okay, for 1700USD I was going to put together a comp.
Now, this setup can be really worked on because I did it quick, but basically what you can get for that cash is;

chassi, silver, 300w supply
motherboard, Abit nforce2 ultra 400, built-in audio
cpu, Amd athlon 2700+, Thoroughbed.
cpufan, thermaltake up to xp3400
memory, kingston 512ddram, pc3200 ddr400
hd, maxtor diamond 160gb 7200rpm 8mb cache
dvd-burner, dual layer dvd burner 16x
gfxcard, radeon 9800xt 256mb
and to match the Hip-E comp I added in a philips 17" flat screen for like 520USD.
keyboard, microsoft wireless optical desktop 2.0
mousemat
and some cheap creative speakers.

Throw in another 100 and you don't even have to put it together yourself. There might be some mismatch and ofcourse, cheaper articles out there but this is the 5minute idea.
And get rid of the screen and you'll have something really cheap.
