| As a few of you may or may not be aware, I have long been considering getting a tattoo. The specific tattoo I would be in getting would something like this:... http://www.axxent.ca/~gennaro/Other_Tattoos/Crosses/cross_tattoo_91.html ...bearing the word "Gekauft". Gekauft means "bought" in German, the word in reference to Jesus paying for the sin of man, and it's being in German is because of me being part German in decent. I would plan on having it put on either my left or right shoulder. My mom is completely okay with this. In fact, she encourages it. My dad, however, is a different story. He is relatively old fashioned, and always says tattoos don't look good to employers when aplying for a job, and the like. While I do want to get a tattoo, I also don't want to go against my dad's wishes. It's not like he's some kind of raging control freak or anything. This is actually the first time he ever did anything like this. The question I have this this. Does anyone propose any solutions to this matter, or any way I can convice my dad otherwise? |

| I've got my tattoo on my ass. And another coming on my back, and another coming on my leg. Really, in 10 years, employers won't be able to turn away tattooed people. It'll be discrimination. Would you turn away a person who suffered third degree burns without probable cause? No, you wouldn't. This is not too much different. |

| I plan on getting several tatoos soon. Along with a massive amount of piercings problem is in order to get a job I need a good friend as a manager or a behind the scenes job like computer technician. Just dont wear a wife beater. =/ |

| Well, you did mention that he is the old-fashion type, and they can can be stubborn to no end, so you might never be able to convince him. If you still live with your parents, I would just wait until you were on your own and then, if you still want it, get it.Later on, he'll have to understand or at least try to, as to why you finally got it done. I have my tattoo on my right shoulder, and its usually covered when I go out, unless I'm wearing a low-back shirt or binki-top. |

| Are you saying that I'm old fashioned or that my father is? Or that I am stubborn? If its the latter, well, duh, everyone and their mother knows that I am. I am half Puerto Rican after all. I got my tat when I was 19, with my own money, and on my own. I didn't tell my dad until a few years later. Maybe one or two. Actually, I told my grandmother first when I was visting them, and she smacked me, but was alright with it after that.  |

Well the only think that I can think of is which parent do you like more, now listen and don't mock me,,imediately anyway, your mom or your dad? If you like your dad more than don't get it. If you like your mom more just get it and then have your mom convince your dad to just see it before he says anything about it. And if he sees it and doesn't like it just tell him that You're 18 and that people doing job interviews won't see it anyway...Does that work? If not tell me and I will devise another plan. |
