Amano...

You can't buy some of those, like Metroid Metal for example. And most of the songs on my computer I already own the actual album. I just like having them in one central place so I don't have to switch cds all the time. It's all about efficiency. But yeah, you're right about having the case, book, etc. It's just better that way.

Oh, and kick ass post AbnormalFreak. Great stuff there.

Problem is, a lot of the stuff is out of print and will often cost mad amounts of cash. And then there's the price of imports, and the fear of bumping into crappy bootlegs. And right now, I'm focusing on what I'd like to hear...not what I'd like to feel and look at. It'd certainly be nice to own certain things though.

One of those (Kong in Concert) I know was a series that played off of OC Remixes. Sort of like Relics of the Chozo for the Metroid series. Yea, there's quite a few people that are into or support the music re-arrangement communities for VG Music. Even actual game music artists themselves (i.e. Jeremy Soule, see Final Fantasy 6 Squaresoft Variation) go for what some of these people have done in the past few years.

I browse around there from time to time, picking up whatever. Got about 100 songs over the past few years of which the majority I've played through quite a few times.

See...now I've got that Squaresoft Variation going...damn you guys.

I once made a CD out of Ripped MP3s from SSBM (Soundtest) and have now a nice 3 CD Pack with the OST and the Concert.
Still have the MP3's tough. But iTunes fucked all names up.

OC Remix is incredible. My favorite artist/DJ by far is Protricity, his stand alone Megaman X compeletion is just amazing. Not too mention he did most of the work on the Relics of Chozo, which like all of his other work ... frigging rocks.

Also Hiryuu you could pick up their torrent package ...

Only two and you'll get the entire 1,000 set. But maybe your like me, and already have them all and are just picking up the new ones that aren't in it?

I still haven't heard DKC Kong in Conert, but most of the mixes of DKC off of OC are really good, so I'm sure it's something I need too hear.

And Abnormal Freak you know Grant? (Stem) Maybe I've seen you around there ... anyways, all his Metroid Metal work is great, and I can't wait too see what else he has in store for his musical powers.

I've also known about the Doom Depot, really nice site giving you basically every song from all the Doom games there.

Videogame Music > Non-Videogame music my friends.

I realize that. But I only get what I want at any given time.
