What do I mean? Exactly that, and this is why. A guy from Canada just moved here to good old Long Island, and surprise, he's in my school. That's pretty cool. So, during lunch, me and a few others are talking with him, making little jokes like 'Like having books half off?' (He got it :D Canadians are cool like that), when some preps come over and start cracking at him, like "HAY EH DO YOU FEEL WARMER EH. EH EH EH EH". We just stared, and they walked away like jackasses. Very nice

Well, not ALL preps are like that, but yes, I would say the majority think they are superior in every way to everyone, so they can ridicule others for no good reason.

Although it's generalizing, preps are losers.

They just get in gangs of like 15, and swarm and foul up EVERYTHING.

News Flash: It's not preps. It's people in general.

You can divide people into three groups: Cool people, assholes, and everyone else. I've met people from all high school classes who are assholes. It just can't be helped.

Bottom line: Why do you care about what they think? They are assholes, and there is nothing you can do about. Believe me, I've tried.

Can anyone define "prep"? I've seen so many stereotypes of them that I'm not sure which you're referring to.

Jesus. This thread wants me to tear my eyeballs out.

By the way, you do know guys tend to joke around like that, right?

I hate preps...I hate all those popular kids at school, with their $90 shirts and shaved heads (if male) or short bleach-blond hair (if female), and on about five sports teams. My school is full of them.

Most people would illogically group up on individuals. It's a defense mechanism not based on moral standards, but on the social group's integrity. Classifying human beings into "either/or" pigeonholes only contribute to the problem by denying the fact that a healthy human being contains a certain amount of all attributes. No definive or catagorical denotation will serve justly, and can only be used justifiably.

Lots of people do it. People here do it. Nobody should place the label outside of themselves. The best way to confront it within yourself is to critically critique yourself.

Preps are people who fit a (usually suburban) description of one who can afford, and therefore owns, a large wardrobe selection, listens to popular music, and form cliques. The former components of the description only attribute to attacking outsiders by finding like grounds within each other to form a social group.

A very similar social group are the Freaks, who also buy clothes of a certain pop culture nature, listen to music popular within the same pop culture, and form cliques. Many freaks can pay up to $50 for a pair of jeans at hot topic.

The difference on what many human beings find wrong is often trivial, and dependent on what they have associated themselves with.

For the love of god, stop saying this shit.

It's one of the most stereotypical and shallow things I've ever heard. They do it to look good? They have some sort of psychological disorder? What the fuck? I get the feeling that whoever made this up was some kid who was picked on trying to come up with something to blame so he can pretend he has a one-up on "the preps". It's* not true at all. Stop saying it.

* By "It", I mean the stereotype in all (or even most) cases. I understand that there probably are people out there who do it for social acceptance. Still, a few people who have said motive does not signify a trend in the majority.

My opinion is that you are a dog-human made out of ham and cheese subs.

In practical terms, could you classify my opinion in any way "valid," or even "based on common sense, observations, and objective use of logic"?

In practical terms, can you perhaps not insult everyone you try to make see your way? All you do is make people defensive. Do you want to argue with someone or fight with someone? For someone who claims they're right about this, you're going about it the wrong way.

I just got pissed at Koga cuddy-holing people into specific groups and assigning them specific psychological disorders. It's more than stupid, it's insulting and base to people in general.

I understand the thread is made for opinions. I am expressing one.

haha I wasnt "I understand the thread is made for opinions. I am expressing one." I think this thread just went a bit out of course of the main topic. If You have issue maybe you should Pm me and we can continue this debate else where I do not think the author wishes to really hear about a debate over nothing. He just wants to know about what we think about an issue which occured at his high school.

I expressed an opinion that a lot of people who do stuff like that do it just to screw around and have fun, and not for social acceptance. I also expressed an opinion that the Canadian should have played along instead of just sorta sitting there. That is entirely relevant.

And I still do say that a lot of people are being ignorant by cubbyholing "preps" into categories with specific psychological disorders. And I still do say that the Canadian guy should have taken it much more lightly.

Well, people react to things like this differently. I'm not sure that he should have reacted that way, or if he shouldn't have. Actually, he didn't react at all, but that's besides the point. And although I said earlier that most preps are like that, I was doing it based on my own experiences. Bad decision on my part. I'm sure some people do it for social acceptance, and some people do it for the hell of it. From the sounds of it, either these guys like being jackasses, or that is their idea of fun. I don't agree with what they did. But to decide how the canadian should have taken it is kind of going out of line. If someone insulted me based on how I spoke, or the stereotype of how Mexicans spoke, I certainly wouldn't take it lightly. He probably wasn't too fond of it. But some people I'm sure could take that lightly. But everyone is different in that way. So you can't say there is a single right and wrong way to react to a stereotypical slur (like the one's we've been making towards "preps").
