Janus: "One thousand.... Two thousand.... Three thousand.... Blast, I've lost count. How old AM I anyway?"

A tree. A meadow. A farmhouse in the distance. Janus stands before a gravestone, bearing the name of an old friend. He's changed over the years; His white shirt is now covered by a magical metal hauberk, cursing him and yet somehow feeding his strength at the same time. His hair is longer. His red baseball cap is tattered and beginning to die, no matter how he cares for it. However, the most that has changed about him is his nature. There's no need for him to care about anything anymore; he's realized that all things must die, and that he needs not care about something that he will not have forever. Today, however, is a special case. This person was very important to him, and he comes now to commemorate his passing.

"I don't even know how long it's been... But I remember you. You. Of all people, I remember you and the other two. Probably because I still visit that time often. But I can only visit it sparingly, as I've found... The perspective alone would be mind boggling. To you, I would be there every day, but I've realized now that I can only see you in my OWN perspective... at least once every hundred years or so..."

There is another at this location. Janus extended the challenge to him, to see if those who travel through time truly are immortal, as he has found himself to be. He'll come. Janus knows this much.

"Star... I'm waiting..."

The gravestone is extremely old as it is, at least three hundred or so years have passed since its representative was placed within the earth. The writing on it has been scratched and crumbled away from years of weathering. Only one word can be seen, clear as day, once and forever...

"Red"....

"It has been a while hasn't it Janus..." The voice seemed to come from nowhere, but Star came into view as he had looked at the graves.

Star had cursed himself with the burden of immortality to control the one wrong thing he has done, and after hundreds upo hundreds of years, he has barely changed. He kept the same gear, and didn't learn anymore abilities. His things could be kept forever, but he knew how Janus felt. Long ago most of the people he knew had died, and even Origin eventually left this plane of exsistance.

"I don't think you ever told me the story of why they chased you though. Not many immortals are truely immortal you know, and some have even passed away."

Star had his shield and sword out, and seemed ready to fight.

"And now Janus, I am wondering if it will be your turn soon..."

"I'm not here to die, Star. There's still many things I have left to do, a universe of knowledge for me to gain. That's what keeps me going."

Janus's bag is present now, even after so many years, still harmless and unblemished. Inside it lie the relics of countless times, no longer packed to the brim with discs and carts but instead a mixture of games he refuses to use and artifacts from times he wishes he had never visited. A bag of memories it has become, along with everything else. He flips a switch he's flipped a score of a thousand times before, and feels the familiar handle extend from it. It seems so silly now, using a bag as a hammer, but it is his.

"I've tried, Star. I really have. A million suicide attempts, a thousand defeats at the hands of foes I could have destroyed, and all for naught."

He turns away from Red's grave, and faces Star, holding his hammer in one hand and drawing from the bag his metal staff.

"You chose to be immortal because you have something to live for. I have to be immortal because I have nothing to die for."

Taking a stance that holds his hammer outwards in his right hand, Janus's left hand flips another switch, this one on his staff. From the tip of the staff comes a blade, so fine it can cut the wind itself. A present from Death himself.

"I've seen him, Star. I've met the most famous of my kind, and he refused to take my life, telling me I have so much more to do. Instead, he gave me this. The Scythe of the Reaper. Well, a copy of it, anyway. He told me something, he told me that I still have a destiny to fulfill. I have no clue what destiny that is, and I suppose that is why I'm still here. Perhaps it's because I haven't settled my score with a certain person. Perhaps it is because I wear this accursed metal armor that this person gave me. It's odd, I know."

He brandishes his two weapons. The scythe is held clumsily outward, but he has no intention of fighting with it today. Instead, he puts it away and waits for Star to attack him.

"I can't kill you, Star, and I don't want to. I know you can't kill me either, and you know that too. So why don't we have a good match, for old times' sake? Maybe you'll learn a bit more about me because of it. Tell me, have you ever heard of the Radiant Order?"

"Death hmm? There are many version of that one person, and I have seen plenty. Everytime we meet Death always tells me that I am punishing myself with immortality, and I couldn't be taken by force. Become a hero and die for the right cause Janus! Now lets fight!"

Star jumps towards Janus with a thrust, but his shield was up and ready to block the hammer. Star had become faster and stronger, but he was in no way different from what he had once been. Lightning seemed to arch between his armor, but it was all for show at this point.

