You just copied and pasted what I said into the bottom, unedited and everything. I feel special. Edit: To elaborate, I'm the only one I've seen with that. Yay. (edited by Xkeeper on 09-16-04 12:30 PM) |

I know Delphi and C, although I'm a bit rusty on the latter. I also know some basic 6502/6510 assembly but have only coded stuff on the Commodore 64 and VIC-20.

I know C, C++, Perl, JavaScript, and SQL (including MySQL and PostgreSQL extensions) quite well. I've also done some GUI programming using GTK (Gimp Toolkit).

I've made some small changes to the list and updated the ones not in there already. Merging C and C++ become necessary. I should probably put the 'rules' for what languages go there too.

i think a few people are missing the point of this thread. many have listed languages that they have mess around with, and not languages that they can actually help with. if it was just up to languages i've had somewhat less experience with, small useless programs, i could list PHP, Brainfuck, C, C++ as well EDIT: i understand when someone like Dan enters "[basics]" for something like 6502 or Visual Basic. He would actually be able to offer nice and relevant help with whatever subects. but some of the others.. *gavin shrugs* (edited by Gavin on 09-24-04 02:05 AM) |

Delphi - Programming language of choice. Romhacking-oriented programming and database applications (via BDE, ODBC or direct access controls to X database system). Visual Basic - I quit using it a few months ago. However, I still can offer help/suggestions. 6502 Assembly - As far as the assembly language is concerned, I feel capable of offering help. Regarding NES hardware, I would say I know it pretty well but still have some "lagoons". C/C++ - Console programming and SDL (2D gfx, input, sound, etc.) |

Would you count mIRC script language as a "programming language"? If then, count me in as mIRC script basic. |

Gavin has a point. With some of the languages I listed, I know enough to help people I know from real life, but the questions from around here are more advanced than that. You can take me out of z80 and C++. |

Originally posted by GavinI realize I've fallen behind terribly on this list. But I also see a valid point in what gavin says. If you will, the semantic purity is somewhat muddled. So, I think I'm going to setup a little web-based thingamajig that will allow users to add themselves, and devise some sort of way to show that here instead. If you think I will forget this later on, just send me a PM reminding me. |

I will note that I think I'm pretty damn good with PHP (including the more advanced class/interface shit in 5). I've done things with the extensions, but not enough to help. Maaaaybe GD2. Anyway, I don't really see the intended use of this list. If there's a thread in the forum, I'll reply if I see it, I can help, AND I care. Are "helpees" meant to PM people on the list? I can see how that would be useful for the more obscure languages, but PHP questions are generally posted as threads anyway, since evidently a good chunk of the programmer-types here can help with it. |

Originally posted by FinneramNo, "helpees" are supposed to be able to look if their question can reasonably be answered if they want to. Yes, we have more PHP coders than the collective sum of our IQs here, but that's why I ask people to specify what they're particularly good at, or if they know everything about the language except for these things, and so on. I want to get back to the "people should look inside this thread before posting". Obviously if you hang out here all day, or even once a month, odds are good you know that there are a few ASM guys around here. However, Joe Q. Average, surfing the web, able to read all threads here, maybe he found this place by googling for something about, say, PHP, might want to know if his question can be answered before he registers just to post one thread. Makes things easier for users here, makes sure the people that are willing to help out get questions aimed for their particular areas of interests, and gives us admins less "one-posters" to weed out for inactivity later on. Everybody wins. |
