So, you guys got any plans?

Having some friends over, getting a BBQ started?

I'm broke so I'm probably just going to hang here.

Good. Because if you don't, the terrorists win.

You really think that this should be in the CD? Some people take this day really to heart.

Myself, I was at my finace's parents house (when they still lived on the west coast of Florida) and we were there for his grandfather's funeral. The day that he was put to rest, was the day that the attacks happened.

Almost a year before 9/11, I was in the DC area and in the capital/main areas.

...The only terrorist I want to win is that cool one.

Anya: What about those of us who are callous and see the entire thing as nothing more than a cool video clip. After CNN and other major news outlets rubbed it all over us like a good bukkakae session?

Yea, I know this.

I didn't watch all the media coverage the days that followed. I didn't want to. I saw right as the 2nd plane hit and so on, so I know what happened.

But, finally, I was watching the 9/11 report that was on the TV a few days ago, just forgot what channel. *shurgs* Pretty much, everyone fucked up.

Just wait until someone personally affected by the event reads this.

People personally affected by anything can read something and take offence to it.

I hate it when people ignore the horrors that the Ukrainians were put through in WW2 because they attacked the Jews a century before? Doesn't mean I'm going to yell about it.

Honestly? I don't see what the big deal is. It's not like this is the most horrible thing to ever happen to humanity. Far, far, FAR from it.
We need to stop using it as a crutch.

Sure it was horrible, but horrible things happen all the time. That's life. I'm just tired of people making this out to be the worst possible thing to ever happen. Ever.

I've got something far worse than that. But I'll be surprised if one person gives a flying fuck about it. Sudan. Do you people care what happens in the Congo? Do you care what happened in Rwanda? 3000 people died more or less instantly in fires and explosions. Woweeee.

Give me a fucking break. Go cry about a real tragedy. Like the spread of dieasease in Asia and how MILLIONS suffer from that. Go cry about Africa and how people are being oppressed, genocided, and starved.

But wait, this was America.

P.S: That was sarcasm. It was horrible, but look at it in perspective. I don't remember anything about that day. I just remember caring for a week before I realized "Damn, this was coming. Half a century of abusive foreign policy can't cause anything good".

I feel worse for the pregnant woman slowly dying of AIDS in Africa than the families who believe that monetary compensation will heal the wounds caused by the terrorist act.

I agree with you 100%. I don't mean to imply that what happened was bad, but come the fuck on. I hate how people refuse to acknowledge suffering until it happens to them.

THAT'S when they start to care. Ugh.

With most horrible events we ignore it. It's easy. This was shoved in our faces like you wouldn't believe. I probably would not have cared at all if I wasn't forced to either. I know I'm not the only one who's passive about disasters. It's just easier to not care than to be upset at all the shit in the world.

I'm going to do sprints at the track (if my knee decides to behave), mow the lawn (it's a month overdue for a trim), and go to Herwig's (an awesome local Austrian restaurant) and stuff my face with kasespatzel (little pasta-ish dumplings smothered in cheese, onions, garlic, and some other spices). I allow myself one meal a week to eat whatever the hell I want, and this is it. Oh, and I'll certainly be working on my costumes as well. I'm going to try and get the styrofoam mold for Zhang He's claws done tomorrow. I cut out some of it tonight, so I'll have to finish cutting and then start sanding and put Bondo on it to fill in the part I screwed up. D'oh.

By the way, I was freaked out and upset when the attack happened, but the day itself didn't bother me in the years afterward. I see it like other tragedies involving massive loss of human life - it would certainly be best if they had never occurred, and they may very well upset you for a while afterward, but at some point, you have to move on.

yeah, I suppose that the idea that tragedies happen all the time with out care is a valid point. But isn't that human nature? If something does not affect you directly, you are bound to be more involved in other aspects of your life.

That's not to say there is absolutly no remorse. Of course we feel saddened by any major catastrophe. Namely the Russian school in recent news. But ultimately there is absolutly nothing i can do to help the dying pregant African with AIDS. Hell, I can't even wipe my ass properly.
Plus it is impossible to feel bad for everything that happens. It's impossible to keep track of the current events of every city in the world too.

And I am sure that the AIDS lady didn't care too much about 9/11. It most likely didn't affect her directly, so she focused on more important aspects of her life. such as, why does a certain pale American boy keep generalizing her as African when she clearly lives in Biera, Mozambique.

P.S.
I had to look at a map of Africa to find the name of that city. That isn't knowledge I have on the top of my head.
