Ft. Lauderdale would be the name of the main city near me, but I live in Tamarac, which is a bit more north and in Broward County.

Thanks for the lookout, it means a lot to me.

From what I can see here, the odds are poor of you guys getting a direct hit.

..I can't read that!

Either way, we're going to get hit by this...I'm just worried about where the direct hit will be.

It's now a CAT 3 storm, instead of a 4, but it's going to be in the warm waters before hitting land.

Like I said before....we should know more by tomrrow afternoon.

I was looking at column A for the closest region to you (guessing Miami) and the odds of it hitting in the next 24 hours (a direct hit) is 11%.

Oh..Miaimi isn't that close to me....

*looks again*

Column A, huh? West Palm Beach is closer to me than MIA is.

Actually....we're in the middle now that I think about it. 20 to 30 minutes in each direction...

So I shall say this again, "eeep".

...I'm Canadian. I don't know the EXACT placement of cities in Florida. I need to rely on things called maps for that.

13% then. But the odds are better than nothing.

I like to mess with Colleen.

Everyone is pretty much watching the high front/pressure, which has slowed down the storm. If it does (the front) something odd, it'll hit here. If it stays in course, it'll be more to the north.

At any rate, I should get some sleep....

It's not expensive to send SMS to other countries, AFAIK, my network charges the same, I text some friends in Ireland all the time, if someone further afeild wants to give me their cell/mobile number to test it out further afield then I shall.

That sounds bad Anya Hope you'll turn out alright.

They think that it could get stronger..

Just heard on the news that a very strong band is coming on shore, so in about 30 to an hour, we'll be getting some nasty weather for a bit.

And now we have Ivan to worry about later on...it's still off the coast of Africa, but...man, this has been one odd hurricane season...and they peak of it isn't for another week.

I guess you don't need to be told to keep watchful, even if it has slowed down

So if the Hurricanes are getting stronger, and it's getting later on the season, do you think they'll grow into strong category 4s or even 5s?

Dunno about all hurricanes... After all, Florida might get hit with a few each year but the odds of all of them being 3+ is pretty astronomical. Usually there's some Category 1-2 hurricanes, which can still damage areas but aren't super-destructive.

It's down to a CAT 2, gusts around 110 mph. My bet is it weakens a bit more before it hits...even though there's a slight chance it might not...the pressure inside it is slowly on the rise, which most storms usually do once they start coming close to land and start losing ground on being overly powerful, but it's safe to assume this one's going to leave some damage in it's wake in a good day or so.

And as said, Ivan is another storm to deal with (excerpt for all they're saying):

To make matters worse, a new tropical storm has formed in the eastern Atlantic. Tropical Storm Ivan is located around 1700 miles east of the Lesser Antilles. Maximum sustained winds are presently at 50 mph. The forecast calls for the storm to steadily strengthen and move briskly in a generally westward direction, becoming a strong hurricane in the next 5 to 7 days and potentially having an impact on the Lesser Antillies by late Tuesday and may even threaten Puerto Rico by Wednesday. Residents living in the Lesser Antillies and Puerto Rico need to monitor this fast moving storm closely.

Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific, now 85-mph Hurricane Howard appears to be beginning the long weakening process about 420 miles west-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Howard is expected to move right along the Mexican coast near the Baja of California with a threat of high surf and locally heavy rain. It will enhance the rainfall across Mexico to southern Arizona and New Mexico over the next day or so. It will bring an increased wave and swell threat for the entire coast of the Baja of California to as far north as San Diego.

In the western Pacific, Typhoon Songda is sweeping WNW from the northern Mariana Islands and could affect Taiwan in the next 2 to 3 days.

Hope my cousin's doing okay.

Hurricanes, huh. I wouldn't know anything about them I live in Kansas. We do have some pretty bad tornadoes though. The closest thing to a hurricane I've ever seen up close was a flood about 6 years ago. It was 6 or 7 feet all over my street. It's a good thing we had a boat. No I'm serious in order to get to our house my mom had to wade there and bring our boat back. We then took damage pictures.
