If these things exist, lemme know before I waste a looot of time

Firstly, I'm new to the whole ROM editing thing, but i'm a pretty old hat at programming. So, if people could furnish me with useful links to references on file formats used or even a C library that does this already (it must be fully GPL compatible though, if it's not I'll just write one from scratch) i'd appreciate it

Im sorry I can't provide any links or anything, but is this for SMW? Your thinking about making an editor that will rivial LM? Good luck too, you! If you need some data you can go to the SMW board (right below this one) and there is a thread with some memory locations. Not sure if thats what you need, but its good for hacking.

Can you provide abit more information on what your trying to do here?

Sorry, that was pretty general of me Modelling stuff in Lisp gets boring after a while and I'm after a new project.

I'm not aware of any editors available for *nix, most of the discussion here involves Visual Basic, QBasic etc., which we're mostly free of over here *g*

The first task, of course, is to build a library that handles all the file i/o, image manipulation etc. Thankfully there's a lot of support for the latter already thanks to various other GPL'd libraries. But, I don't know of any libs for ROM hacking that already exist, and, well, I'm not sure how much fun it'd be to just use one of them anyway

After that's written, then a GUI that uses the lib(s) that were just created would be built. As I'm using Gnome, I'd write a Gtk2 gui But I'm not sure that's worth worrying about yet, and it _should_ be the simple bit anyway.

What game are you hacking? There's about 32767 games with 'Super Mario' in them.

SMW Doesn't matter so much now, found the memory location thread and other useful info in the SMW board