"Defensive, good! I like your thinking!"

Janus goes into a slow, ducking roll and comes out of it with a swing to Star's feet!

"Death is indeed a strange fellow. He's got an interesting way of talking, too. But you still haven't answered me, have you ever heard of the Radiant Order?"

After the low swing, Janus goes into a series of frontflips and roundhouses, ending about fifteen feet away from Star.

"Not really."

Star was tripped from the attack and flipped over and landed on his feet. He quickly shot a lightning bolt at Janus to try and stop him. As soon as Star landed he was on his way back charging Janus with his sword again. This time he went in for a horizontal strike combined with a shield bash type move.

Janus: "Satchel's Storage!"

Bringing his hammer parallel with his body, Janus watches as the lightning bolt collides with the hammer's head, and is absorbed into the bag. Stored energy, if you will. Instantly the hammer heats up to an incredibly high temperature, and Janus drops it to the ground, his hands blistering in pain.

"Yowch, haven't done that in a ---WHOA!"

Janus drops to a crab-walk position as Star's blade swings over him, lets go and falls to the ground, and rolls out of the way, calling his still-hot hammer back to him, but unable to launch a successful counterattack due to the complexity of his dodge.

"You might want to becareful what you do or you might end up with a deep cut."

Star charged again and jumped into the air. Lightning circled his blade and seemed to make copies of it, making the real one very hard to see. Star wasn't aiming at Janus though he was aiming at the ground right next to him. He had a plan, but it would be very complex and easy to ruin so he had to fight perfectly.

Janus barely evaded Star's flurry of blades with a loose backflip out of Star's path. Sailing into the air, he grabs his hammer and comes out of the backflip swinging, letting go of his hammer and watching as it sails toward the ground near Star, causing a quaking shockwave to rip through the earth. Janus' Earthquake Hammer Throw!

Janus: "I do so hate those deep cuts, which is probably why I can't stand to use bladed weapons!"

Star's sword hit the ground and elecricity was discharged into it. He quickly jumped into the air as the shockwave came and landed softly. He charged again with a manuver just like the one before. His sword still producing electricty and making it hard to see which one was real.

Janus (thinking): 'Electricity...?'

Skidding backward a few steps, Janus spins his hammer in a defensive circle before him, catching Star's real blade in the crook of the hammer as it spins. Janus holds the weapon steady, bracing it and trying as hard as he can not to let the sword move any closer to him. The two weapons will be deadlocked, but Star's still free to discharge lightning at will. Unfortunately, once again Janus cannot counterattack, as his weapon is currently holding Star's steady...

Star shot the lightning from his blade, but it didn't hit Janus it just kept going and hit the ground. Star broke out of thte attack and pointed his sword at another part of the ground. He shot lightning and as it hit all three points that he had discharged lightning into were struck by lightning. Star stood in the center and waited for Janus.

"I hope this works..."

Janus: "What? That looks like some kind of shield... Well, while you're playing with your thunderballs, I'll continue my story."

Electricity crackles around Janus, as he activates the power of Green's Lightning within him...

"The Radiant Order... I was one of them, you know. An organization of demigods designed to keep human beings complacent and happy through the form of mindless entertainment. Television, sports, and in my case, video games, were all intended to keep humans from doing any serious harm. Each one had a patron deity, a person who could moderate and regulate the activities of the users of each form of entertainment. There's one for sex, one for drugs, one for rock and roll, even a subsection devoted to books and hobbies. Mine? I already said, video games. That's where my powers come from, I was created when the first games were created, in order to ensure the success of such thoughtless fun. Of course, it was all very violent, but most facets of human nature are."

Green's Lightning is raging at this point, enveloping Janus in a sea of blue brightness, a pure stream of energy particles moving at a solid 186000 mi/s. It had indeed been several thousand years since the three men he respected most died, but he made sure their talents were not forgotten...

Star's little manuver wasn't a shield, but something else that would come in handy later. Star could feel the lightning energy and he worried what Janus could be planning, but Star had a plan of his own.

"That's all nice and good, but can you do anything with it?"

Star charged Janus with his sword out, but it wasn't like his other charges he was aiming for Janus this time. Time energy started to glow in the sword as Star was planning a briallant attack.

