How many of you are skaters? How good are you?

I'm not exactly what you'd call pro but I'm getting there. Slowly but surely.

NOOOO! Ok, there is nothing wrong with the concept of skateboarding, but I loath the culture that has established around it. Erg!

Remember when skating used to be non-corporate and underground?

Oh wait, no you don't.

I skate, not so much any more, and I was never really amazing at it anyway. I think what GB-K is saying is that authority thinks that boarders are evil kids who just want to cause trouble. All around my place we got 'no skateboarding' signs and stuff. Also, all the people who spell it sk8ter are EVIL!!! Its skater no sk8ter.

Dude, you TOTALLY missed the point.

What he means to say is that it's become popular to the point where people are skating because it "looks cool" or because they want to be "in the club", and not because they like skating. It's become a scene, just like, say, emo, and the teenie boppers who are just in it to be cool are fucking annoying.

Not to label anyone here as that, I don't know because I've never met any of you. Sure, I have my guesses, but they're just guesses.

Common Example:
"yo man, lets go to the mall and smoke weed. sounds rad."
"lets go use stairs and rails in their unintended fashion! cool."
"hmm... baggy, or extra baggy. Hey, vibrant boxers! Definitely extra baggy."
"im punked out. look how i wear my mom's makeup and have my hair died a bright blue!"
"hey! look, someone who isnt punked out! lets get em!"
"yep. my tight plad shirt under my tight black shirt looks so cool. it really matches my knit hat which I like wearing in summer. it also matches my cool spiked piece of leather. Frivilous! Uh, I mean, punk-edd out!"
"hygiene is for pussies."
"too cool for school, yo."

Thats all for now. catch my drift?

Edit: Indeed, witeasprinwow. The mentioned example usually can barely skateboard for shit. I respect those who can skateboard well, and do it as a hobby. Nothing wrong with that in my books.

Well there are some skaters who do just want to cause trouble.
I have a place were me and my friends go to skate. And my friends get into fights with those sort of 'skaters' there. For some reason their always having a conflict about who their sponsered by and such.

"It's an oversimplification. When I say different, I mean different. Brian, you gleam the cube."

"Huh?"

"You're worse off than I thought. The cube, Brian. It's a place that you skate when you let go. Don't worry, it's an intangible. Nine tenths of the people don't grasp it, so I guess you're safe for now."

How many Skater Punks does it take to screw in a lightbulb? (first one to come up with a funny answer to that will evoke my laughter and/or respect)

I used to be a skater back in my poser wannabe fit in days, back in the days of middle school when I had no clue how to be myself. Those days sucked, but not as badly as my skating ability. Meh... I'm glad I grew out of that shit.

I have friends, guy friends who wear black nail polish/makeup and colour their hair. But that dosen't mean all are like that. Just try not to be too stereotypical. Please?

Back in 7th grade, I tried to start skating. I sucked at it, and showed NO potential for getting any better. So I quit.

Sometimes it's better not to lie to yourself. All the practice in the world wont help some people at certain things. And skating was one for me.

Heyyy, remember the ol' skool coke bottle boards?

I think some of those statements are VERY stereotypical - I remember seeing some kids messing around a few weeks ago on boards and they were dressed like any average 16-17 year old teenager. Just because you're a skater doesn't mean you're... well... a punk.

What REALLY pisses me about about skaters is how they *ALL* (well, the ones I've seen) try to be the next Tony Hawk. I've seen a few spectacular wipeouts and have NEVER - at high school, college or on the streets - seen someone do a 360 without crashing.

Get me a good old skin head board and I'm happy. I hate the double kick boards that kids ride to day.

Ah! When I was 12 I got a skateboard. It was $40 and has a picture of the Tazmanian Devil on it. I thought hey, I can ride a scooter, how much harder can this be.
Dur.
I was such a dork on it, absolutely horrible. Then I like was riding on someone's driving lot and like, did some fast splits and fell over and hit my knees real hard. I cried so much, it was terrible. Ugh, I had to go to camp the week after and it was so hard to hike and stuff. I have not gone on it since.
Since I failed my dad he's trying to get my brother started. He got a mini skateboard. If my brother has any of my mom's genes he will never succeed in anything athletic. THE LEGACY MUST CONTINUE!

Uh...Colleen, some people want to be the best in what they do. And a 360 isn't even close of Tony Hawk btw.

Colleen, you don't hang around with too many actual street punks do you?

They use the skateboard as a form of transportation, not a little trick shit ride. To them, it is a status symbol. Like the scooter to the mods.

I can sit on a skateboard and wheel myself about with my hands, that doesn't count though, does it?

Eh, I am not a skater. I am a "surfie" (note: surfIE not surfER, my surfing is poor, I do surf lifesaving not boardriding).

I also like electric scooters. They are fun to whiz about the city on.
