Am I the only one who thinks that Final Fantasy 5 is the best Final Fantasy ever made? I love that game yet a lot of other people dont like it...

I have mixed feelings towards this game. The music varies between great and grating. The characters are unbelievably bland. The job system was great, but the jobs were generally pretty unbalanced, along with their abilities - Mystic Knight with Two-swords or Twohand anyone?

Yes, it's one of my favorite games - I really like the job system, and the fights are at just the right level of challenge usually. But it, like all games, has its share of flaws.

Good for its time, but I didn't like it a whole bunch. Still I would prefer to play it then go through 8...

When I first played it, it was almost completely unknown outside Japan, and so it was like being on an undiscovered continent.

Looking back, it's still good gameplay-wise, but the plot could be better.

lol. Old games dont need plot. They just need to be fun and awesome. Look at things like Mario, Sonic, and other fun games. They have dumb plots, but the game is what counts.

Hmm... Mario and Sonic... ah, save for Super Mario RPG, those games aren't RPGs. People have ALWAYS expected RPGs to have at least tolerable stories.

And I still stick with the characters being too bland as one of the main problems.

The character development is the problem with that game. Everything else lives up to Final Fantasy standards, but the characters dont.

There is only little development on their side, but no where near enough.

It was good, but like already mentioned, characters were kind of crappy and the story was sort of lacking. Job system was great though, and it was a good challenge, unlike the recent Final Fantasy games. I remember making it up to the final boss and him owning me very badly

Well, it -was- the first FF game I ever played (SNES emu ZSNES .800c using badly translated English ROM Final Fantasy V to defeats Exdeath have your guns ready sword go boom). Can't say I was displeased...otherwise I doubt I would've continued on with the series. Impressed me at least, especially the job system (which wasn't original, see IIIj), I dunno...there were a lot of things that got me hooked into it. I never got word from someone else to try the FF series, and for the being a starter...it was a decent ride. Definitely not the best game in the series, in my opinion, but not that bad of one either.

Ditto.

It was cool when i found out about it and played the translated rom before anyone even knew about it. I'd tell people and they'd go "Huh?".

I even had a website dedicated to it. Got a ton of hits tho. after 2 years or so i had about 50K hits, which isnt bad for a game that so few people heard of at the time. There was even a petition on my site to port the game.
But once the PSX release came out, my site dried up and died.

Anyways, thanks t the wayback machine (www.archive.org) I can see my website again!

The hard thing is that the last part of Exdeath casts Meteo...

I was around lv 50 when I stopped playing it for a while. When I should start to play it again, some of my save files were gone...

I beat Exdeath on the SNES rom at level 41 (Lenna/Reina was L37). Cara/Krile was the last person left, and she only had 8 HP.. I love Flare.

I'm working on two files on the Playstation version now... One where I just play through normally - I'm up to Exdeath's Castle - and another one I just started where I'm only using jobs from the first two crystals...

Which kills my ultimate Seal Guardians strategy. Screw learning Aero3, just do a double GilToss. If you have enough money for it, each hit is 3900 to all of them - they have 7777 HP, so two hits is a kill. I really did this on my normal file...

First time around it was Mimics at Lv. 49-50 killing him off.

The second time around years later? Bare/Normals at 43.

Not always. The very first RPGs had plots that could be explained in less than 5 words. "Kill evil bad guy". "Find treasure." "Rescue princess."

You started at point A, and had to make your way to point B, where you fought the boss. And, unless the "plot" revolved around killing him, you found the treasure/princess after the battle.

(Take Wizardry, for instance. Not much plot there. You go to the dungeon, kill the evil guy, and recover the treasure.)