Janus: "Of course I can!"

As Star charged at Janus, Janus allows Star to drive his blade straight into Janus' metal hauberk, and just when it seems like Star's about to pierce straight through him, the blade is stopped, right on the outside of the armor. Janus grabs Star's blade and holds it tight. Blood begins to trickle down Star's sword as Janus' grip gets tighter, and as he slowly drives the blade into himself, through the armor and into his flesh.

"This armor is a part of the reason I can't die, Star. Its curse protects me from physical death, any wound I'm given can be healed, even if it takes 100 years. Not only that, but it can't be broken, I've tried everything from hitting it with my hammer to taking a hundred blows from a hundred warriors at once. I can't take it off."

Janus grins, his eyes flickering an eerie blue color, as he backs away from Star's blade, still holding it tight. An open wound can be seen in his midsection, yet there is very little blood. The wound does not close, and stays stationary as it is, still not letting a large amount of Janus' blood out. Some magical force is keeping the wound from being fatal, an example of the cursed hauberk he wears. It's plainly obvious that Janus is in pain.

"Of course, that doesn't stop me from being hurt, just from dying. It's very nerve wracking!"

Janus discharges his lightning into Star's blade!

"You actually thing that is going to work?"

Star keeps ahold of his blade and jumps into the air. He feels the heat from the electricity going through him, but he doesn't get blasted by the full attack. He stores as much energy as he can from Janus' attack and yanks his sword out. Star jumps forward again, but uses his shield with a shield bash attack.

"That is all bad for you, but you must have not seen true power yet. You would think some real fighter would have broken that in two if my sword can go through it without much of a problem."

Star discharges time magic from his shield that starts to alter the space around Janus. Time starts to go out of whack where he is standing and it is trying to tear him apart. The attack can't be fatal, but it can induce a lot of pain.

Janus' speech is a bit distorted at this point, time is definitely not on his side today... As different functions of his body are performed at different speeds, he can feel the effects everywhere... His heart's beating is out of line with the air he's breathing, his brain begins to pound from lack of oxygen... Yet he speaks anyway.

Janus: "Itwentt.......th...r..oughebecauseILe....t.....it!"

To try to keep his personal time frame stable, Janus clumsily clasps his hands together, and shouts out a spell...

"Haste!"

As the spell takes effect, Janus zooms about, stabilizing the time stream around him, and leaving him moving (and talking) very quickly.

"Therethat'sabitbetter,wouldn'tyousay?Nowthen,where'smyhammer?Ah,thereitis!"

Not noticing how fast he's moving, Janus runs over to his hammer, which he dropped when he grabbed Star's blade. The spell begins to wear off, just as he picks up the hammer. Time is back in perspective. Sort of, anyway...

"Wow, that was pretty good, I still have a headache! The fact is, Star, the protection from my armor is involuntary, I can turn it off if I keep my will concentrated on it, but the moment I pass out from the pain of a fatal wound it goes right back in and I start to heal up. I guess I've got one hell of a survival instinct. However, when I actually wake up from the wound is a different story."

Janus is fast. Very fast. Star sees this firsthand as, in the time it takes him to look at Janus, blink an eye, and refocus his eyes, Janus is at his side, swinging his hammer!

Star tries to parry the blow with his sword, but is far to slow and gets knocked over. For a second it looks like Star was knocked completely out, but he flipped back up landing in the center of his lightning triangle, which lightning started to strike again.

"Lucky shot Janus, but I am going to show you true power. If you friend Green ever had this capability you would have been friend within a few seconds on your first meeting."

Lightining started striking faster on the three points, and it began to strike Star. He absorbed the lightning hitting him and took an odd stance. Soon lightning was arching between him and the three points. One of his strongest attacks was ready to be unleashed, but he couldn't do it quite yet.

Janus: "Argh, I don't like the look of that lightning, and I didn't want to use a game, either.... But I have to be ready for anything!"

Reaching into his bag hammer, Janus pulls out a disc and looks at it fervently, his eyes glistening that bright blue color. It's almost as if he's scanning the disc with his eyes...

Star continued to stand not moving an inch, but one of the three points discharged a little bit of lightning at Janus trying to stop whatever he was trying. Star remained in the same position his whole body looking more like lightning than anything else.

"Come on and try and stop me..."
