Since I can't edit my posts yet, and I'm getting buried, here's my last post on the thread Need BG/FG Assistance, Experienced Questions Required. This reply I gave, was to a response that said not to paste anything, on pages 1&2, and page 10 of the 16x16 tile editor.....and my response was....

And also, how can you use backround images from pages 12 on? Because the only way I can create backrounds, is when theyr'e located on page 10. My backround editor will only accept images from page 10. I have pages after page 10 with graphics, but if I want to use them, I have to place them on page 10. Am I still missing steps here?

To use BG images from beyond page 12, simply take tiles from the 12th page (they must be from the current BG if you want to make a custom coloured BG in a palette you cannot get from the "Edit Colors and Palettes" option), and copy them to whatever page you want to use them (just make sure they are all on the same page, and do not change the palettes of those tiles on the 12th page. If you do, it will affect any other level with the same BG).

I'm sorry, I'm not quite catching that. Your saying I can copy and paste them to any page, which I understand. But, I've been told not to screw around with page 10. But that's the only place the backround editor will accept pieces of graphics from. If I try to use a piece of graphic from any other page, the backround editor says it will not accept it. But if it's on page 10, it will accept it. This is quite confusing, because If I put something there on page 10, what ever originality was there, will be effected not for that one level, but multiple others, which is what I don't want going on.

Um, I wasn't talking about any page, the pages I am talking about are 13-1F. But I think it is possible to use pages 10 and 11 as well.

yes i ment 13-1f as any pages, that's what i ment. But if it's possible to use pages 10-11, without screwing up other levels that use those pages, I'd appreciate step by step on how to use page 11. I've also noticed that when you download from ExGFX, they give you screenshots of what your downloading, and I notice, it shows you FG and BG pictures, but I have problems loading the BG, maybe I'm doing that wrong? Cause what I do, is use the 16x16. goto page 3, load the FG, and save it with F9. Do I just goto page 11 and beyound, and do the same thing with the same file, and if so, will the backround image come up, instead of the FG image that appeared on page 3?

Im sure that was me who told you not to mess around with pages 10-11. That is ONLY if you want to use the original BG's in your game aswell as new ones.

Follow these steps:

1. Rip your BG (or make it) and put it into an ExGFX file.
2. Open LM and Insert ExGFX using the...yellow (?) mushroom.
3. Open the 8x8 editor (if you riped/made the BG) and the 16x16 editor (if you downloaded the BG).
4. **This is for a downloaded one (one from the ExGFX workshop)**
a. Open the Super Bypass FG/BG window.
b. Where it says BG1 type in the ExGFX number.
c. X out that window.
5. Your BG will be funky, THATS OKAY!
6.Now in the 16x16 window, go to a page from 12-1F.

**Have the ExGFX**.bin in the folder called ExGFX (you probably already know that) and have the other files (Map16Page.bin, Map16PageG.bin etc. in the same folder as your Rom.)**

7. Now on a page from 12-1F hit the F2 button. Click yes (or okay) and the graphics should show up.
8. Now open the BG editor (the leaf) and on the KEYBOARD hit Page Up. Look in the cornor of the BG editor and you will see numbers (ex: 1024, 1124, 1224 etc.). Notice the 10, 11, and 12 parts. This is the page that the editor will use in the 16x16 edior.
9. So if you graphics are on page 16, it should say 16** (** is just the tile number). If they are on page 13 it should say 13**. Get it?
10. Now just clcik on one of your tiles in the 16x16 editor and then right click in the Bg Editor.
11. Tile Pasted!! (hopefully)

I really hope that works fro you, and if you dont understand something DONT BE AFRAID TO ASK!! I like to help people so they can make great hacks.

BTW, I dont have LM open here so this is from memory. If someone sees something wrong with this tell me.

ok, I'm running into a new problem now

I'm starting a completely new game. I extracted the gfx from the game, then I hit the ExGFX extract button, and it said no graphics were found, and created the ExGFX folder. Great, everything is going fine. Now, I placed a ExGFX**bin in the ExGFX folder, I go to install it, and a graphic warning screen appears, saying it's in 3bpp format. I've never encountered this problem before! It even said that to me when I tried putting in the regular GFX back into the game. I remind you, this is a fresh new game, no hacks or anything have been done to it yet. How do I get by this warning? It even tells me I can proceed, if I like looking at garbage! I don't want to look at garbage. Please help!! Thank You!

I'm no expert with it, but this is what I think. Have you remembered of change the ExGfx file to SNES format before editing? Which program are you using?

nevermind about the 3bpp thing, i got it working

BUT!!! I still have a BG problem, and I'm really confused

I want to place the Ocean backround on page 12. Now before I did anything with tha backround, I set the backround editor itself, to take graphics from page 12 only. Then I went to my 16x16 tile editor, and went to page 12, which was completely blank. Ok, now, I went to the red mushroom, I went to BG1, I went to "ExGFX88" I clicked ok, and the Ocean backround appeared on page 12. BUT, just for curiousity, I scrolled down to look at pages 11 & 10. They were fucked up!!! I didn;t save anything. I had the Ocean graphic perfectly on page 12, but it totally screwed up pages 11 & 10. Is that normal?
