Ah, well that isn't licenced for Australia, so we don't have it here, but the name is spelt "Primatene" and the generic name is "Epinephrine". Epinephrine is a synthetic adrenaline. The drug works for asthma similar to Ventolin (salbutamol). It activates a sub-group of adrenaline receptors found in the bronchial airways. When activated by the drug, these receptors relax dilating the airways and allowing breathing to become easier. It also increases blood pressure and heart rate. Combined with caffeine (which also increases and heart rate) it can create an addictive increase in blood pressure. Because it increases heart rate and such, it should not be taken if you have a heart condition or any other condition adversely affected by increased blood pressure and heart rate. Do not use Epinephrine if you are on, or have taken within the last two weeks, any MAO drugs (antidepressants). |
