My favourite ska bands are: Less Than Jake, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and The Aquabats (Pizza Day rules).

Well the 'bats aren't really much of a ska band these days. They've been gradually turning into a Devo-esque band for years, now and the process is nearly complete.

But yeah, I like the 'Bats and the Specials and that's about it.

Anyone heard the Skatalites, the Jamaican band from the 1960s that INVENTED ska?

Ska was around a little bit before the Skatalites formed

Catch 22 is the best band of all time.

I like Streetlight, The Jinkies, Reel Big Fish, Big D and the Kids Table, Rx Bandits, Monty's Fan Club, and Bad Larry.

I've went to the Coast to Coast Roast, and to another Catch show that was at a local club. Pure awesomeness. They just rock so hard live.

I like The Specials, or atleast, some of their songs.
It's been since I saw my brother last that I've listened to Ska, which has been quite a while
My sister told me he's playing in a Ska band now, I'd love to hear something of what he plays, but oh well..

The other day, I was listening to an all ska station, and I came to the conclusion that I actually don't like a lot of ska.

I don't like the slow type ska bands, and I'm drawn to the high-energy ones.
Catch 22 and Reel Big Fish have energy I guess, so I like them more than the Mustard Plugs, and the Skalites of the world.

Find out what band he's in! I'd like to check it out.

You're more in to Third Wave. The more you listen to ska, the more you start to appreciate it's subtleties, and the more you'll wnat to listen to slower ska stufff.
You might want to check out The Slackers, Go Jimmy Go, and Warsaw. They're sort of like a fusion between third wave and more traditional styles, with some more modern ideas such as hip hop thrown in.

Mustard Plug isnt a slow type ska band. They';re just as energetic as the rest of the third wave crowd. You probably just ehard one song by them that was slow and labeled them. check out other stuff, like Lolita, or Miss Michigan.

There was nothing wrong with DEVO back when the Aquabats weren't trying to be them, and there's nothing wrong with the Aquabats bringing them back.

I agree with Toxic here, Catch 22 is the greatest band ever. But I actually think Goldfinger is excellent, although they're more punk nowadays than ska, back in the days when they did stuff like Hang Ups they were really good.

On the other hand though, I can't stand RBF, The Bosstones, or LTJ (unless I'm in a really good mood). All of them have an excellent sound, but they suffer from the biggest problem all ska bands seem to suffer from, their frontmen are just annoying. Streetlight Manifesto, however, is extremely good (most likely cause they're pretty much 50% Catch 22).

I'd love to, but I can't untill my homefront calls me. He's a drummer, btw, so unless you're aware of drumming skill levels, you won't really notice he's there

I have listened to ska for some time, and I just like the faster stuff more.

Whats wrong wioth the term "Third Wave"??

Its the THIRD WAVE OF SKA.

First wave was late 50's to mid 60's.
Second wave was 70-early 80's. Third wave is mid 90's to present.

You obviously didnt listen to enough Mustard Plug. they're not slow. at all. I dont understand where youfd jskad Nevermind.

Fuck yeah, Streetlight Manifesto is extremly good! I love it.

They're like 50% OLD Catch22.
After their first cd, Keasby Nights, half the band left to persue otehr things. The members that replaced them turned the band to shit. That is, except Mingus, the Bass Player. That guy's pretty fuckin good.

So, a couple years ago, the gusy from Keasby Nights got back together with some new guys and formed Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution. About 6 months laer, they recorded the demo for Everything Goes Numb and posted that on their BOTAR site. int he next few months, they recorded Point/Counterpoint, Saddest Song, and We are the Few. It took a year or better for them to get back together and finish up and form Streetlight Manifesto.

If you havent heard any BOTAR, I suggest you check them out. Its fuckin BEUATIFUL music. Pure art in its finest form. Its a 14 piece band. ALL Acoustic. No electricity is used to make these songs.

I've got all 5 songs uploaded on my server. You can download them if you want:

This is a Call to Arms - The intro Song. its a medly of the other 4 songs they made.
Dear Sergio - Yes, this is a cover of the Catch22 song! It's also got an extra verse thats really good.
Here's To Life - Streetlight Covered this on EGN. A song about Kalnoky's Heros that ocmmited suicide.
Its a Wonderful Life - A song about dying in war and leaving his love behind. This is probalby my favorite.
They Will Provide the Paint for the Picture Perfect Masterpiece that You Will Paint On the Insides of Your Eyelids - This one sounds kinda like a SM song. Its really good. Its a song about fighting in a war, and they consequences and pychological feelings of it. Plus, the title is fuckin rad.

oh, and just cuz im on a Tomas Kalnoky kick, Heres a picture of him when SM played here in seatle. BEST. SHOW. EVER>

Also, Heres a couple Desktop Wallpapers I've made.
Streetlight Manifesto
Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution Tank Guy
BOTAR Flying Guitar -this one looks best if you center it, and set the desktop color to black, like on my Desktop.

Ehh, I can see what you mean now.

I still don't like them though; maybe it's the quality of the tunes I'm listneing too, but it seems flat.

And not really there, Jeff Davidson wasn't bad at all. No one can replace Tomas, and he did a decent job.

Tomas is an amazing guitar player.. but.. thats not what it was all about.
Tomas was the core song writer.
niether Jeff nor Dan could come even close to Tomas's song writing skills.

All catch22 since Kalnoky left is Boring, unimaginative, flat, and generic. its just like every other third wave band out there. Also, the new line up cant play for shit live. they're constantly out of time and tune. Especially when they butcher up Keasbey Nights.

Dinosaur Sounds is bad, I can say that...but again, you must have selective seeing or something, because I just said in my last post that no one can replace Tomas.

And actaully, I don't like your opinion anymore so I won't come back to this thread. I've seen them twice and they didn't rush or screw up any tracks.

If you want to rag on "third wave" I can just come back and say how slow and boring the other brands of ska are. Typical lyrics, lack of energy, boring, etc.

Im not raggin on third wave. I like third wave. Unfortunatly, way too much of it is generic crap.

"Jeff Davidson wasn't bad at all. No one can replace Tomas, and he did a decent job."

I wasnt arguing that you said no one could replace tomas. I was arguing that he did a decent job.
