Actually they will shop.....to get supplies, then get the hell out of dodge. Not that I blame them. You can stick around, maybe watch your house collapse/get flooded out/roof ripped off/completely destroyed, or you can leave and the same thing'll happen. Although, there's only two real dangers. Living on the coast, near a beach (storm surge) and the tornadoes. If this lands as a 5, then it'll be a ride too bumpy to tolerate. I'll say this now Anya, good luck, if you chose to ride it out.

Earthquakes can be worse that hurricanes...

Actually....during the last hurriacne, even though we did not get a direct hit, many were at the mall, not to buy supplies. Trust me, you can't buy supplies there. Of course, that hurricane was in the Gulf of Mexico, which is right behind us. This one is looking at us right in the eye.

I would head over to the west coust of Florida to stay with my dad, but my car cannot make that trip, since it's in really bad shape. If we do recieve a hurricane warning, that means we can close up things at work, and I'll prob head over to Chris' parents house, since isn't too far from where I live now, which is in an apartment.

If this one does hit us, it'll be the first time in almost a century that we're hit by two highly powerful hurricanes, within a week.

The last time two major hurricanes hit Florida in rapid succession was 1950, the hurricane center said. Hurricane Easy hit Tampa around Sept. 4 of that year and Hurricane King hit Miami six weeks later, on Oct. 17. It's been less than three weeks since Charley struck Aug. 13.

Uh, there IS a basement or a shelter, right? If not...

I saw a program on TV about Hurricanes a while ago and the windows on a house got smashed by the hurricane and small glass pieces were flying around in a room...

Basements? If we had basements in Florida, they would be under water. Really. We are very close to sea level.

We do have shelters, like in schools and buildings like that, but from what I've heard so far, they are not open yet.

I'm going to work today, so at our manager metting, I'm going to bring up this hurricane and what we are doing. Because from the look of it, I think we'll be closed this weekend.

I'm off tomorrow, so I'm going to pick up a few extra things. We already have a flashlight, canned foods, and water...I just want to get a backback, so I can pack and keep with me my most prized items; like photo albums, memory cards for the PsX and Ps2 and my writings.

And I am reminded how much I love Washington.

Actually, the fact that a huge earthquake is expected around here is sort of, well, something you keep on the back of your mind. It's nothing like California though.

*Hugs a nearby tree*

Good luck, hope you guys in Florida come out unscathed.

We're in a hurricane watch right now.....*sighs* I have a bad feeling about this one.

I'll try to keep things updated as much as I can, here and at my journal.

It should be here within the next 24 hours.

I had to go out this morning to take care of a few things, and the roads, banks, stores, gas stations; are all packed!!

And I have too many photo albums that I wanna take with me.

Why didn't you high-tail it out of there? I looked but I couldn't find a reason

Have you got a place that's secure and where you can "batton down the hatches"?

No real place to go. Dad's on the west cost of Florida and they just got a hurricane warning as well. And my car cannot make a two hour trip, and with the traffic and the mess, it would be longer. I should be find in Chris' parents' house, which we will go to tomrrow, along with the cats. Can't bring animals with you to shelters, and I can't leave them here.

And now its slowed down, which is bad, because this will give it the chance to get stronger.

Actually, I always wanted to be in a area where a big storm happens... but at the same time it worries me.

Once I got very worried while being at vacation, when the last hurricane did hit Florida...

...why do people prepare some things in the last day?

Don't know...maybe you should ask them.

Getting some outter bands right now, nothing major until tomrrow, though. Gonna sleep here tonight and then take apart the computers and the likes before we leave in the afternoon.

Good luck. I doubt there are many people on this board or in the world who can say they're braving a hurricane Give us an update tomorrow, and come see us when the worst is over

Kirbynite is up in Orlando (about three to fours away from me) and I talked to him a little bit today.

I'll try to post something here or in my journal tomrrow, but once it starts to get bad, the computers will be taken apart.

Chris' father has a computer and Trillian, so I might be able to contact someone that way.

Of course, the only IM name I can remember from the top of my head is Colleen's.

If anything, I should be MIA for two days, hopefully no longer, unless the power is out...or worse.

If you can tell us where abouts you'll be, I can keep an eye on the weather and the map Just a town that will be on any atlas would be great
