damn square enix......chrono trigger was done getting sold many years ago, why the hell do they have to mess with people just trying to recreate their favorite games.....

Because they hold the rights to said product and said franchise?

Heck, they could release Chrono Trigger for the GBA if they wanted to. *shrug* Just because a game's "old" doesn't mean it's not profitable.

I'm guessing that was the goal but I'm not 100% sure. I remember reading snippets about the game but no idea about selling.

Given how there was a cease-and-desist though... My gut says yes.

Sorry Colleen, but they weren't selling it. It was just like Fan Art. Exactly like.

Japan doesn't have any intellectual property rights, so it would be Squarenix of America/Europe that shut it down. They would have to launch a similarity lawsuit, so, if it were done on a Japanese or Chinese server...Square coulda bit a big ol' pill full of shit and I would've laughed.

OK, then that strikes me as really strange because why would they target that one when there's tons of other fan-made stuff out there?

Unless they were under the impression it was to be sold.

Or that it was infringing on direct copyright. Such as Square had copyrighted under the radar concepts that they were using in the game, etc.

That's the most depressing thing I've heard all year. You may as well have told me that Santa just fucking DIED.

Could the fans of this project some how convince square-enix to take this project up and finish it (or have those guys finish it). Or, could they perhaps work out some kind of deal like Retro Studios did to make Metroid Prime? Dammit, man, I want to help do somethign to ensure this project sees the bloody light of day.

If they weren't selling it, i odn't think that Square can close it.
Why Square never messed with Remixes of ocremix? And Nintendo with a large number of romhacks out there?
The "Cease and Desist" letter looks like more with a "We don't wanna to finish it" excuse.
But that's just me.
Oh, yeah, i remember they saying something about releasing it for Gamecube.

That would pretty much equal a cease-and-desist, me thinks. Freeware would have been another thing.

Shame though... especially considering the screenies.

They werent going to sell it. They were just to show it to people and companies so they could get a job someplace.

Oh and to Knuck: They were going to have the GC and Xbox versions for showing to companies only. They werent going to be brought to the public.

I read the livejournal, and talk with occassionaly, one of the guys on the team.

They weren't going to sell it.
This is stupid, because theres tons of other Fan-Projects out there. Hell, look at Byond. I dont understand why this project gets killed, but tons of others dont.

My guess is that it was just too good. The artwork was down right amazing.
this COULD be a clue taht Square is working on a similiar project. I dunno tho.

They were going to make GameCube and Xbox versions.. more like Homebrew Hacks. But they were only going to use it in the form of portfolios. they werent going to release it to the homebrew community.

I dunno tho. Im just sad that it got cancelled. the Art alone was breathtaking.
It was such a professional project. At least they still have what htey got done and can show that in their port folio.

Did anyone Download the Music Samples? They were like WOAH.
