Let's be fair to the poor browser. Which various JS crap?

DirectX access, image transitions, the whole object thing... The list goes on.

Jesus. Tabbed browsing, popup blocking, password remembering, download manager, themes, customizable search, alternate styles, ad blocking, extensions and type-ahead find called today. Says they hate that you completely missed them. Most useful functions in Mozilla are still there in Firefox. The menus are less cluttered, and I actually had to dig deep into settings to be able to recite those. That's the great thing - all of those features are there, but they're not bogging your browser down (as the case might be in other browsers, such as IE), and they're not in your face when you don't need them.

I call bullshit on your "All it does is render HTML." sentence - it's the same, if a slightly outdated version, goddamn rendering engine. Mozilla is a suite, and the web browser in that suite is a lot clunkier than Firefox, even if the feature set is comparable, if not mostly identical.

OK, so I exaggerated a bit. It can render HTML, save passwords, browse in tabs, and all sorts of other very basic features. That's about it. Last I checked, I couldn't even save an image, and it was no faster than Mozilla. 1/2 the size and 1/4 the features, hardly seems worth it to me. (BTW, Mozilla also has extension support.)

...something must have been really messed up since image saving is possible for me, hell it have been since... 0.7. Which version of Firefox did you try BTW?

I tried Mozilla, I hated it. Reminded too much about Netscape, it's similar to Firefox but I couldn't stand the bulkyness. And I noticed the longer loading time, it was a old computer with Linux I compared Firefox and mozilla on.

And i'm one of them who dosen't use many extensions, the biggest reason I use Firefox is the speed and for the addicting "tabs" (i'm not one of thoose all-in-one people). I compared IE and Firefox and firefox is way faster. IE may start 0,5 seconds faster sometimes but when it comes to surfing...

And oh, my computer is spyware free. So there is no spyware/viruses slowing IE down...

None of those have anything to do with JavaScript. "The whole object thing" is available in Mozilla too, as is the embed tag and so on.

Yes, Mozilla has extension support - that was the point. Enumerating a big pile of useful features that originated in Mozilla and still are there in Firefox. And like I told you on AIM, "1/4 the features" is the worst bullshit I've heard. I'll await your review later on, when you've finally reformatted your computer.

Alright, with the gestures extension, I can grant firefox another shot, but some things annoy me and I'm too lazy to figure them out at the moment:

1. Whenever you click a link on a page to go to a different page, and then hit "back", it goes to the top of the original page... not to the place you were looking at before you went to the second page. This annoys the hell out of me, since in long pages it means I'll have to scroll down every time I click a link. Help plz?

2. I hate how when you download a file, it doesn't ask you where you want to download it.. it just throws it straight on the desktop (or whatever directory.) I know you can specify a certain location with "save link as...", but that doesn't work with a lot of downloads. Help plz?

1. It doesn't do that for me. It goes to the place that you were looking at.
2. Go to Tools, Options, and click the Downloads button. At the top should be something like "Ask me where to save each download". Click that.

1. I think this is because you fiddled with caching settings, and thus it's redownloading the page and not bothering to go to the same 'position'. If this is the case, it will be especially appearent in long pages, which you mentioned, since they are bigger both in 'height' and in file size - they take longer to download.
2. Yes, it always downloads to the same folder, and sadly that folder is Desktop by default (probably because if "My Downloads" was the default, people would have problems finding it). Like he said, either pick "My Downloads" (or "Other..." and pick another one) or pick "Ask me".

Oh, and a hint for everyone giving Firefox another go: stuff has changed considerably between 0.7 and 1.0, 0.8 and 1.0, or even 0.9.3 and 1.0. I highly recommend you download 1.0 instead of trying your old installed copy again - it's not going to have grown better since you last tried it, but 1.0 has.

there is 1.0 now? , i guess i better get the new one when I'm bored...

anyways, IE dominates the market but as the general population gets more education, they'll defect to other browsers. Mozilla is nice for when you don't want to open a new window, especially if you are using an internet browser remotely--or well through a terminal. But i guess not many of us are in that position...

then what the bluck do you use? that is a completely contradictory statement...

anyways, I have mozilla in addition to IE but I tend to use IE more. I dunno, I do use mozilla every now and then but I use IE more. I guess until I get totally screwed by IE, I'll still use IE...

I do use Microsoft Internet Explorer but it's hella slow.
We're supposed to be getting a new cpu along with some other crap to make it work faster.
Hopefully that'll be soon.

If you are on a really older machine like me, it might be slower when starting due to the time to start-up FF.
My new comp will come soon,so I can at least open so much tabs I want ... unlike now
Don't forget, the essential files for IE are already loaded inside Windows, while FF needs to load everything.

You also can enable pipelining by adding/editing the proper .css or .js file in Firefox. See one of my posts on page 1 or 2, there I linked to a small program called Mozilla Optimizer. It is in German, but does these changes automatically for every version. Also the changes can be undone at any time

This should speed up Firefox a lot.

Firefox

I wouldn't dream of using anything other than Firefox now. It's years ahead of IE, it has a wide range of features that you actually use, and it saves so much time over using IE.

I have both FireFox and IE on my computer. I have only rarely been using FireFox as I found IE to be easier to use

I know FireFox has alot of good features and is more modern, but I just haven't had time to explore.

I use Firefox. Period. The bad thing is that ChromEdit doesn't have a 0.10 version yet.

As for the comment that IE is slow... I find it much faster under Wine than it does on Windows ...

Before I did want to try FireFox when I had NetZero..because everything was going incredibly slow. I thought maybe it'd help speed it up. Now I don't have to but I feel like trying it for the hell of it because I hear mostly good things about it. I still have IE but don't use it. Just using the one for Yahoo DSL..DSL..yeah. I loves it.

Did anyone check out the url in Jespers custom title? It's practically mandatory. It's soooo much easier downloading mass files now. Back when I used IE, I had to right click on each and every link that I wanted to save, now I can do it in one fell swoop, while doing something else. It's great if you want to download an entire directory and all of its subdirectories. Awesome.
