Like, you'd just rather not get up and go to do something.

I'll take right now for example: It's 4:50 AM, I'm due up at 7 AM to be at ART 110 at 9 AM. I've got a good two hours of sleep under my belt, my hair's a matted mess, and the majority of the interruption of that sleep has been spent yelling at my sister to close her door to her room and go to sleep with my mother recieving the excess brunt (in case you didn't know, the sleeping is on the living room couch. Two bedroom apartment; I got the short stick).

I'm in a position right now where I'm just basically going to say 'fuck it' and not go in tomorrow even though eventually this is going to fuck me over in the long run and probably nail me in my grade and whatnot, and more than likely this is going to throw me behind because it's a week long class, all over the fact that I just don't want to go in because I'm not going to be fit to be in class, much less drive to said class. Only to please how I feel now and get that added sleep.

Not asking for advice for or against that, because by the time most people read this, it'll be too late anyways; I'll either be there or not. What I'm wonder is how often do you guys think similarly. Like you'd rather just say 'screw it' and do something else for the day and call in sick or something. I'm not one to say I have nerves of steel and say things don't eventually get to me, but I'm not lazy either, I try to do as much as I can for as long as I'm able, it's just sometimes I'm not in the best position or mental state to do it.

I dunno, maybe you have a remedy for it that I'm not aware of. I'm just rather curious, since I'm not one to post a thread about anything remotely close to my problems, at least in this forum; it's more of a wonder than anything, I guess.

I'm in the same boat. Though classes haven't started for me yet, I'm sure my sleeping problems will continue when they do.

It depends on how much I really need the class/grade, really.
Given that I'm somewhat anxiously waiting for my aproval so I can finally start school, I'd probably go even if my intestines where running out of my ears.
In former times, I don't think I ever skipped as many classes as I did during my short time at uni. But they didn't have forced attendance, so that might be it too <<;
I's a bit of a toss up, really. What's the point in doing anything when you're too tired to think coherrently?
But on the other hand, what's the price you'll eventually pay? -.-;

Mainly I would say because you get a piece of paper saying your qualified to do it. I feel like this alot, somedays I just dont want to do anything and I feel like such crap. I try to force myself up but then I see that im still in high school and have yet to see the use of everything I hear in a day.

If you wanna pass, do what it takes. I've gone to school with no sleep before (Fucked up and had to work all through the day to the night to the next day), it was a BITCH but I managed to get through it. I'd reccomend that you at least give it a try, but it appears I'm too late.

Anyways, if this ever happens again, drink a hundred cokes, eat a wedge of chocolate, do whatever the hell you need to do to get through class. See if you can tape your lessons, and don't let yoru pen stop moving or you'll fall asleep in an instant.

I feel that way often, and I've pulled that many times in my life. Not to an extreme scale as you guys with college, but mostly around homework or little things. I have a lazy nature and I hate myself for it. It's just a matter of convincing myself that it's not all fun and games and I should prioritize my life for more important things. I know highschool will determine a lot of my future, I know I need to pull my act together, and I know I need to get off my ass and do work, rather than cutting corners.

I know the feeling.

I've paced back and forth at night thinking about many different things, like school, people, money, and it has cost me sleep, especially when I want to see something on TV to get my mind off of these worries, but it keeps me thinking more than sleeping.

I could never call in sick. I'm too afraid to lose my job or have my GPA slip and I don't want to have to struggle if I fall back down so I try to stay afloat because I want some sense of certainty. Though I'm lazy in general, I want to work and have it all pay off so I can be financially sound.

My piece of advice...take a break. It sounds like you're at a breaking point and could use some good ole relaxation. While you should go to class and do the required b/s and whatnot, I mean you don't want to fail, but afterwards let yourself loose. If you have another one of ~those~ days, do what's required of you and nothing more. Go to class, try to pay attention, go home, and chill. Don't do homework unless it's absolutely necessary, don't be around people who stress you out, just take a nap or something. You'll wake up feeling much better and ready to tackle whatever's coming at you. So sorry to hear about your sucky day, I've been there a couple of times myself. Just always remember, you do deserve a break sometimes. Life is meant to be enjoyed, not strained through.

There have been some semesters of college where I would be determined to go to class no matter what. So I'd end up going on three hours of sleep per day for days on end. Now that is fine if you have nothing but physical work to do, but it doesn't mix well with school. Nowadays I just make myself crash at like 9pm or 10pm many nights. Of course that is not always feasible, b/c I'll be hanging out with people and I would never crash that early around them. But life is so much more bearable when you're rested. If you can't sleep, then do what it takes to get to sleep and on a normal schedule. NyQuil is good to get started, but not to be used as a sleep aid on a regular basis.

In any case, it's much easier to deal with being behind in your work when you're well rested. Staying up and worrying do you no good. I remember my freshman year I was so worried about a diff eqs test I had to take that I ended up staying up the whole night. I actually aced the test but that doesn't always happen. When I took my Calc three final I went with no sleep and actually fell asleep during the test. Woke up with an hour left and had to bust ass to get most of the problems done.

Changing your lifestyle can make a big difference in your attitude towards your responsibilities. Saying "fuck it" all the time is a route I've taken, and it's cost me in grades before. If I had only gotten more sleep and wasted less time on the internet I might have handled it differently. Self discipline is hard but it's really invaluable.

