Sort of an update before I can make the finishing touches on my hack. I'm not using any ExGFX or anything similar in this first attempt, it's strictly a level edit with what the game itself contains. What do you think?

An ice palace. Would the colors be better off lighter?

Sandcastle...not sure about the BG.

Two shots of different areas of a sky castle.

For a fire stage...which do you think looks better? Note that if I use the first, the ugly black dots in the background have been fixed, the shot is a little old.

Arggg, my eyes... Make it less lighten.

OK.

Nice. I especially like the re-coloration of the 2nd screen.

If I had the choice I'd go for the 2nd screen; the first one is too flashy and the 2nd one a bit dark.. IMO, The best would be a tan between those two.

Pic number...

1. Way to bright. Make the BG a dark background (0C I think). Also the poles in the BG are messed up.

2. Looks good

3. 1st ones good, Bg gray areas may want to be a purple colour. 2nd one is very cool! Looks like night time, I like that one.

4. Use the second shot. But one thing, keep the BG color in the second shot, but use the FG color from the first shot. Maby making it brown for the FG would look better.

I don't understand what you mean at the end there. Also, the FG is unchanged between the two...except that I fixed the tops of the stone blocks (wrong color originally).

1. Way too bright.
2. Great job, and the bg is nice.
3. First one has better contrast, but generally, I like the second one more.
4. On the first one the bg is overly bright, it looks too hot. Yet, the second one's bg is too dark. Go for something in between, as said.

Custom Palettes: I say yay. I almost always use custom palettes myself (but I do a lot of gfx editing too, and custom palettes are almost always essential in that case),... so I say use whatever you can to get the effect that you want).

Other than that, I think the screenshots are fine except the first two (the're too bright), and use the darker of the red screenshots (maybe brighten it a bit, but only a little)
