| Well, it's because you're just rushing things a bit, it took me about two years to make good progress on my first couple hacks (and I only stuck with one out of my first couple hacks, and now I'm starting even another one before fininshing that one). Just spend a lot of time with it, and you'll be as good as me in some time, and I'm not just saying that too be nice, I'm serious,... but you'll have to spend a lot of time with it, and try to figure things out as much as you can and only ask for help when you need it most (it gives you more experience that way). But please don't get discuraged, that will only keep you from being good. I had to figure everything out on my own, and that's why I turned out to be pretty much the best (because I spent the most time with it, and I've figured things out that nobody's thought of yet,... so there were somethings that I couldn't even ask for help with if I wanted to) (edited by Atma X on 09-24-04 12:25 AM) (edited by Atma X on 09-25-04 01:15 PM) |

Oh sorry, I mostly meant that I was the Best when it came to Gfx (I only say that because I've never really seen anyone produce their own Graphics [at least of good quality] and insert it in an Smw Rom, and I've been able to explain some things in the past that nobody else was able to  )I've also learned everything in Lunar Magic (except for a couple odd things), but just so you guys know, I wasn't meaning to delcare myself the Ubber (is that spelled right?) SMW Champion (ASM is still a major thing that I am not very familiar with, but I'll get around to that sometime later ).But anyway, thanks Kyouji, even though we've had some crazy times in the past, I've come to respect you too. Well, I guess it's time I document tutorials on Lunar Magic, Graphics editing, Overworld editiing, etc (I even plan to use some pictures to show what I will be describing, and that'll also help to cut down on some of the reading, so hopefully it won't seem overwhelming in that sense  ).(edited by Atma X on 09-24-04 01:57 AM) |

| Atma is amazing at graphics. He had the most amazing Demons Crest tree set I have EVER seen!! He also had MANY more amazing ones!! Anyway, if you take your time you will get good at this. When I started my very first hack (never released/ never finished) I used to put things like pirana plants floating in the air. And pipes in water which makes that ugly line against the side. I eventually relized this was soemthing that shouldn't be done. Now I have (IMO) a very good hack with some sweet GFX! |

| It's a far cry between ripping tilesets well (which isn't hard at all, if you know the basics of a tile editor) and designing your own. I wouldn't say I'm the best, but I have yet to even see another hack that has tried for a total conversion by hand besides Sunny Side World (which, of course, has rips as well, but it is all done well, so we'll let it slide, eh?). It doesn't even take a talented artist--God knows I'm not even close to being one--just perserverance. If you're willing to take the time, you can produce results like the best of the biz. | |||

What do you suck at? What do you need help understanding? Do you know how many people are willing to help you out? Quite a few. There are excellent SMW hackers here, and some not so excellent SMW hackers, but all have at least something in common. They ALL are willing to give themselves a break when at first they don't succeed. If they fail at something, they don't quit and move on. They stay, and try harder untill they get it right. Giving up is no way to go. I've witnessed some of the lowliest hackers come from "where do I start?" to "I can help you!". Some people live untill 120 years old. How old are you? Is there a deadline on your hobbies? If not, stay awhile and learn, and have a good time with everyone here. If so........ Umm....  WHY IS THERE A DEADLINE ON YOUR HOBBIES?!?!?!?!? (In the nicest way possible of course)As long as you think of this as fun and not work, then you should be just fine. Work is something you have to do. Fun is something you want to do. Hacking should be something you enjoy. If you suck, it's ok, as long as you enjoy yourself. It's not like you will suck forever. And not everyone will think you suck. |

| Ok, first off saying you can't do this is bad. Never think that. Also, you are rushing. You don't want to pick up an editor and begin editing gameplay and graphics and a while bunch of other stuff right from the start (unless you have had past experiences). Start slowly, such as with a level-only edit of SMW. Once you have done that, work with editing FG and BG graphics and then put those skills to the test in another hack. Work slowly. It took me a while just to learn how to edit graphics myself... I learned how to rip myself, which leads me to another point. Don't come here for every question you need answered. If you want to find something out, use Google (mainly if you want to find something), ask others polietly, and even better is finding it out yourself through trial and error (after making a backup of course). You are just working too fast. WAY too fast... |

Here's something I've done Pixel by Pixel . I've never put it in my game yet, but I will soon enough (it's not finished yet, but it's getting close to being done; and it's going to be some kind of Liquid Crystal Cavern) But anyway, I'm not trying to claim to be "The Best" (I guess I kinda use the wrong words in my first post), I just meant that I am extreamly good (Oops, looks like I might have started a bit of a contest  , oh well )(edited by Atma X on 09-24-04 10:31 PM) |