If I don't feel like going I don't go, if I don't feel like doing homework I don't do it... It bites back. I start doing my homework and going to class. I could have been a straight A student my whole life if my motivation to work wasn't a roller coaster ride... Constantly going from F to A every other trimester gives me something average, that other people seem to struggle for... And I still don't care...

Life is like a box of chocolates, and I just ate a 12 inch pizza. I'm going to bed. Good night.

Oh man, since I've joined the military, I've had COUNTLESS days of work without any prior sleep the night before.
But the worst part about it is that there is no calling in sick. (faking or non-faking)

It's not because I'm troubled, it's because I enjoy my free time. A lot. I should be in bed now actually. But fuck it! Three's Company is on.

About three to two hours before work, I just give up on sleep because I always doubt it will do me any good. Plus, there's the fear that I'll sleep through my alarm. And I don't really want to be in AWOL status and have the cops show up at my door.

Then, right before I go to work, I sincerely regret not getting those few precious hours of sleep.

Oh it's hell. Trying to make it through work on no sleep. I don't know why I do it. I can't conentrate on anything but "Oh fuck, this day is never going to end. Oh why can't it just be over?"

And when I get home, for some reason, I don't feel nearly as tired. I'm more refreshed actually. So I stay up late again. It's a vicious cycle.

Caffeine does wonders if you're not used to it. If you constantly drink it on a daily basis, you'll build up a tolerance and you'll literally have to drink a hundred cokes (like wite said) to feel any affect.

I remember last January when I went home for a month. I think I drank like...one or two sodas during the whole month. Then, when I got home, I resumed normal Mountain Dew consumption. I didn't sleep for three days. I didn't even FEEL like sleeping. I thought something was wrong with me.
Kiwibonga was the one who actually pinned down the problem.

And after my soda/dental wake-up call, I hardly drink soda at all these days. And the only time I do, really, is when I have one of those all nighters and I need some kind of boost to get me through the day. It works quite well, but it's not exactly the most healthy thing to do.

I think I'm starting to ramble on now. Maybe I need some sleep. =D

G'night.

I have quite low tolerance against Coke, just take one and I feel very hyper. And I usually take a coke twice a week. Strong enough for feeling the effects.

Well, I have skipped the nights on several occasions, thought never before a schoolday. Once when it was 3:00 AM in the night I did consider it...

And in my experince, I don't get that sleepy when I skip a night. However I try to listen on alot of music and I try not taking a small nap. A small nap easily turns into hours for me.

Being up 36 hours is fun.

...I maybe should consider coffea drinking, I usually do better on the days I got coke.

I don't know about y'all, but passing out at my computer keyboard for about 5-30 minutes does wonders. I feel incredibly refreshed. I remember one particular time when I was playing FF tactics for like 20 hours. I was so fucking tired and then I did that and passed out. Woke up and went on to play another 10 hours, like it was nothing.

Now if you get me into a bed, it's a far different story. I won't wake up for probably 5 hours at least.

Also a good way to totally fuck yourself over.

Remember that losing sleep each night is cumulative. If you miss two hours two nights in a row (That's 5 hours of sleep each night, and that's assuming you only need 7 hours of sleep, most people need 8 to be fully functional), you're now missing FOUR hours of sleep, and you're gonna have to sleep that much to make it up plus your usual for the day. Even if you seem fully functional, by the end of the day, if you're missing sleep from last night, you won't be, even if it's on a subconcious level.

I wasn't saying it was good for you. I was saying that in a pinch it can take the edge off by napping for a little bit somewhere that you're likely to wake up in a short time (because it's uncomfortable of course)

I generally need 9-9.5 hours of sleep to feel "good", I guess the best way is to put it. Even on 7-8 hours I yawn all the time and get sleepy throughout the day. At one point for about a week and a half I was on the weirdest sleep schedule ever:

I slept 7 hours at a time, and would be awake for 12 hours. (This was during finals week my freshman year.) Whenever I got sleepy I would just brush my teeth and go to bed. 7 hours later I'd wake up feeling refreshed. Seriously, this was the best system I've ever had. I felt so awesome. I could work for the full 12 hours and not feel one bit sleepy. The only problem is that 12 + 7 = 19. That means I was waking up 5 hours earlier each time. It was really cool, come to think of it, but impractical for the schedule most people are tied down to.

So I did the math (as always) and determined that the ideal sleep/awake ratio for a normal day. i.e:

a + s = 24
a / s = 12/7

Solving for s we get (12/7)*s + (7/7)*s = (19/7)*s = 24

=> s = 8.8421052631578947368421052631579 hours of sleep.

Which is close to 9 hours of sleep. Who said math isn't useful?

In any case, I'd also like to comment how odd it is that some military types seem to be able to get by on less sleep. I have a friend who's an officer in the Air Force, and he gets maybe 4 hours of sleep a night, yet always seem fully functional. Maybe they get super drugs in their food.

I know how it is not sleeping...I haven't slept in a week, except for when I slep in World Geograpy...Hahaha...Anyway I was told that if you really needed to get some sleep that you should put an icepack in the freezer and then put that on your eyes when you want to go to sleep...And if that doesn't work get some earplugs...
