not sure if this occurs in other NES emus but if I am running an MP3 player (winamp or JetAudio) while still playing my nes emu (FCEU or Nestopia) I experience abrupt music chunks form the MP3 player. As if there is too much memory being used to process both emu and MP3 player. I thought NES emus were pretty light in that respect. Can you guys give me some info? * i can get it to work fine if I use an MP3 player with the FCEU, but only if the sound is enabled and turned down to 0. |

My question is, why in the heck are you using an MP3 player and running an NES emu at the same time?

I'd say that the NES emulators probably take more processing power than the MP3 players you mentioned. It's because NES emulators tend to be very intensive, and can eat up more of the CPU time, which means other applications tend to suffer.

Fce ultra is one of the more heavy NES emulators, it's accurate but heavy. I think even Zsnes runs faster than FCE ultra but don't quote me on that. And your using Win98 on that computer? |

I like to listen to Overclocked Remix songs while I play. I feel it enhances the experience. I think you are right about FCEU running heavier than Znes. but why? I'm running Win2000 on my computer. beep beep twirl boop |

Originally posted by alitnil The people that coded ZSNES didn't code FCEU, it's two different consoles, there's two different codings, and there's tons of different options. That's how. Alternatively, you could always get Nesticle running in DOS mode for 2K's shit prompt and go for broke that way. That SHOULDN'T lag. |

It helps if you fill us in on your processor speed. It also helps if sound is diabled in your NES emu. Although I can take a good guess. I run (insert random amount of)NNNesterJ and winamp, and MP3's play fine. SPC's and there's a very slight slowdown. So, based on that, you have a 350MHz-450MHz. Here's an idea, listen to the NES music. =p

well, as it turns out, using FCEU with the sound turned down works just fine for me so I stuck with it. I don't really know what my processing power is or really care. all I know is that this thing is five years old now and I need a new one. I'm such a loser. I have a Bachelor of Arts in the field of Multimedia but still know just as much about a computer as I did in highschool. not really, but close enough to make a point. but then again, my focus was on art and animation than programming or hardware. ... did i get off track? Uhm, thanks for the input gang. |
